Do you guys seriously think this is some kind of rare variant?

This is obviously an old sun dried Lion-O torso with fresh legs, head and arms attached. Worth about 75 cents at a garage sale?

The face resembles to Rainbow’s version with the characteristic “bulging out the socket” kind of look at Lion-o’s eyes. The upper body reminds of Rainbow’s logo 2 Lion-o which is a bit lighted up, this one though appears to be greenish. Probably is a blend of both.
Hey, What year does it say below the feet?

Thanks for your kind words Grizzlor, i was only showing out of curiosity as a question. His belt and boots are still vibrant blue, no need to make a mockery of it

I don’t think it’s a sun dried torso, then it would have been his arms and head too

i agree on that. Recently saw one for sale in very nice condition. He was also described as a torso variant.

Don’t take offense LiarDice, I am just commenting on a toy after all. But in all seriousness I think somebody has sold you a zombie toy made up of parts from two toys.

If I am proved wrong I’d be very intrigued by this piece and it would be cool if you shared more info with us, including pics of the LJN stamp and his joints etc.

As it stands I am certain this is not a manufacturer variant.

Im sure probably is a zombie toy or maybe the factory mixed the paints wrong. All joints are super tight and there seems to be no excess foreign glue. Who knows lets just say it was more than 74 cents but i like him.

My guess would be it is like a lot of the series 3 figures, after 20+ years they are showing blemishes that they did not show when new.

Maybe this Lion-O had 2 types of blue paint used and one faded and the other didn’t. Or someone came along and touched up the belt and boots after it started to fade…

The picture below is from my Loose Rainbow Lion-o 22-back, and has exactly the same LJN stamp at his feet. I think LiarDice’s fig belongs to Series 3, i don’t know why it has the green torso, probably a factory error.
It looks cool though!!

Yeah the plastic on these figures can do weird things over time, even when kept out of sun light.

This figure features clearly the unique trait of the “lighted-up” head and face sculpture similar to the LJN, American Lion-o. These characteristics appeared only to the UK, Rainbow Logo 2 Lion-o version(22-back). The green torso and gloves though is an exception that i’ve never seen before!!

Your Mumm-Ra at left is the ideal match for LiarDice’s Lion-o!!:liono:roll::mummra:

I think Lordore is on the right track… I remember the Lion-O where not just his eyes but his whole head lighted up! lol :rolleyes: That figure was found on a Childbro/Otto Simon card (which I believe were released toward the final year of the line..?)

However LiarDice’s Lion-O’s head doesn’t match the Lion-O with light up head…(one in link MADBUBBLER posted) I partly agree with Lordore, as I believe the figure could have been from a Toy Options addressed card (just like Childbro, released at the end of the line in the early 90’s) I know it wasn’t a Rainbow Toys logo 2 card as I had both Mumm-Ra and Lion-O on that card for christmas 1992 and both were great looking figures!

I honestly believe they were throwing what factory stock was left (albeit weird colours and slight variations) on to cards. One example of this I have carded is my Toy Options Tygra. For some reason he has a black handled Bolo Whip with short string/rope Maybe they were running low on the blue string and had no brown whip handles left?

The Rainbow Toys (2nd logo release) I must have got a Toy Options carded Lion-O in 1992!

Blackie, that’s the one i was talknig about:thumbsup:, aside from the ‘lighted-up’ head trait, this Lion-o features another unique element. The eyes design doesn’t appear the characteristic “bulging out the sockets kind of look” which is a trademark to all the Rainbow Lion-o releases. The 2nd logo UK Lion-o has a face sculpture similar to the American LJN Lion-Os, which in my peception, is much better.

I am not 100% sure but i think the rare 8-BACK, UK Rainbow Lion-o also remebled to the American versions
