The lizards came in giant mechs and blew it all up with missiles. They hated the cats for taking all the good land and resources and opressing them. Maybe you’re referring to the planet the cats come from in the NS, but you lost me at that phrase.

No, you weren’t. You were making up things to complain about without thinking. They never said the home planet was destroyed in the NS either. They never even mentioned it. Perhaps they would have explored it in a second season, to unravel the mysteries of their origins. But that’s a pretty big detail for you to overlook.

I like how everyone defending the NS keeps mention how the writers ‘would’ and ‘could’ have done things. When they were only given 1 season they should have been trying it make it great in the first season instead of thinking of a second season.
People tend to get praise for what they accomplish, not what they could have.
I thought what they did in the first season was great, so excuse me if I happen to look forward to what a second season might hold.
I am not argueeing I liked aspects of it but there was a VAST amount they could have done to make it better…but its a double edged sword…no matter how good they made the tv show, or even what they would do in a second, as long as its awful toyline is not selling the chances of a second season are slight. Even if they had done more to please OS fans like myself it still would have been canceled because chances are the toys bandai would still have made for it would have been crap and not sold aswell.
isn’t that what happened to the He-man & MOTU series back in the 2002? i remember that series staying true to the source material but got canned during like the second season or so.
Yes thats correct, but much like NS Thundercats there was issues with the toyline. Personally I didn’t like the MOTU 200X toys as they were odd looking with awful proportions, but the biggest problem was kids didn’t buy them because they didn’t want multiple versions of just He-Man and Skeletor. But to Mattel the toys were not selling so they canceled the cartoon, end of. Pretty much the same as what has happened to Thundercats.
Not exactly. Mattel over-produced the He-Man and Skeletor variants in the third assortment making the case ratios 2:1 He-Man and Skeletor variants to secondary characters. Even though consumers purchased each of the figures in the assortment, the over-production of He-Man and Skeletor variants left retailers with figures they could not sell, so they did not order new product. Mattel decided there was no sense in continuing to produce an animated series to promote a product line that it could not move, so it cancelled the show at the end of season two. The difference between Masters of the Universe and ThunderCats is that the former was quite popular and sold quite well until Mattel over-saturated the market whereas the latter never quite caught on.
They wrote the story as a two season story. They were told when they were making it that they would have two seasons to tell the story, so that’s what they planned for.

They still should have made the first season more exciting to gain a bigger audience, but regarless of how good the first season was or could have been the fact is the toys Bandai made were still crap hence the cancelation.
I remember when the prototypes were shown at toyfair and everyone here was saying ‘wow, they look great, im collecting’, now as soon as the line gets cancelled its ‘they were crap’. LOL.
I liked the toys, although i didnt see it advertised much apart from cn occasionaly so they were never going to reach the masses.
I loved the 8" classics and still do. As for the stuff for the NS, I think everyone was just so excited to get new Thundercats toys played a big part.
Looking good at Toyfair is one thing, being a good toy in hand is another. When we got them in hand we saw the black uncloured joints, the super soft weapons, poor paint etc. In the case of the Thundertank it looked great on display but when we got it in had it fells apart very easily and wasn’t fun to play with.

When I asked this question days ago, I never though that it would be this dangerous or that it would go to the extent that it has gone. I wanted there to be an interesting discussion about how the new series included the values instilled by the original series. Unfortunately, it looks like this thread got out of hand. It is very sad that Blackiecats has to even mention permanently banning people.

The back biting going on could have happened in any thread, from how I’ve been reading it Everyone isn’t going to agree on everything all the time, which is the whole point of a discussion. The issue is about not being respectful to a fellow fan

Sounds about right. It’s the passion on both sides of the liking the remake or not fence. The way I figure it, there’s some people who didn’t want to like it going in, and some who are blind to the fact that the original did have faults.
