I would have liked to have gotten all the main characters but I don’t want starting to collect this line if it’s going to take over three years to get the core line up. I am interested in other cartoons like Transformers and TMNT so I’d be more interested in spending money on merchandise from them.
The the last series I was into that I started buying lots of figures for was Transformers Animated. I never got into any of the shows after that. Of course back then I had a more steady flow of cash so I could afford to buy figures. I am poorer than dirt now. 
Animated was great and the last great series of toys they made. All the toys after that too the more recent stuff is hollow junk. Not even fun to transform.
I had a huge collection of around 300 transformers but sold them due to lack of space. I have about 6 now lol. I really wish I had kept some of them. Maybe one day I will buy back my favourites.
well you can always get 'em on ebay.
Lol we totally got off topic here so let’s bring the subject back to that. Let’s talk about the warrior maidens. They need a bit more love.

Yes I liked Willa and Nyda.
How come the ebrserkes got toys but not willa and her sister? IMO they were far more interesting and visually appealing than those guys.

Yes, I too would have loved to have toys of Willa and Nayda. 
There was always a serious dearth of female figures in the LJN toyline. Apart from Cheetara, Wilykit and Pumyra, everybody else is male. The show had many females that could have been made into figures, just to balance the genders, like Willa, Nayda, Mandora, Jagara, Ta-She, Luna, Chilla, Queen Tartara, and of course Mumm-Rana! 
I’m guessing (and this is purely speculation) that perhaps the main market was boys and LJN might have feared that many female characters’ figures might not sell as much. Also as the line progressed, LJN were looking for new and cool Battle-Matic Actions to put into the figures (not just the arm movement). That is why we got the re-designed Berserkers (without any explanation as to how they came back from the dead), Driller, Stinger, Tongue-a-saurus, and the Mad Bubbler, which unfortunately was never produced.

Sadly 80s toylines all suffered from lack of female characters.
LJN’s Thundercats and Dungeons & Dragons lines fared quite well in getting female characters compared to a lot of other cartoons that had prominent females.
Thundercats got Cheetara, Wilykit (pvc), Wilykit (companion), Pumyra, Berbil Bell, and technically Stinger.
Gobots and G.I. Joe also made quite a lot of female characters.
It is really annoying when they don’t make female characters. I would have loved toys of Arcee (Transformers), JB (Bravestarr), Verulena and Galadria (Visionaries), Niko (Galaxy Rangers) etc.
I will give TMNT credit as they made a few female figures also. They even made Irma along with the rest of Channel 6 guys!

True! Just curious, how many female toys were made for the She-Ra toyline?
She-Ra was a definite exception.
I think there was about 20 not counting the figures packaged with mounts.

These were exactly my thoughts as I was reading through. Although as a huge Thundercats fan I would have been geeked to see them I don’t see many 5 - 10 year olds picking them out in the store. We may have to hope Mattel is listening.

They NEVER made figures for MANDORA AND CHILLA?! but but but… they would have made AWESOME toys! But then again the mumm-ra figure was kinda of more a statue than a real figure since his limbs didn’t move (I mean his mummy form not the ever living one).
But that’s the thing with these toylines. They have girl characters in the shows but don’t give 'em toys even if they are awesome. Some of them have toys now but they are usually Con exclusives. Mandora SHOULD have gotten a toy. I mean her design and gadgets and stuff just SCREAMED “TOY ME!”.

Yep, it’s even more annoying when they show the prototypes of the female characters and they are awesome. Katara (Avatar, JB (Bravestarr), Jennifer/Talyn (Skeleton Warriors) and Jenny (Bucky O’Hare).
The problem with Thundercats was giving all the givers (with the exception of the companions) a gimmick/battle-matic action. The arm raising action would really work for Chilla or Mandora and when they can’t give them the standard arm action I suppose they didn’t know what type of gimmick to give them.

I agree. A single Willa figure probably wouldn’t have had the kids screaming for it, kinda like the Tuska Warrior figure. But if they had released Mandora packaged together with the Electro-charger, I have no doubt that that would sell like hot cakes! 
It did have moving arms and head. Only its feet were non-movable. But even then it did feel like a statue.
Wow! That’s a lot! But then again, the show was made specifically for girls so it makes sense that it would have many female characters toys.

Compared to some vintage Transformers and some other action figures of the time Mummy Mumm-Ra wasn’t to bad in terms of articulation. I remember once picking a Transformer that looked cool on the package art instead of getting another Lion-O to replace my broken one. Needless to say said Transformers (Scorch) was an unarticulated brick. The only articulation he had was his elbows…and they moved more because of transformation purpose than articulation. So Mummy Mumm-Ra had double his articulation. To add further insult when I went back to get Lion-O he was gone. :cry

Hah! :biggrin I just didn’t think that kids went crazy after him. After all, he is a tertiary character. And he has the most “attention” pose ever! LOL! :laugh Over the years I have seen many MOC Tuska Warriors pop up on Ebay and they are the cheapest of all the TCats MOC. So I just felt that he really never was v ery much in demand. I still wonder why LJN didn’t make Turmagar instead?

I know what you mean, I just always liked the figure. It’s interesting that they the trooper and not Turmagar. Maybe the figure was designed before the cartoon character.

Id mandora was an exclusive figure these days collectors would be rushing for her. If I had the cash and she was a toy I’d buy her. Imagine if that Japanese company that makes those super posable action figures that come with different faces made thundercats figurines. They would be EPIC! As for me I really want a show accurate Mumm-Ra figure(either form would be great) made by that company. I would die.

Believe it or not they are made by Bandai! Bandai Japan. Those S.H. Figuarts line of figures look amazing. I have never owned any but seen plenty as some friends collect them. The amount of detail, cartoon accuracy, articulation, amount of accessories they come with are great. The stuff Mattel are doing with MOTUC etc couldn’t even compete with them in terms of quality.
