I take it I’m wrong, then. If it is a UK-only thing, could it be the splicing in of a shot of Panthro to cover up his nunchuck-wielding badassery?
Correct. They changed it to something different from each episode - specifically, a shot from the episode in question. I only realised yesterday why the change was made and that it would have been specifically over here, so wasn’t expecting anyone in the US to get this. I guess I’m wrong!
Your turn!
Well done, “Zax”!
That was a tough question. I do have the UK VHS tapes but my cassette player isn’t working so couldn’t check.
So “LiamABC”, just out of curiousity, were the TMNT cartoons subject to any such changes in the UK? To edit out Michaelangelo’s nunchuks?
This is a trivia thread. Never underestimate the amount of unimportant factoids we all carry around in our heads!
Let’s continue with another question about the intro:
During the intro, we hear Mumm-Ra before we see him. When is it that we hear him?
When all the Thundercats assemble in front of Cats Lair and the huge spirit of Jaga appears (I think it is just before the 1 minute mark), we can hear Mumm-ra’s faint cackling laugh. After that we see Castle Plun-darr, the mutants and then Mumm-ra makes an appearance.
That was fast! You’re up, Wilycub.
Thank you “Zax”. Actually it was just a coincidence that I happened to check the thread when you posted the new question so was able to sneak in an answer before anyone else.
Ok here’s my question:
The Thundercats face many villains in the series. Apart from Mumm-ra, the Mutants and the Lunataks:
-
Name any 3 villains who were specifically hired by Mumm-ra to destroy/capture the Thundercats.
-
Name any 3 villains whom the Thundercats themselves were responsible for freeing.
-
Name any 3 villains who wanted to capture/destroy the Thundercats for their own reasons and were in no way affiliated with Mumm-ra, the Mutants or the Lunataks in that particular episode (they may have later joined forces with them but not in that episode)
Please also name the episodes for each villain because in different episodes some of the villains had different motives. Good luck!
Wow! This is a long one. Let me think…
-
Demolisher (“Demolisher”), Driller (“Spittingt Image”, “Return of the Driller”), Malcar (“Malcar”), Amortus (“Touch of Amortus”) and I think of Thache (Doom Gaze"), Cptn Shiner or Hammerhand, if they count.
-
Mongor (“Mongor”), Charr-Nin (“The Evil Harp of Charr-Nin”), Frogman (“Frogman”), and all the three bad guys Lion-O freed in “Mandora the Evil Chaser” (but can’t remember their names).
-
Safari Joe (“Safari Joe”), Mongor (“Mongor”) and Charr-Nin (“The Evil Harp of Charr-Nin”). You can count here Spidera (“Queen of Eight Legs”), the Crystal Queen (“Crystal Queen”), the Bersakers.
Well looks like no one else wants to contribute an answer so I guess it’s Hobson’s choice. You win “Tygra-Rules” even though you got a few wrong. ![]()
Your turn :tygra: .
I did? Can you point out which ones and correct them? Just to increase my knowledge ![]()
Ok, here’s mine:
“Now you can see me, now you don’t.” But, uh-oh, somethings’s wrong, becuase he/she/it can see me.
What characters (besides Red-Eye), under any circumstances, have been able to see Tygra when invisible, in which episodes, and how/why?
I’ll give you a hint: neither Mongor nor Charr-Nin were able to see him, they forced him tu turn visible again (at leats that’s what I got from thise eps).

I can think of two:
-
In “Fireballs of Plun-darr”, The Mutants were able to see him swimming in the moat even though he was invisible because the water of the moat was filled with some kind of fluorescent/radioactive dye by Slithe.
-
In “Out of Sight”, Nayda was able to see him because she was invisible too!

I’m not sure but I think Mumm-ra was able to see him once and Lion-O was able to see him using “Sight Beyond Sight”? Really not sure though.
I’ll give you #2
About #1, he had already lost his whip in the moat, so I think he wasn’t invisible by the time the Mutants saw him.
I have at least three more in mind (besides Nayda).
I just re-checked that scene and indeed he WAS invisible when the Mutants saw him on their screen. It was the stuff that they had put in the moat that made him visible to them. That is why even in his invisible state, he had sparkly stars around him signifying that the Mutants could see him. Then Slithe decides to chew him up with the Nosediver and attacks him a couple of times (so he was able to see him) before Tygra (still invisible) incapacitates the Nosediver. Only when swimming through the tunnel does Tygra lose his whip and become visible.
Ok, thanks for clearing that one up ![]()
Still 3 more to go. Hint: 2 of them were regular characters, 1 was an one-episode only character.
Phosphor-R! I never made the connection to the little sparkles—I had always wondered how Slithe got such a bead on him.
I think Lion-O and Cheetara see him in the Jungles of Darkness through the Cat’s Eyes in “Chain of Loyalty”.
And I also seem to remember the Mossland Monster being able to see him, or at least deduce his location, in “The Mossland Monster”.
I haven’t checked either of these, though, so I might be wrong.
Zax, you got the Mossland Monster right.
He wasn’t invisible in the Jungles of Darkness though (that was something I never understood: when Tygra fought the other TCs, either in “Chain of Loyalty” or “Mad Bubbler”, he didn’t turn invisible against them… why? Also, he didn’t turn invisible against many foes -Safari Joe to name one- or situations when it would have been very useful. I guess that would have made it very easy for him to save the day and take that away from Lion-o lol).
So far, Wilycub has 2:
[ul]
[li]Mutants in “Fireballs from Plun-Darr”[/li][li]Nayda in “Out of Sight”[/li][/ul]
Zax has one:
[ul]
[li]Mossland Monster in the episode of the same title.[/li][/ul]
There are still 2 more to go… will it end up in a 4:1, a 3:2 or a 2:3 score? Don’t miss the next episode of the trivia! lol
I thought of another one! Vultureman can see him in “The Super Power Potion”.
Also, I know it’s doubling up, so it probably shouldn’t count, but that same scene of Tygra underwater in “Fireballs of Plun-Darr” is also visible to Lion-O via Sight Beyond Sight.
Vultureman is correct. So the score is 2 - 2 now!
I won’t count sight beyond sight this time, sorry (besides, I’m not 100% sure Lion-o got to see him when invisible; I remember LIon-o seeing him bound to the 4 Winds machine, calling his name. And, even if Lion-o did see Tygra, he wasn’t actually/technically seeing him but what happened to him).
Still 1 to go (kind of tricky).
Any clues for the last one, “Tygra-Rules”? It seems both “Zax” and I are a bit stumped.
OK, a couple:
[ul]
[li]think of a regular character[/li][li]think on how Nayda got to see Tygra when invisible[/li][/ul]
