Game: ThunderCat Trivia

BAM! You got it! I dunno if any the writers ever had this in mind, but in my head-canon, I always figured that Claudis was Lord of the Thundercats until he was blinded. Since he could no longer fully utilize the Sword of Omens, he passed it and the Lordship onto Jaga while Claudis himself remained Lord of Thundera. The way I see it, it really is the only way Jaga could have been lord with Lion-O still being the hereditary lord as stated in “The Trial of Strength”.

Anyhow, yer turn, friend!

I’m guessing Claudus was Lord of Thundera, which includes every Thunderian, which includes the ThunderCats, while Jaga was Lord of the ThunderCats like being chief or general of that specific group, but Claudus was still his Lord (overlord LOL).

Then, Lion-O could only be Lord of the ThuderCats as he couldn’t be Lord of Thundera because there was no Thundera anymore.

I like this theory! Makes sense to me that Claudus was initially the king/ruler (Lord of Thundera) and the commander in chief of the “army” (Lord of the ThunderCats). But after losing his sight, he handed over the latter position to Jaga while still continuing to be the ruler of the planet. So Jaga still answered to him.

Eep! Sorry this took so long for me to get back to. [emoji53] Here’s a new one:

What’s the Thunderian word for “waterspout”?

ETA: The guards in “Return to Thundera” answer Lion-O’s claim to “Lord of the ThunderCats” with (old) Claudis being “Lord of Thundera”, which suggests an equivalence between the titles. If Jaga held one title and Claudis another, the guards would have answered Lion-O differently.

I’ve sometimes entertained the theory that they both held the title—Thundera had two Lords, both duly anointed, and since Jaga had no children, Lion-O was the only heir.

And of course, the shipper in me is keen on some of the implications for two concurrent Lords. [emoji6]

You mean Jaga and Claudis could’ve been bumpin’ furries?

Tough one for sure, at least for me. Could I ask for one hint? I just need to know, in the vaguest terms possible, where the answer is derived from. Like, is it in the show, a script, comic, etc? If the hint would give away the answer, just lemme know. Thanks!

Oh, it’s in the show. They just use a non-standard word to describe what we would call a waterspout.

Hahaha, in essence.

Hahaha after spending more time than one would think possible googling Thunderian languages, I realized I was taking your question a bit too seriously. Is the answer “Sea Spire”?

Yep! From “Frogman”. I remember as a kid thinking that that’s what they were actually called, and people looking at me funny. “You mean a waterspout…?” [emoji23] Of course, I also thought that earthquakes were accompanied by a loss of gravity, so… yeah.

As for Thunderian languages, I spent more time than one would think possible (mainly in high school) creating one. [emoji851]

LOL! Well, that’s what you get for watching the later seasons when you were a kid. I didn’t get to see beyond “Thundercats Ho!” until I was in my mid-teens. May I ask, do you enjoy the later seasons just as much due to any nostalgic factor? I mean, I like the later episodes for what they are, but I was somewhat disappointed when first seeing them. I dunno if that is because I wasn’t as “attached” to them due to being nostalgic for the earlier season or if I had just built them up so much in my heart before I was able to finally watch them.

As for “sea spire” versus “waterspout”…I guess I never thought of it. Honestly I don’t encounter a lot of water tornadoes in my day-to-day life so I probably would have called it a “sea spire” myself. It is only from my googling of “waterspout” today that I realized what one even is! Sad, I know.

I think its awesome that you were working on developing another language in high school! Hell, I couldn’t even stay awake in the class that was supposed to teach me one! Do you still have it somewhere?

I grew up with a little over half the episodes on tape, scattered across all four seasons. I didn’t see “Ho!” until my teens (I always knew there must have been a Fire Rock Mountain episode, but I had no idea it was a five-parter!), nor anything past “Screwloose”. But, yeah, the later seasons hold just as much nostalgia for me as the first. When I finally saw the remainder of the fourth season, I was a little disappointed. But there’s a good chunk of the first season that I don’t feel attached to at all, and that I consider just as mediocre. [emoji53] And there are things about the later seasons that feel so intrinsic to the mytholgy, that, yes, I do sometimes squirm when folks badmouth them.

Are you kidding? Of course I have it! It’s in the same three-ring binder that it’s been in for sixteen years, haha. Plus the big vocabulary spreadsheet on my computer, which also includes its descendant Plun-Darrian language spoken by the—wait for it—Vermen. Yeah, I was pretty serious. And if I recall correctly, the whole reason I went down the conlang rabbit-hole was because the mythology I felt I needed as a basis for my (still unwritten) fanfic had to include an ancient language to lend it, as Tolkien would say, historicity. [emoji849]

The one fic I’ve ever published online has a snippet of the language in it, a line from Jaga to Claudis (alluding to a line of Lion-O’s from “Return to Thundera”): Sheinésar fin, ðanya simasyáe. “May we meet again, somewhere in time.”

Ok folks…here’s a new trivia question.

Throughout the course of the series, we’ve seen WilyKit use pellets, her lariat and (once) the other Thundercats’ weapons. Discounting anything she may have improvised for use as a weapon, can you name one other hand-held weapon she is seen using?

I was about to say “Herself” as she’s able to spin on her back to kncok out enemies and obstacles, but then I re-read your question and noticed the “hand-held” part, so I have no idea LOL

Nice question! I don’t know for sure, but I recall WilyKit holding the Sword of Omens in “Totem of Dera” to keep the Mutants at bay while Lion-O lies unconscious. In the beginning of the episode, she used a shield during her training fight with Snarfer. Don’t know if that counts as a weapon.

Curses. Here is the problem - you did not answer with what I had in mind, but you gave a valid answer. I will try to narrow my question down more for next time. Meanwhile, it is your turn WilyCub!

So what was the answer you were thinking of?

I am gonna try to ask the question again, but narrow it down a bit more. However, if you have an idea of what it is, feel free to shout it out.

Nope, no idea, was just curious to hear what it was. I can wait though.

Thanks BB. I know exactly what you mean. Many times I too pose a question thinking that the answer that I have in mind is the only correct one, only to discover that it isn’t. :giggle
I too am curious to know what answer you had in mind!

Here’s a new easy one:

The design of the Stone Gargoyles (from “The Tower of Traps”) was reused for another character in another episode. Name the episode and the character(s).

Oh bleep. I do know this but I can’t remember what off the top of my head!
