Chris here…

Pictures speak louder than words, Kyle - you’re a genius! Thank you so much for that, it’s perfect and a great thing to come home to after (yet another) evening out!!

Take care…

Just fyi - got off my lazy bum and uploaded finished pages of html for all four pending eps. LMK if anything is screwy with them. Thanks.

Chris here…

Hey Angie, nothing lazy about your bum! I’m off out in a short while for the afternoon, but will do the business with positioning the pages when I get back.

Many thanks for all of your help with this, believe me when I say that it is (and always will be) very much appreciated!

EDIT: OK gang, I think we should all be very proud of ourselves - 25% of the revamped Episode Guide is now complete and ready to go online!!

“Dr Dometone”: http://www.thundercatslair.org/cartoon/cartoonguide/episodeguide/drdometone/index.html
“The Astral Prison”: http://www.thundercatslair.org/cartoon/cartoonguide/episodeguide/astralprison/index.html
“Queen of 8 Legs”: http://www.thundercatslair.org/cartoon/cartoonguide/episodeguide/queenofeightlegs/index.html
“Dimension Doom”: http://www.thundercatslair.org/cartoon/cartoonguide/episodeguide/dimensiondoom/index.html

The index page for the Episode Guide will be updated shortly, and then an announcement posted on the front page - it’s still a long road to travel, but we’re getting there!

Take care…

Chris here…

Just to say that I have now completed the write-ups for the following two episodes:

“Lion-O’s Anointment Third Day: The Trial of Cunning”
“The Rock Giant”

MannyF: Many thanks for your kind offer of help with the HTML following Angie’s standing down, it’s very much appreciated! If the offer is still open I’d be very grateful for your help - if you have a basic understanding of HTML it’s not too hard, basically just copy-and-pasting text and then tweaking a few things. That said, it can be quite time-consuming which is why Angie’s help has helped me motor through the Episode Guide at a faster pace - if you’d be able to help me out that would be simply amazing!

I can upload the Word documents with the write-ups - please can you LMK where you’d like them uploaded to?

Last but by no means least, if you’d be able to provide further assistance in the screenshots department, again that would be absolutely amazing and very much appreciated - many thanks as always for all your kindness and hard work, my friend!

Kyle: You are so going to want to kill me, because the write-up for “The Trial of Cunning” actually features a quote from a character not yet illustrated, namely one of the Underearth People who make their only appearance in that episode! There’s no pressure, as obviously we’ve just done a big Episode Guide update and so I want to bank up a few more before posting up the next one, but if I could be really cheeky and put in a request for an illustration of one of the Underearth People as and when you have the time that would be brilliant! Many thanks my friend, and I promise you’ll get a shot at revenge one day, LOL!

Thanks everybody for all your hard work on this - I’m loving how this is shaping up!

Take care…

Yeah I’ll be helping out. I’ll have the HTML done sometime next week if that’s okay Chris…us Americans are on holiday right now. ::gobble gobble::

Chris here…

Whoops, you’re right, I forgot! There’s no pressure at all, Manny, I strongly suspect that whatever gets completed now will get banked up and announced shortly before Christmas, around the time of our 2nd Anniversary!

LMK if you need anything from me - like I say it’s all pretty straightforward, the biggest pain in the you-know-what is that when I copy and paste the text I have to input my own formatting tags (e.g., like this, LOL!), and also I have to go through and re-type every apostrophe (this symbol here - ’ ) and every quotation mark from how they display in Word, otherwise the HTML can go screwy! :frowning:

Take care…

Chris here…

Update - write-ups now completed for the following two episodes:

“The Thunder-Cutter”
“Mechanical Plague”
(which I really ripped into in my review, LOL!)

I’ll update the status page accordingly!

Take care…

Hey Chris, what template did Angie use? Is it okay to just take one of the episode pages and just replace the content? I’m not sure how you guys did things and if you wanted to do the same routine.

Oh and you can upload the write-ups to this folder: http://www.thundercatslair.org/staff/manny/cartoon/episode_write-ups

Or, if you have already uploaded them, just let me know where they are!

Chris here…

Yep, you can essentially just grab any of the Episode Guide pages and replace the content - just pick a random one, LOL! The only thing I’d suggest is maybe going for an episode midway through the ones that are already completed, so, for example, episode 15, just in case there are things with the template that have been corrected along the way - I know I’ve made no major changes recently, so any episode from about episode 15 onwards should be fine!

The biggest thing as I say is replacing the apostrophies (this symbol - ’ ), quotation marks (" "), and hyphens ( - ) rather than just copy-and-pasting them from MS Word, as like I say, for some reason that can cause some kind of screwy symbols to appear in the completed HTML page - Kyle understands the technical side of that and why it happens more than I do…

I hadn’t uploaded them already, but have now done so to the area you suggest! Many thanks, Manny my friend!

Something with all my write-ups that I stupidly neglect to do is write down in them who wrote the episode(s) in question - do you need me to provide that info, Manny, or do you have it already? Needless to say they all also need the official Rankin-Bass synopsis and moral for each one, which for me means I have to download and access the old versions of the pages that we have archived. Anyway, LMK if you run into any problems - and, thank you so much for all your help my friend, it really means a lot to me!

Take care…

Improvements to the Episode Guide!

Chris here…

Just to let you know that Martin’s “About the Writers” article arrived on my desk a few days ago and is now online - this should be ready to go live on the site with the next update!

http://www.thundercatslair.org/cartoon/about/articles/writers.html

How does this relate to the Episode Guide, I hear you ask? Very simply because (with Martin’s approval), in addition to the biographical details for each writer, I have also listed each episode that they have worked on, complete with a hyperlink to each completed page in the Episode Guide (this page will be updated with each new batch of Episode Guide pages that get completed). Addtionally to this, I have long planned for the heading of each episode guide page (i.e., the episode’s title and the writer credit underneath) to include a hyperlink on the writer’s name to a page listing what other episodes they wrote - now that page finally exists!

Below is an example of what I mean by this - if you click on the name “Peter Lawrence” you’ll see it takes you straight to Peter Lawrence’s bio:

http://www.thundercatslair.org/cartoon/cartoonguide/episodeguide/timecapsule/index2.html

Now, the bad news with regard to this idea is that I now have to methodically work my way through the 33 completed pages of the revamped Episode Guide and add the relevent code to each one - but, it’s not a ridiculously hard thing to do and should hopefully not take too long!

MannyF: Unless you’ve already begun work on the Episode Guide pages mentioned above, in which case don’t worry, please would it be possible for you to work from that page I just linked to above as your template? Although the hyperlink for the episode’s writer will still need changing each time (which I can do if you’d prefer not), nonetheless at least that way the code will be there, it will just need a new name after each # symbol - e.g. writers.html#williamovergard, writers.html#sandyfries, etc. However, like I say, if you have already started work on the Episode Guide pages using an old template, don’t worry, having to alter four more pages isn’t going to make a lot of difference!

Many thanks for all your hard work, everybody - I think we can all be proud of the way things are going!

Take care…

Chris here…

Just to say write-ups have now been completed for the following two episodes, and uploaded to MannyF’s staff folder:

“The Demolisher”
“Feliner - Part One”

MannyF: First of all can I say many thanks for the PM you sent me about this the other day - my apologies for the delay in replying. No worries at all re: the delay in getting these done, I know it’s a hectic time of year, and I’m just really grateful to you for the offer of help!

Although I’d hoped to be further on with getting these done than I am, nonetheless I’m pretty pleased with my progress and still hope to get at least another couple of episodes written up before Christmas!

Take care…

Chris here…

At long last, after many delays, I’ve finally gotten my backside around to adding to this status thread the update to the Episode Guide that I completed and uploaded on Christmas Eve!

http://www.thundercatslair.org/cartoon/cartoonguide/episodeguide/trialofcunning/index.html
http://www.thundercatslair.org/cartoon/cartoonguide/episodeguide/rockgiant/index.html
http://www.thundercatslair.org/cartoon/cartoonguide/episodeguide/thundercutter/index.html
http://www.thundercatslair.org/cartoon/cartoonguide/episodeguide/mechanicalplague/index.html
http://www.thundercatslair.org/cartoon/cartoonguide/episodeguide/demolisher/index.html
http://www.thundercatslair.org/cartoon/cartoonguide/episodeguide/feliner-part1/index.html

MannyF: I know you were asking about screengrabs and what needs doing at last night’s team meeting - I just wanted to say that this status thread is now completely up-to-date, and so any episodes that say “screenshots awaiting” are in need of those. Thanks in no small part to your incredible help with this, there are only 18 episodes left from season 1 still in need of screenshots - I’d better get my skates on with the write-ups!

Thanks again everybody for all your help!

Take care…

Chris here…

OK gang, just to add yet another post from me to the end of this thread, this just to let you know that write-ups have been completed for the following episodes:

“The Wolfrat”
“Excalibur”
“Lion-O’s Anointment Fourth Day: The Trial of Mind Power”
“Secret of the Ice King”
“Sword in a Hole”

Thanks to MannyF’s excellent suggestion I’ve been writing these up in WordPad rather than MS Word, which looks like it might integrate with the HTML a lot better - so much so that I’m actually tempted to try and save MannyF yet another job by seeing if I can integrate these into HTML myself. I’ll keep you posted on that, if I try it I might get time tomorrow!

In the meanwhile for these, “Excalibur” is awaiting a couple of illustrations from Kyle (which I’ve notified him about) and also a couple of these are still awaiting screenshots - how are you doing with those, MannyF my friend?

Take care…

The Excalibur illustrations are all done.. just not had a chance to web them yet… coming soon

Chris here…

Awesome news, Kyle - many thanks!

OK, here’s an update - I’ve had a go at incorporating these into HTML, and thanks to WordPad it was much easier! The bad news is, unfortunately for some reason when copy-and-pasting text into NotePad for the HTML it doesn’t do anything about the apostrophe and quotation mark characters, I still have to go through and edit them manually, however I’ve found a quick way of doing that using the “Replace” feature in NotePad. But, it does enable me to port over my own formatting, which saves a lot of time - doing all five of these pages took me just over an hour!

To complete these five pages ready to go “live” on the site, they need those two illustrations from Kyle, as well as screenshots for the following episodes:

“The Wolfrat”
“Lion-O’s Anointment Fourth Day - The Trial of Mind Power”
“Secret of the Ice King”

Lastly, here are the links to the HTML pages as they stand so far - you’ll note that “Sword in a Hole” is 100% complete and ready to go!

Take care…

Chris it is amazing what youre doing with the episode guide

Chris here…

Thanks MannyC - it’s slower progress than I’d like (on my part writing it I mean, not meaning that those helping me are slow), but at least this way what’s online already should, theoretically, last for years and years, plus when it’s completed it will, IMO, be the definitive and most comprehensive TCats episode guide online!

Take care…

Excellent work as always Chris!

As yet I haven’t completed any work. I know I was meant to be putting the Minis Guide together, but I’m still waiting on all the written and photographic material for that.

Once I have it, I plan to spend one day a week working on ThundercatsLair.org stuff

Chris,

I have the following episode screens uploaded in my staff folder (screenshots/february2008)

  • Divide and Conquer
  • Dream Master
  • Good and Ugly
  • Secret of the Ice King
  • Out of Sight
  • The Mumm-Ra Berbil
  • The Transfer
  • The Trial of Mind Power
  • The Wolfrat
  • Trapped

The remaining 8 or so episodes are also completed…but uploading seems to take a long time for me so I’ll have to upload the rest at another time…hopefully within the next couple days.
