Episode Guide Status - UPDATED 21st March 2011

Hi all,

Following last night’s excellent Team Meeting, it was agreed that there would be some changes to how we’re currently putting together TCL’s revamped Episode Guide. Whilst it was agreed by the team that I’d still be heading up the project, thanks to the generosity of both MannyF and Angie, I’m now able to focus my time on writing the notes of interest and review for each episode rather than having to struggle with HTML and so forth. Can I give a huge note of thanks to both of them for helping reduce my workload - seriously guys, I feel as though the weight of the world has lifted from my shoulders! :wink:

Given that the Episode Guide project is now no longer a one man show, I propose to use this thread to keep score on where we’re at and how we’re doing with each episode’s page. Unlike other status threads, I’d like to suggest that folks do post in here with questions, updates on status, and so on. For my part, what I shall do is edit this first post to show the status of the work as it happens, so that there’s an easy place for folks to refer to. :slight_smile:

Amazing layout there buddy :).. Quick note to you.. When you are doing the quotes, let me know which character illustrations you need as you need them and I will prioritize those images..

Thanks for the kind words, my friend! :slight_smile: In terms of character images, even though the page for the episode “Mandora - The Evil Chaser” is completed, one character I would love to have included a quote from for that episode, but couldn’t because of the lack of illustration, was the Living Ooze - when you get round to doing him, I’d like to add one retrospectively! :slight_smile:

Also, just to give you guys a heads-up - I’m just in the process of finishing off the HTML for episode 15, “The Time Capsule”, which in terms of images and write-ups is practically finished. I’m trying to get a “clean slate” from which the new Episode Guide team can work! :slight_smile: I hope this all sounds OK to everyone. :slight_smile:

Soon as I familiarize myself with the set-up you guys use, I should be good to go for the html part of future pages. Also be sure to LMK what directory to load finished pages to…at least, I take it that’s what you folks do - upload them to a particular directory to make sure we like what we see before it goes live. Once I get the hang of it, I’ll be much less of a newbie PITA :wink:

OK, I’ve been working my way through the screenshots that Celesta did for the Episode Guide - I promise I’m not being catty (no pun intended! :wink: ) when I say that some of the stuff she uploaded I don’t feel is useable because they are very clearly shots that have been done from an art reference POV rather than for a project like this, however there are also some very good selections. :slight_smile:

Also just a heads-up that this afternoon I was able to complete the write-ups for both “Mongor” and “Return to Thundera” - the review I’ve done for the latter is so enthusiastically effusive that I’m now expecting Bob Haney to act as my guardian angel! :smiley: Joking aside, I’m hoping to get some more done over the next week, motivated by the fact that the next one I have to do is one I’ve been particularly looking forward to writing up, “Snarf Takes Up the Challenge”! :slight_smile:

Oh, and just to add, Bob McFadden would appear to have voiced Vultureman on more than one occasion - Vultureman makes his second appearance of the series in “Return to Thundera”, and to me, whilst his voice is closer to the one Earl Hammond would give him, that’s still Bob McFadden doing the voice! :slight_smile: What do the rest of you guys think? :slight_smile:

Sorry Chirs - hadn’t seen these posts til now!

Basically, since I juggle so much stuff, I rotate jobs. That is to say, I work on one of my sites, help someone out, work on another site, help at another project, and back 'round again. If I get too much going at once, I find it hard to focus enough to do a good job on any one thing.
And now that I’m between jobs, it’s the perfect opportunity for me to catch up over here and get some coding done for you. Manny gave me all the info I think I need to get started so hopefully I’ll have some links for you here soon.

As for Vman, you’re probably right. He does sound a bit ‘different’ in a few eps, that one included.

Pardon meh double post.

Since Chris uploaded what bits he has done, and in the interest of getting the ep guide rolling, I started working on plugging his fine words into html. I used the Berbils page as a template and took the liberty of also adding the R&B synopsis and Morals to the page as well, given I have a copy myself.

I see that you name every page index.html and put them in a folder of the ep name, but in the interest of keeping things straight for me on my comp and on the temp folder where I’m uploading them, I named each page itself for the ep. Simply change the name to index.html before it goes live on the site.

I’m assuming the broken images will resolve themselves when the file is uploaded to the proper folder - that and the screen caps, I know, someone else is working on so I left that portion alone.

If I overlooked something, or there’s things you want bolded or italicized etc that aren’t, this is the place to lemme know. Like I said, I used the Berbils page as a template, so I tried to make it match stylistically as close as I could.

I will still rip audio clips to match the quotes, but at this time Chris and I agreed (and we hope you all will too) that the priority is to get the basic framework of the ep guide done, and I can go back and do bells n’ whistles type stuff later. Just wanted to let you all know I haven’t forgotten - simply doing some prioritizing!

There’s 8 more eps Chris uploaded his work for, and I’m going to try to get them all finished today. Shouldn’t take too long, and I figured I might as well fire them off while I got some time :slight_smile:

Everything you mentioned there Angie is correct.. the pages are index.html so that you can give someone a tidy url such as www.thundercatslair.org/cartoon/cartoonguide/episodeguide/exodus (without the whole .html thing on the end)… So they will just need to be changed to index.html when uploaded.. so thats cool.

The images are linked locally and not remotley, so when the pages are placed in the correct directory the images will work fine.

So everything is superb :slight_smile:

I thought that might be the case with the images from how they’re coded, so I was just making sure - and left the code alone until I found out :wink:

I did figure out how to get the right character thumbnail for the quotes to show up, but should I run into a situation where there’s not a thumbnail for a quote Chris pulled, I’ll let you know and I’ll just leave a placeholder there in the meantime.

Oh and I made a minor tweak to All That Glitters - I did notice you have two Jaga thumbnails so I changed the thumb in his quote for that ep to the ghost thumbnail since it was a quote from his ghostly form.

Spitting Image is now up :slight_smile: Cruising right along!

Edit: Chris - I notice in the notes for Mongor you note he along with the Astral Moat Monster are the only two one-shot characters to get an action figure. What about the Tongue-A-Saurus? Or is there a different reason you omitted him. Just wondering :slight_smile:

Angie, these are amazing! These are exactly the way I would want to see these, even down to you replacing the quote marks, apostrophies, etc., because of the HTML integration issue I told you about, that Kyle can explain in more detail! :wink:

My one and only nitpick would be if you could alter the header on “The Trial of Strength” from “Lion-O’s Anointment Trial Part One: Trial of Strength” to “Lion-O’s Anointment First Day: The Trial of Strength”. The only other thing I do is that, in the Notes of Interest, I tend to put a space between the asterisk (this symbol - *) and the start of the word that follows it - but, it was looking over several of those before I spotted the difference with yours, so I highly doubt anyone else would notice! :wink: Honestly, seriously, you have done an UNBELIEVABLE job with these, what you’ve done here would have taken me days to complete! Thank you so much! :slight_smile:

Hey Kyle, looking over Angie’s amazing work I realise there’s a character I did neglect to mention needing an image from, and that’s Queen Tartara from the episode “The Crystal Queen” - http://www.thundercatslair.org/staff/angie/Finished%20Ep%20Guide/crystalqueen.html . Any chance that you’d be able to bump that one to the top of your list my friend? :slight_smile:

Angie rocks! Yep, in my write-ups, when doing the quotes, I tried to indicate which “version” of the character the quote was from - e.g., from an episode like “The Astral Prison” the quote would likely be from the “solid” form of Jaga, whereas most other episodes it’s the ghostly form. Fantastic that you picked up on that, we seem to make a great team! :wink:
