I think what some people are trying to say is that at least the TCs names refer to a specific animal (lion, tiger, panther, cheetah, wildcat, puma, lynx, jaguar); same happens with Ratar-o (rat), Jackalman (jackal) and Vultureman (vulture)… Monkian refers to a species (moneky), not a specific moneky. Now, Vultureman and Jackalman are, as Balgus said, really MOTU lol, that’s why I welcome new names for them, as long as they still show the relation to the vulture and jackal (and the moneky); if not, have the TCs renamed as well, JMO.
We should be glad all the thundercats didn’t get nameslike Cat-O, Feliner, Catra, etc.
Because I have both spring & cherry blossom fever: Could it be that the name for Jackalman, Addicus, came from the scientific name for the [I]side-striped jackal ([I]Canis adustus)?

It’s generally referred to as IME…it works using the roomaji (English characters to produce Japanese words) system and does not require the use of a specific Japanese keyboard.

As for the vehicles…I was always a fan of the Mutant’s rides but I have a feeling they won’t be updated. The Nose-Diver, for example, was Slithe’s vehicle…but I’ve yet to see it in the new show. I’m more interested in the weapons, as I’ve always loved Monkian’s ball-and-chain. Neither of the two “new” generals are using there trademark weapons in the trailer though, so hopefully they WILL make appearances.
Well actually, Kaynar is using the same kind of weapon Jackalman used in the OS, a halberd. He didn’t use it very much in the original though, I don’t think.
For me the most important thing is they kept out the animal-like voices for Jackalman and Monkian. In the 80s there was a tradition of imitating and recreating the voice and sounds of animals, but when you watch them now it’s kind of funny, to say the least.
