“New Alliances”
The Thundercats go on the offensive taking down Mumm-Ra’s lizard army piece by piece. Lion-O appeals to the soldiers to turn against their overlord, but Mumm-Ra won’t see his army crushed so easily. He tasks Slithe with recruiting two new and vicious Generals – Addicus and Kaynar – to retaliate against the cats. Meanwhile, the Robear Berbils make Panthro a new set of robotic arms and soop up the Thundertank.
Purely speculation…but ya think Tygra might get the stone? Granted Dan said this was just a brainstorming session and the poses weren’t used. But still interesting no?
I just saw the preview clips for the first time and my jaw hit the floor when Jackalman and Monkian appeared! I love the character designs for them and had a real “old school geek out” moment seeing them and S-S-Slithe all together!
I can’t wait for ThunderCats to return, I’m surprised WB are sending out preview material this far in advance, but I’m definitely not complaining!
Looks great as usual, but I gotta say it’s gonna take some getting used to the voices of Kaynar & Addicus.. NOTHING like the original… not a bad thing, but since the design of both characters are so similair to Jackalman & Monkian, you’d expect those good old Peter & Larry voices.. I did anyway… anyhoo, great stuff!
Monkian & Jackalman, finally! Nice to see the kittens on the boards too!
Edit: Just saw the preview clips. Their voices are terrible! Come on production team, put some imagination into these things. How does a evil monkey like creature sound so “proper” ? And Jackalman sounds so weak… like a little kid.
I try not to nitpick but I was really disappointed with this one.
I think the voices are alright. Kaynar does does kind of like OS Jackalman did. Addicus is going to take a little getting used to, but let’s see what else he has to say. We need to get a better grasp of what their new personalities are like.
In fact, I think Addicus might be voiced by Matthew Mercer. if that’s trues, it would be like how Tygra and Monkian shared the same voice actor in the original. Does anyone know who the VAs are for the new baddies?

Now, as for plot development, it’s good to see that Lion-O is reaching out to the lizards like he did in the premiere. I was hoping that would come back. Plus, Lion-O seems to be a much more confident fighter now. He took out that hover tank without much trouble, and he didn’t seem afraid at all when facing down all three generals.
I’m wondering what Atticus and Kaynar are going to be like personality-wise too…will be interesting to see how they go with it compared to the original. If you listen, Atticus actually has a little bit of the vocal mannerisms that are ape-like, so that’s still kinda there. The degree of which will be known when the full ep airs I’m sure.
Anyone know if Vultureman will appear at some point?
I don’t mind Kaynar’s voice as much as Addicus. Jackalman always sounded kinda weaselly and he still kinda does. But Addicus is annunciating a bit too clearly and sounds way too civilized.
Agreed. I know Monkeys are regarded as an intelligent species but perhaps because we have already seen how the OS represented the Monkians I was hoping he would sound a bit more “barbaric”.
One thing I am hoping for is that they make these two bigger threats then in the OS. I’m fine with the reptilian foot soldiers running away and such but I hope Monkian and Jackalman are portrayed as much stronger adversaries for the cats.
Took a look at the clips. Very nice! Just want to share my impressions…
The kittens finally have their spaceboards! Yay! Since they came with their action figures, I was wondering just how long it would be before they showed up (no doubt the Berbils built them, along with Panthro’s robot arms).
Is that a Mutank chasing them through the canyon? (good chase scene BTW) I want to think it is anyway, since in Ocelli and my story, both the Mutanks and Thundertanks now hover instead of using treads (something that was inspired by Activision’s remake of the arcade game Battlezone). It could just as easily be a troop transport. Either way, it has “toy” written all over it!
Not too preturbed over the Sword’s abilities here. At least Lion-O is using the Claw Shield rather than the Sword to block enemy fire. I did like when the beam hit the Eye and it reacted with its own energy beam. It didn’t bother me this time somehow since in this version it’s been established that the Eye is actually one of the Stones of Power, and this could simply be just something it does.
I for one like the new voices of Kaynar and Addicus. Kaynar of course sounded reminiscent of the original Jackalman, but I especially liked Addicus’ voice. I was expecting him to intersperse his dialogue with “hoo-hoo” and sounding stupid like he did on the old show. So when he opened his mouth and instead sounded something like Kelsey Grammer, I got a real kick out of it! It meant these guys are no longer joke villains and should be taken seriously. First they get proper names, now they’re forces to be reckoned with. Once again Dan and company, Kudos!
I now officially cannot wait until the 24th! Fortunately Mass Effect 3 and John Carter are around to take the edge off.
Quick thoughts:
I like the space boards. Space boards are cool.
Cool chase and a badass introduction to Lion-O.
Second clip, I do like the new voices for Atticus and Kaynar. The more I think about it, I think the voices fit given a hint of their personaties I’ve seen. Now this is something to look forward to.
So Cheetara and Tygra came to the rescue together ? :o I don’t know whether to be happy that they came to the rescue or disgusted that they were together. Is it just a coincidence, or is it the beginning of a animated soap opera? I guess that it is just my biases with romance in an anime, but I hope that I am just jumping to conclusions.
Wooo, go Lion-O! I LOVE the Kittens on their new boards! Those kids will now be practically invinicible!
It’s a given that Lion-O will have to deal with the fact that Tygra and Cheetara are now a couple. He’ll be jealous, yes; how else can he possibly feel at the moment? But deal with it he must because he’s now a king and a king in his position cannot let his heart rule his head. I’'m also pretty sure he’ll feel loneliness because of it and think to himself, “Why can’t I have someone of my own?” That is, if the writers allow him to have those thoughts, and allow us to see him having them.
Iit’s now Kaynar and Addicus for Jackalman and Monkian? Oh well, to me they’re still Monkian and Jackalman. It’s be interesting to see what name they give Ratar-O…that is, if Ratar-O shows up.

What did you expect them to do? Leave Lion-O alone to face Slythe, Addicus, and Kaynar? Cheetara and Tygra may be a couple, but Lion-O is their king as well as Lord of the ThunderCats. Tygra and Cheetara are pledged to serve him in that capacity, especially Tygra since he’s Lion-O’s brother. So they did exactly as I would have expected: They came to his defense and to support him.
How does Tygra and Cheetara coming to the aid of Lion-o constitute anime romance? It’s not like they appeared right next to each other smooching man, in fact Cheetara made a separate entrance. Dunno what you’re talkin’ about to be honest…
