Ebay update thread & collectivity issues!

Explain to me this, what is the point of sending an enclosed Toy to afa like the Thundertank and the Cat’s lair for instance, where the Figure and the Blister subgrades actually don’t exist at all since the Figure/Vehicle/Play set are inside the Box/Card and you can’t see them and there isn’t a Blister or Bubble to be graded
So the entire grading goes to the Card!!!

And someone pays such a huge amount for having a graded Box…

It’s the more money than sense club…they have the ONLY AFA85 thundertank on the planet…no other reason!

I’ve always thought the same. I wonder who paid $1500 for the AFA 85 Thundertank? Was it still factory sealed when AFA graded it as i didn’t notice the listing saying. I only paid £50 for my unsealed MIB Thundertank last month, even a sealed one only went for £90+ I think a short while back on bids. In this case AFA added tremendous value.

I only paid £50 for my unsealed MIB Thundertank last month, even a sealed one only went for £90+ I think a short while back on bids. In this case AFA added tremendous value.

It’s a straight up 85 - no qualified designator!

The thing is, whoever purchased that will be sitting on it for a very long time, there is no “flipping” this one…

Ok i go along with this…but having a graded Lair that you will never ever open it up to see it and you have to make do with just observing a graded box…

I know a hotwheels collector that buys every example of a certain car everytime it comes up for sale, he has hundreds of them, for no other reason than to be able to say “i have 100s of them” and he does not display them or anything…:eek:

It’s like this “proverb” ,I guess you’d call it, I heard in done movie. where an old man selling antique pottery on the side of the road, I saw a flower pot selling for $5 then I saw the same pot listed for $50. When I asked why, he replied, "some people like to pay $5 and others like to pay $50.

Honestly it’s true, whether someone wants to pay an outrageous amount for something because they like to say they paid this much, or they want it simply because it’s expensive, collectible, for status, or other. No one knows why it just is in my opinion.

I did happen to see a Tongue-a-Saurus end on ebay yesterday, I would of bid on it but didnt have the money for it. Went for $143..

I think thats quite expensive as the toy is broken and you’d need another toy with complete tongue to fix it up.

So glad I picked a carded Stinger up when I did! I got mine around 2003 for £25 off eBay. Back then nobody knew or cared who he was (as he never appeared in the cartoon series) Now, coupled with Bengali he’s one of the most saught after characters from the LJN line :o
