Hi, everyone! This is a question that’s been on my mind since the NS aired. As far as Thunderian rulers go, we’ve only seen the kings. Could Thundera have had a queen in its past? Since the Lions are the only ones who can rule, I think it’s highly probable that Lionesses could have ascended the throne since there doesn’t seen to be a Thunderian version of a Salic law banning female rulers. What do you guys think? 
Of course Thundera’s had Queens. Those heirs gotta be born somehow. Though that doesn’t necessarily mean they were the ruler, but it’s entirely possible that a king died early in a war with the lizards and the Queen had to take over his duties.
be awesome to get some backstory on Lion-O’s mum…or even better, Tygra’s original parents!!
I agree with Balgus tho, it’s inevitable there was a few queens at some point…whethere they ruled is another matter.
There’s nothing I know of in cannon, but there might have been. A woman might never held the seat of power, but there’s no guarantee. That’s what fan fiction is for.
Given the way their society seemed to be, I think they probably always required a male king. So if a king died, even if his son was a child, he’d probably assume the throne. If he had no sons, likely a brother or nephew. Just a guess.
Considering the fact that England’s history has had 2 or 3 ruling queens, I’m sure the same could be the same for Thundera’s as well.
Also women have also served as Queen Regents if the heir was too young to assume the throne.
Yup. Probably just the England theory. One of the 2 just happens to not be around for whatever reason.
And if it ever happened that both the King AND Queen died I’d imagine the head Cleric (like Jaga) would be regent until the heir was old enough.
I still think that the Lionesses were off hunting and we will see them with the Amazons. Cheetara didn’t join them because she had to 1. Look out for Lion-O and 2. Had ceremonial obligations with Lion-O and the Sword. Either that or all the Clerics that Perished were the Females.

Except for Cheetara and Wilykat, girls and woman do not play a big role in the world. Only other females seen have been in the plant folks.

Don’t forget Panthera or whatever her name was, who helped Leo. I also thought it looked like one of the 3 who forged the sword of omens was female.
We haven’t come across a whole lot of other races yet. It doesn’t appear lizard females fight. It will be interesting if we ever meet lizard women and children. They were only referenced to so we know they exist.
In Thundera, we saw others, but the way we saw them makes me think they have no authority. That’s why I’m thinking Thundera doesn’t allow women to be in power.
I’m sure we’ll see more strong women to come though - namely the Warrior Maidens. Possibly Pumyra, depending on what they do with her character.
Like Balgus mentioned, Cheetara isn’t a lion(ess). I would also highly doubt it as the Thunderians were obviously more evolved than that. :eek:
There were plenty of women in Thundera. And the fishing boat had women on board as well.

Then there was Panthera in the flashback. The only other civilizations we’ve seen are the Lizards and the Swordsman village (which could’ve had women in the audience watching. It was hard to tell with some of the races there).
Balgus mentions some examples but I think in general, there’s nothing to stop women from doing anything they want.
Let’s get things back on track here. Are we talking about a ruling queen or simply the king’s wife?
What I originally wondered was if Thundera ever had a queen regnant. I imagine there were many queen consorts, but so far both series have not mentioned a Lady of the ThunderCats/Queen of Thundera.
depending on just how long the Thundercats were in power (ie how long they had a king and such), and how long they actually live, i would say there is a good possibility that a queen had to have been in charge at some point
if we are to assume the kingdom of Thundera was in existence for thousands of years (so far i dont think we have been told exactly how long it was between the crash landing on 3rd Earth after the Leo/Mumm-Ra fight and the beginning of the current action), and assuming Thunderians have a similar lifespan to our own, couple with the long periods of war that have been discussed and inferred, it is only natural that at some point a king would have been killed or died, while his son was not old enough to take the throne
being that we know that Lion-O is a direct descendant of Leo, that would imply an unbroken bloodline ruling Thundera. that does not, however, eliminate the possibility of a lioness inheriting the throne if there were no male offspring
I say there most likely was one at some point, but we haven’t heard about it because it has nothing to do with the actual current story.
Yep. While it would be interesting to know Thundera’s history, the series doesn’t have the time to really go into something like that. At the most we’ll probably just see Lion-O’s mother I think as far as seeing/hearing about a Queen.
Thanks for the correction I just wanted to point out that this series involves women very little. It is a gender issue.
