You know, I can still see this working really well. As for the Panthro off ‘exploring third earth’ thing, it got me to thinking(again my infamous speculation);
We saw on the mural in the trailer there had been a battle between the T-cats (Led by an ancestor of Clawdus and lion-o), and the mutants (seemingly led by mum-ra). This great battle may have some signifigance for all third earth, and perhaps even marks the passage from second earth into third earth. I wonder if after the battle, the Thunderians (and thier mutant slave underclass-forced by the Thunderians, of course) hadn’t isolated themselves on an island or an isolated section of a continent for generations, and lost all knowledge of the outside world (except dusty old histoey tomes Royal Vizier/Advisor Jaga the Wise would read).
Perhaps Jaga or Clawdus sent Pantro out to explore these regions, and after the possible exile/departure of the Thundercats from the Kingdom of Thundera, they go out to join him in exploring the ‘new world’. Most of the inhabitants of third earth (the amazons, Tuska warriors, Berbils, etc.) remember the Thunderians only as legends, and it would be as if they had come from another planet…
This is just a stray thought, but Warner Bros does own DC. Maybe They had something to do with that change directly because of wanting it different from superman. And CN does tend to have a lot of DC cartoons.
Maybe the writers were pressured into changing it.
On that note maybe they’re only venturing out because they ran out of Thundrillium or something. You do see Grune bringing that huge chunk of something that looks like it. Maybe Panthro was sent scouting for more. Or maybe Mumm-Ra got to Grune somehow before the start of the show and Is orchestrating the whole thing.
I don’t think it would be quite like the Legend thing where they’re like Third Earth’s version of Atlantis, but Maybe they could have built up a wall or something like Berlin. shrugs
I agree with you on the ‘Atlantis’ thing, though I still wonder if Grune might not have taken over thundera (due to the revolt we saw in the trailer) and Clawdus is dead and his two sons and thier supporters are in exile.
Oh, I just had another thought…
What if Jaga stays back in Thundera, and communicates with Lion-o via some kind of mini-Holographic projecter, that makes him look blue and transluscent… like a ghost. That would be nice nod to the old series, with Jaga being able to advise Lion-o, without going the obi-wan route.
I like that this will all take place on one planet. In a weird way, it makes Third Earth seem like a much more vast land. I wonder if maybe the ThunderCats will be traveling around or if they’ll be staying in one spot. I was thinking the new Tower of Omens could have been a ruin from hundreds of years ago that Panthro fortified.
That’s kind of what I was thinking. They can do stories with out the Exile just fine. this is a remake, not them making new episodes of the original series. (Which come to think of it might be pretty amazing… Maybe we’ll get a crossover with the original series like we got with Ninja Turtles )
What I don’t get (sorry I don’t know if there was any hint of this out there) is why some of you guys keep talking about Third Earth as if it evolved from a Second Earth, and a First Earth before of that.
As I saw it, they called it Third Erth just because it was the third planet from the sun, as Panthro explained it in Exodus… or am I missing something?
I know that, that’s why I’m confussed. I’ve read some posts here that talk about Second Earth (for example, see Omen-Reader’s post above, but is not the only one)… I don’t get where that came from.
I am fine with this change as long as they have The Thundercats’ society destroyed. I always felt like that added a lot to the Thundercats’ story that they were the last of their kind.
If they took this new story in a direction where Mumm-Ra unites all the Mutant tribes, and with the traitor Grune’s help, they destroy “The Kingdom of Thundera”. So yeah, that could work.
Though I will miss the space opera part of it (and I mean that in the best way- I am a big fan of space opera: star wars, star trek, babylon 5) I am still looking forward to what the story will be. I expect it to be different. But as protective as Larry Kenney is of the show, if he said the script was excellent, then I’m more than happy to give it a chance.
I was thinking, but since things are being simplified, what if there are no human characters? What if all the human characters are changed into Thunderians? Like if they wanted humans to be extinct but keep the human characters in a way. I’m not sure how I would feel about that though. I wouldn’t want all the characters to be some sort of animal hybrid. It seems that Mumm-Ra is still human, so I guess we’ll probably see other humans.
Nah I’d rather they keep what few humans there were human. I mean they only really had one native tribe of humans in the Warrior Maidens. Tho I wouldn’t be upset if they added men to that tribe. cause…well how do they reproduce?
Gold Lion, I’ve been thinking about your idea, and it isn’t bad at all.
Just because there are no humans, that doesn’t mean there can’t be other kingdoms, right?
What if Clawdus rules over the kingdom of Thundera, but there are other kingdoms, also conformed by thunderians, but equivalent to the races and kingdoms of the Third Earth in the first series? And all of the noble TCs were chosen from one of those. For example:
The Warrior Maidens = a clan of just female cat-women; I think Pumyra (more than Cheetara) could come out from there.
Hook Mountain in the ice regions = a clan of, lets, say, Snow Leopard thunderians. Bengali could be now a snow leopard rather than a white tiger.
Berbils = a clan of ocelots, jaguarundis, and other small felines. Maybe Wilykat nad Wylikit were chosen from there.
Wollows and Wolkians = a clan of ctas / innofensive small feline thunderians. No TCs chosen from there.
And so on for Brute Men, Mole people, etc… not bad at all. I mkow that would change things a lot because that would mean they already know all the population, but still can work.
Turning the Berbils into Thunderians? I was never too fond of the little snots, but they deserve better than to be changed that much.
No. If they change everyone into Thunderians that would be way too much. And if you’re going to change all the other groups into Thunderians you might as well not even call them by their old names. Because they won’t be Berbils, Brute Men, Wollos, etc anymore.
And this Just occured to me…The little dude Lion-O is fighting in the trailer does kinda look like a Wollo.
