Brand new Thundercats series announced by Warner Bros!

Someone has just posted on another cartoon website that a new Thundercats series has been announced by Warner Bros at the Brand Licensing show that took place wednesday (4th Oct) and thursday (5th Oct) at the Olympia in London.

To quote the original post:

Hi All,

I was at brand licensing yesterday at the Olympia in London and attended the Warner Bros presentation. Preety cool stuff lots of BTS Harry Potter footage, and Happy Feet Sizzles. At the end of the presentation they looked toward two main projects, Batman: The Dark Knight, didn’t show anything just talked about it. Then the head of Licensing asked everyone to be quiet and listen, “Thunder, Thunder, Thundercats HOOOOOOOO!!!” came over the PA system, very sweet!
I think I was the only one in the room that was excited. The logo appeared on a large screen, Colours changed ever-so slightly on it but nothing else. Then he introduced the characters. Lion-O, Tygra, Panthro, Cheetara and Snarf. I had read the synopsis Online a few weeks ago for the new cartoon and was filled with dread! But the designs were really good, take the original designs and add a dose of MYP He-Man and turn the anime knob up to 6-7. There was nothing to suggest that the new series would be set on earth as I had previously read, the characters still looked like cats!!!

Tygra still had his bull-whip thing! Cheetara still has her staff, I think Panthro had his nunckuck things, but I can’t remember what Lion-O had(must have had the sword but I don’t remember seeing it) Snarf actually looked cool, he had a mean look about him with a back-pack /rocket pack on.

The bloke said that The Thundercats would be coming mid to late next year! Good news for all Thundercats fans me-thinks

Oh that would be so freakin sweet. If Warner Brothers is doing it, it should come out pretty decent. And they have the finacial ability to put out an awesome toyline i’d imagine. Can’t wait. You just made my day blackie.

Chris here…

The same person who supplied this initial information has also followed up his original post with this additional info:

Okay, Unfortunatley there was no sign of MummRa, Wilykit or Wilykat.

…they are Skinnier and a lot more cat like. I also forgot to mention…that Cheetara is a lot more covered up, no leotard!

Unfortunately no pics have surfaced from this yet, but if they do we will do our best to bring them to you here at TCL!

Take care…

This is great news! I told my sons, and they are very excited! They enjoy the original series and toys very much. We can’t wait for it to happen. They are already imagining what the toys will be like!
Later!

I’m just glad we got some news for now. Really curious as to how close the costume and character designs will be to what we grew up with. Also can’t wait till some toy protos start showing up next year.

I must say that this is a much better announcement than the previous rumoured direction of the project. Would love to see this happen, lets hope its true and its done with respect of the material.

If the new series comes out late 2007, should there be talks about new ThunderCats actions figures at this upcoming ToyFair and prototype figures at ComicCon?

It only makes sense to announce something at Toy Fair, truthfully I’m not holding my breath. A lot of people thought there would be toys unveiled at this year’s Toy Fair but nothing. I’ll keep enjoying the vintage line  in the mean time. If there’s toys great if not…well I still have my 80’s toy line wohooooo!!!

I saw once in a DeviantArt site a picture of WB Lion-O, that looks just like that guy described: Skinny and more cat-like.

I have it in my computer, I can post it here if you like… I just don’t know if Forum admins allow me to post a picture without knowing its source… Tell me if you are interested and I post it here!

EDIT: FOUND IT!

Here is the link: http://www.deviantart.com/deviation/29844617/?qo=4&q=by%3A2-cents&qh=sort%3Atime±in%3Ascraps

Now that I look at it, the design isn’t as bas as I once thought. I’d like to see what the other characters look like, any links for that?

No, unfortunately… :frowning:

When I read the page that linked to that DeviantArt Gallery, they said there was a design for Mumm-Ra, but I think it has been removed.. :frowning:

This really is some great news for us Thundercat fans… I’m really excited to see what they’re going to do! -I guess we’ll find out soon.

perhaps there will be “mention” of this on the last DVD set?? insert or pamphlet if you will…
I’m just wondering as a side thing, how credible is this source? Which website was this quote taken from? With the last news on this being a farce I’m a tad bit skeptical now, not saying I don’t trust who relayed the info, just wondering about the official source itself…
any thoughts?

Oh, please don’t let that be the final design. Seriously, I consider that a bad design for the Thundercats. Its good in its own rights but it “deviats” from the original source.

Maybe he could be a new Thundercat, but NOT Lion-o.

I’m excited and concerned at the same time. I respect the need to take chances (look at Nintendo and the DS), but not at the expense of the original source.

The Thundercats were cats, yes, but they were more human-like if that makes since. Lion-o needs his boots on.

I loved how in the old cartoon, you knew they were cats but their actions, posture, etc without having them completely look like cats. I just feel that there is no need to evolve the Thundercats into actual Wildcats.

I don’t blame you one bit Neisan, especially after that last rumor everone heard :x Even I would like to know what site this information came from.

Yep, I second that for sure! Thanks for signing up over here, Queen Lynxana - as a big fan of Marvel’s TCats comics, needless to say I really like your username and avatar too!

Take care…

Thanks a bunch for the link and the nice welcome.

Hi, glad to see another Marvel Tcat comics fan and one who actually knows who Lynxana is. Hehehehe so far everytime I meet someone new, I always get stuck explaining my user name and avitar LOL

Well since I don’t want this thread to derail and get off topic about be being new, I’ll say a few more things about the new show. LOL

It was very interesting reading that thread on that link. Hearing that Cheetara is covered up and not in her usual outfit will take some time for us old fans to get used to. Also that the concept art is similar to what they look like and they are skinnier.

For some reason back in the 80’s bigger was better. The men were extreamly buffed up and beefy, everyone, including men, had big hair. Hopefully WB will let everyone here in the US know soon.

And if a new show comes out that means new toys and I have kids. So I’ll have an excuse to buy them!

It’s good to see you here queen lynxana, always great to have one more person to discuss what we all share…Thundercats. Hope to see you around more, take care
