"Between Brothers" - Official Talkback Thread! (CONTAINS SPOILERS!)

it’s not a doll it’s an action figure! lol

First i meant Tygra not Lion-o if Cheetara and Tygra had a few more interactions that were atleast on par with does we got on Lion-o and Cheetara but we didn’t and that’s what bothers me but i guess you have to watch the OS to appriecate that pairing(or not).

Second nice point the pairings of the show doesn’t bother me but it’s how they are presented that ****t me off:mad:. But your response helped shed some light on this mess. I’m not completely happy with the writing staff right now but i’ll give them another season to prove that they don’t think we’re morons.

Thirdly Thank you for more then insightly response it really helped me come to term’s with some of my frustrations:thumbsup:.

I liked this episode a lot. And, I’m okay with all the changes to the characters and relationships. Great ep.

seems interchangeable enough to me

I could have used a little more of a dynamic between CheeTygra before the kiss. The love story was cute, but would have been all the more awesome with a conversation or two. They did just have the longest conversation between group members not involving Lion-O, but thats a problem with every relationship in this series. If it doesn’t involve Lion-O then it has probably two or three lines in it, most likely pertaining to Lion-O.Shrug

I think the drama will have a point. It’ll probably end with Lion-O growing and maturing into a better person. He’s the king, lately he’s been walking around a bit entitled because of it. Getting pretty much everything he wants. He’s not getting the girl though, and it has nothing to do with him being king or not. She was harboring feelings for someone else and is now acting on them. While Cheetara and Tygra haven’t said all that much to each other on screen, they do spend quite a lot of time close to each other. Maybe we were suppose to be picking up on an implied closeness. Once again most of this show has been focused on Lion-O. Even the relationships with Lion-O are lacking
Lion-O/Tygra: 2 lines of arguing every 4 episodes (excluding finale)
Lion-O/Cheetara: Cheer lion-O up, give Lion-O encouragement.Flirting or not hugely debatable and debated.
Lion-O/Panthro: one conflict that was settled in the same episode
Lion-O/Twins: One conflict that was settled in the same episode.

Tygra/Cheetara: Quiet familiarity and a past that was detailed in two episodes. In that flashback we got more of Cheetara’s foundation and personality. We learn that Tygra is almost directly responsible for her being a cleric. Heck this could be why Cheetara is adamant in her support for Lion-O. She knows what it can mean to a person to know that someone is there for you and believes you can do it. I think they’ve both seen different sides of eachother and that is a development that shouldnt be ..shirked

I obviously dont see the flashback as crappy. What makes you think the kiss was drawn last minuet? (besides it being the last scene) I thought it looked damn good.

A long time ago I realized something. I was 17 years old and it came to me, cartoons are no longer being written with me in mind ( never really were, but eh.) Sure that doesn’t excuse poor writing but the people their trying to satisfy are little boys. Little boys who will beg their relatives to buy them the new Lion-O doll at Walmart. When it comes down to it, whether or not fans in their 20s buy into it is of little importance.

The kiss joke i did was bad and i know it looked good i was just making overdramatic ranting. and you have good points but i fail to see were Lion-o felt entitled to everything because he’s king wasn’t there a scene in wich Lion-o said “And thats why she gonna chose me too” or something but weren’t they talking about Lion-o growing as a person not because he’s king help me i’ve forgotten the scene almost completely.

Nice speech but help me out here i am apalled by what Cheetara did (i don’t think she was entirely innocent in her actions there is a line you don’t cross in terms of social conduct when dealing with (especially) teenage boys) i wanna know what you think?
Merged Post:

The changes in character’s is the best things about shows (in most cases) it’s how it was done that made this season finale suck (in a sense).

Wouldn’t it been better if they just strained it another season and then simply introduced the Cheetara/Tygra Pairing in a better way then just going “Boom now it’s there accept it”?

the way Cheetara (almost) used Lion-o with her not so proffesional approach to say the least has really damaged her character in my eyes wich is a shame as i used to think she was the best:(.

I think there is something we may all be missing and its the theme building up so far. There is the personal conflict with Lion-O and Tygra, okay we all got that. Lion-O is given the Sword of Omens, but is still struggling to know how to properly use it. And it is most likely due to his current attitude and behavior. It is highly similar to Tygra in the sense of their constant competitive natures of the two for each other.

Lion-O is more open minded and compassionate, he believed there was technology and possibly all the legends of Third Earth. Tygra while not believing in “fairy tales” initially, he was proven wrong by Mumm-Ra’s first attack. And Tygra is compassionate as shown with his first treatment of the Wilykittens, and how he has helped the other tribes they encountered and of course his Cheetara flashback. Also revealed in the Astral Plane flashback, despite his rough exterior to Lion-O, they have their strong brotherly love at their core. However, there is that competitive streak of the two, and it may still not die down so easily.

In order for Lion-o to fully become LION-O, he must refresh his entire being. Once he has a clear head, he can then surpass Tygra's competitiveness and possible next duel, the temptation of Cheetara if that is made to continue, to allow him to further then unite the animals and finally defeat Mumm-Ra (despite the fact he is already making Mumm-Ra a pushover so far...like in the original series...GGRRRRRRAAAHHHH!!!) and bring back Thundera together as a team. That's all I can think up to add to this discussion... so angry about having to wait for season 2 to start.

Totally agree! I think that the writers wanted us to think that she had those feelings for him. It made this episode better since we were not sure who she loved.

Best episode yet.

She is a cheetah, she moves fast,
I don’t think children will care when they get together, or if they even end up together. Subtlety can sometimes go over a young audiences head, when clearly they need to see Lion-O’s reaction to him feeling betrayed. That way they will understand the tension between the characters. As adults, we may prefer a more subtle and drawn out (adult) relationship growth, but this isn’t made SOLELY for adults.

@Kienkaro Since Ramlak Rising Lion-O has been insisting that his orders be followed not because they make sense or are for the better of the group, but because he is the King now.

That scene in which he taunts Tygra about Cheetara was down right ugly:( . You don’t do that bro, and if you really felt strongly about her you wouldn’t feel right about doing something like that, because you could imagine what it would feel like to be on the other side.
And now you know.

As for social conduct, that depends on who you ask. To you it seems like she was being overly affectionate. To me, I thought she was being supportive. Its not like she sought him out to flirt with him. The only time they’ve really talked is when Lion-O was down and out about one thing or another.
Sure she got a little touchy feely, but some people are that way. Touch can be very comforting, as long as you keep it sensible.

Sorry if this discussion has been already set, I’m many pages back lol

I think it was the real Cheetara kissing Tygra, not only because of what has been already said (that is, Mumm-Ra unable to know about the flower scene, that it would mean Tygra kissed a really old, evil guy, etc.)

My main reason is that the epsiode summary said something like “Cheetara picks her beau”. Had it been Mumm-Ra, I’m sure the producers wouldn’ts have said it that way.

That would be just the most awful, unfair and meanest thing they could to Tygra. Let him keep the girl and amke Lio-o find someone else.

I don’t think the argument is to show that Mumm-Ra is attracted to Tygra in THAT way. Just that he is the deceiver, the one capable of bringing strife to the brothers by fully taking advantage of their weaknesses. And I’m sure Mumm-Ra sees Cheetara as the most glaring weakness for the brothers during their time in the Astral Plane.

Bringing Mumm-Ra into the love triangle debacle may sound like a big stretch, but in the original series “The Garden of Delights”, Mumm-Ra took the form of a flower sprite and tempted Tygra with fruit that made him go against Lion-O. Seeing how the team of the new series has nods to the originals in some degrees, this might MIGHT possibly be one. Of course, I could be totally wrong on my assumption and make myself look like a douche which would be hilarious:liono

Lion-o has to learn to accept loss as well and leave behind his jealousy in order to become a good leader and king.

As a matter of fact, this could be a really good lesson for him. Just as he wants Tygra to accept that the Sword chose him (Lion-o), he has to accept that Cheetara chose Tygra. He complains about Tygra whining and complaining for the corwn and sword , well then he must give the example of acceptance and resignation even when it hurts.

Or, it could help him to understand Tygra’s jealousy and get closer to him.

that or make lion-o really resent tygra and possibly cheetara as well, but I hope your right.

I agree with you on this, despite my previous support of Lion-O+Cheetara, I can see now that right there does bring a balance. Hopefully the series lets Tygra and Cheetara be truly together after “Between Brothers” and no longer dragging on the love triangle.

Sorry if I misread your post (the bolds), but do you mean that because he told her it was pretty clear she has made her choice and left it there, that he didn’t really love her?

I think that because he loves her that much is that he accepted her decission and his “defeat”, because it would have hurt her if he played the victim. It was her decission, and he let her go with it… you know, if you love someone, let him/her go.

I just hope heey don’t turn Tygra into the extrajealous guy annoyed by the support Cheetara giives Lion-o, to the point she gets tired of it and breaks up with him.

We dont live in a perfect world. The writers have to get everything screened before its finalized and unfortunately two males kissing on a cartoon aimed at children is unlikely to make it pass the first cut.

Then again I was surprised they got away with moaning noises on Young Justice.

Once again Tygra being kissed by Cheetara is hardly a literal betrayal from either of them. If they are going to go the route I think there going then Anet should have said Lion-O would feel a betrayal. Then again its not like Anet knows the dynamic between the three. Maybe he said Lion-O would know a betrayal because in the vision Lion-O looked betrayed.
Ok. Re-watched it and Anet says Lion-O would feel betrayal.

I can accept Cheetara breaking up with Tygra because of his jealousy. What I wouldn’t accept is her turning into Lion-o then. It’s not lik she had to choose between the brothers. She is with Tygra because she loves him. If she breaks up with him for whatever reason it’s fine, but she doesnt’ have to jump to the other brother, she could perfectly be alone.

Bottomline is, she’s not with Lion-o because she doesn’t love him, and breaking up with Tygra won’t make her love him. Period.

You know? This is something that bothered me in the last ep.

I really thought Cheetara didn’t remember Tygra, or at least she didn’t know it was him who left the flower there. But it turned out she did.

Then, in “Journey to the Tower of Omens”, when she scolded Tygra for not believing in Lion-o by telling him: “it wouldn’t hurt if you believe in him / have a little faith in him / whatever” (can’t remember the exact words), she could have added something like “just like you believed (or used to beleive) in me”. That would have given us a little hint at least and this resolution wouldn’t feel so rushed or out of place for some (not to me though lol).

Wow, I leave the internet for a few days and the board exploded!

I was on the edge of my seat the whole ep, with my heart beating out of my chest, though I’d also had an energy drink right beforehand…

I think it’s actually kind of cool what they did to Panthro since I bet he’ll be able to do some pretty awesome stuff with his new arms. I don’t think we should get too upset about it since he’s not (He currently can’t do anything except walk, and the thing he’s most bummed about are the scars!

I haven’t watched the OS in awhile but Grune did appear as a ghost at least once didn’t he? Maybe him being trapped in the Astral Plane will bring about something like that.

I’m pretty behind too, so I’m replying to some day old posts, but this is a pretty intense board!

I don’t think she was being sisterly, but she was acting supportive which goes more along the lines of a teacher/mentor. Students will respond better to someone who treats them like they are special. When encouraging someone you have to make them feel good about themselves first.

While it’s true the average teacher wouldn’t kiss their student on the cheek (unless they want to get into trouble), Cheetara isn’t a high school teacher in the public school system. She’s more of a teacher in the sense that she’s mentoring Lion-O to be a stronger leader by encouraging him and helping him believe in himself.

No you are not  Honestly if they had put MORE focus on the love triangle and its resolution I would have been annoyed. This is an action/fantasy cartoon, I like romance on the side but not front and center.

I’m totally cool with romances that are sometimes a second thought–it makes me appreciate the romantic moments more when they happen and at the end of the day I just want to see the Thundercats be awesome and kick butt!

@Everyone who thinks Cheetara is actually disguised as Mumm-Ra:

We don’t have it “set in stone” , just purely suggesting that possibility. It’s different than coming off as “Mumm-Ra was Cheetara in that scene LALALALA!”. It’s just bringing out that to the table since, disguises are Mumm-Ra’s specialties and has been known for taking on a female form a couple times, well his OS incarnation. And when Mumm-Ra was seen leaving the Astral Plane, he escaped very quickly and for once did not say his last words like “I’ll be back HAHAHA” . Plus Mumm-ra seemed to know exactly what glaring weakness to manipulate on the brothers inside the Astral Plane, the Sword and Cheetara.

And how did Cheetara “know”, or find out what exactly what happened inside the Astral Plane? She right away started saying along the lines of “oh hey I heard about what happened between you two in there” and went on speaking around the topic of especially the main reason Tygra and Lion-O were fighting in there, which was largely over her, and seem not offended by that. Of course you can bring up the argument, “Lion-O obviously told her in an unseen scene” but do you really think Lion-O would have felt comfortable detailing to Cheetara her exactlly being a competitive piece between the brothers for fear of offending her? He wasn’t shown “blabbing” out everything that happened inside to everyone in the victory celebration. Just checked up on Panthro, and then went to Anet. Or simply “the story leaves Lion-O’s talk to Cheetara about what happened to the imagination”. Gonna call malarky on that one, that would have been a tough thing for Lion-O to admit to her.

It just seemed rather abrupt/ rushed for the resolve of the love triangle, you can bring the aspect of “they knew each other since kids, they had that flashback” yea I know and very cool flashback but still seems too quick, the triangle could have used a bit more buildup. Not trying to troll the debate, and I apologize if it comes off that way.

really, the number one complaint about this series from the start was it’s seeming lack of pacing. the individual episodes, especially early in the season felt extremely rushed in parts that really should have taken long to develop.

unfortunately that leads to larger plot points, like the Triangle, getting rushed and shuffled around as well.

the major plot point of the Book of Omens was resolved extremely fast for how big of a deal it was supposed to be (a big enough deal that Grune and Panthro spent years looking for it). and now the Love Triangle was addressed and resolved basically within the span of 2 episodes.

i wonder if all this is bad editing, trying to cram for time, or the producers expecting this show to be over relatively soon (as in, not in it for the long haul), and are trying to sprint to the finish line instead of letting the show roll
