I’m getting so excited for this. I started the video with the intention of watching it but then suddenly closed it and decided I wanted to wait till I could watch the full hour. I don’t want to spoil it.
I agree and finally got a chance to see the footage. It feels like WB is playing an internet version of Whack-A-Mole with it because it keeps getting pulled down almost as soon as it’s posted.

When I talked about the old show and how it had great potential to be better than it was, this was what I had in mind. It’s indescribable how much satisfaction I get just to see the show’s creators finally getting to live up to that.
Just some things that jumped-out at me that I liked.

[li]The characters are the same as we remember them essentially, but much more well-drawn (literally and figuratively). Lion-O is still the most principled of all of them, but he doesn’t come across like a self-righteous doofus like he did in the original. The introduction of WilyKat and Kit as orphaned street urchins was great, and in line more or less with my own personal theories for their origins. Making Tygra Lion-O’s brother and giving them a friendly rivalry was inspired, and will go a long way I think towards making him a much more distinct character this time out. Can’t say much about Cheetara as she hasn’t done a whole lot other than fight, but already I can tell that there’s much more here to the character than we ever got in the original.[/li][/ul]

[li]We get a better sense of the Thunderian culture and their place in the grand scheme of things. We learn that not all Thunderians are paragons of virtue like we were led to believe in the old show, and are capable of being just as bigoted and intolerant as we are. Claudis’ exposition of how the Thundercats brought peace to Third Earth and defeated Mumm-Ra gives them a much deeper and understandable sense of conflict here than the “Thundercats crashed on Third Earth and happened to wake-up Mumm-Ra” idea of the old show.[/li][/ul]
And that’s it for now. Like I said earlier, I may not have been crazy about the old show and had a lot of problems with it, but I’m 100% on board with this new one. So count me in!
I doubt it. Whoever leaked it chose a good time, a Saturday on a holiday weekend, knowing it wouldn’t likely be taken down until Tuesday. But I would think they’d get a better buzz going if they aired commercials for it on more channels than just Cartoon Network.
They were my favorites as a kid, but then I identified with them more since they were more my age then.
I think it would be interesting if Mumm-Ra was a mummified Mutant. Though I think it would make for a much more interesting dynamic if he was a mummified ThunderCat who had turned evil.
I will say he does have the “elf ears” like the Thundercats in the new show. You see it if you freeze the frame in the second trailer AND you see it in the production sheet that was in Thunder Thursdays.
I think he could be an ancient cleric gone bad. Since Jaga’s clerics are supposed to be magic users. And that could be why the clerics put more stock in the prophecy than everyone else.
That would be interesting if Mumm-Ra had once been a ThunderCat cleric. To quote Star Wars - perhaps he desired a power that most deemed to be unnatural. Hey, Star Wars did have a good influence on the OS. 
In the comics, they told Mumm-Ra’s origin as an Egyptian priest that called on the ASoE to try and usurp the Pharaoh, but he failed. I can imagine that his new origin could be very similar.
His pointed ears would imply that he’s a Thunderian this time, but I think it could still work if he was human. I guess we’ll find out. I think he’s going to be a much bigger threat this time around.
Honestly I don’t care what the wildstorm comics said. They aren’t cannon IMO. They lost my respect when it was implied the mutants raped Cheetara.
For me it was Sexy Wilykit. There was no need.
If you make Mumm-Ra a ThunderCats gone bad, it will be redundant. Grune is alive and well at the start of this series. No need to have 2 ThunderCats-gone-bad characters.
Not necessarily. It could be interesting if it was Mumm-Ra who somehow turned Grune to the evil side. Kind of Emperor Palpatine (Lord of the Sith) and Anakin Skywalker / Darth Vader in the SW saga.
He looks more like a bat in the face and with the wings he apparently has. He has the same sort of snout that a bat has and bats have those large pointed ears too.
That would definitely be an interesting spin on the series. A once, young Grune being pressured to break the code of Thundera and fall victim to Mumm-Ra’s evil influence. While the premise has been done before, I can honestly see this working.
I don’t think Mumm-Ra was a cleric or a ThunderCat before, just a powerful Thunderian sorcerer. He might not even be that, just something else with pointy ears perhaps.
Anyway, I don’t think Thundera really existed before Mumm-Ra was defeated. I think that before then there were just tribes of them, and then several of them united to stop Mumm-Ra and formed the ThunderCats. From there they created the kingdom of Thundera and began to bring order to the rest of the world.
I think someone mentioned it before, but I think Grune might try to exploit Tygra’s jealousy of Lion-O to get him to join his side.
And as for the Wildstorm comics, while that mini series was pretty bad, I still think a lot of the origin stories in the Heroes and Villains/Villains and Heroes one shots were decent. I almost can’t believe they were written by the same guy though. It’s of little consequence anyway, this series is giving Mumm-Ra a new origin.

Think about it…
Grune in his quest to become the most powerful being ever finds a time portal that takes him back to the ancient past where the ancient powers of evil are hidden. They turn him into Mumm-Ra. So here we are present day. Grune has not yet gone back in time to become Mumm-Ra and no one realizes that he and Mumm-Ra are one and the same. Lion-O learns the truth and finds the way to defeat Mumm-Ra is to defeat Grune before he can go back in time. :eek:
I was thinking of that possibility as well.
I’d be more likely to think Mumm-Ra would do that. Grune wasn’t exactly a subtle manipulator.
Might be. Whoever it is, I think someone will try to turn Tygra’s jealousy to his/her favor.
It depends. I could see Grune being able to manipulate Tygra better because they’re both ThunderCats. I could see Tygra being more resistant to Mumm-Ra because he is an all-out evil guy and I just don’t think Tygra would fall for that with Mumm-Ra.
As for Grune being a subtle manipulator, very little of him was shown in the original and they’re tweeking every other character, his character might be good at that.
