Didn’t like Snarf in the 80’s series, but liked him in the leaked video.
That’s exactly how I feel about Tygra (being a fan of him too). I feel he’s a comletely different character. I know the writers wanted to make him more interesting (don’t understand why though, I never found him lame at all), but this is too much. In the original series, his character was supposed to be based on integrity and the one Lion-O used to turn in for advice, and now he’s just an arrogant guy, far from the original.
Maybe new audiences will find him interesting or attractive now, but I’m afraid his older fans will be somehow disappointed (I know I am).
I’m not worried about the new Tygra and I thought the OS Tygra was perfect.
In the OS, Lion-O was only 10 years old. When he arrived at Third Earth, he was a 10 year old trapped in a man’s body. It benefited his character that Tygra, Cheetara, and Panthro were all older than him because he benefitted from their wisdom and maturity.
In the NS, Lion-O looks to be about 17-20 years old. That makes a huge difference because a persons beliefs are firmly established by the time they are 18 years old. Lion-O in the NS will have more wisdom and maturity than he did in the OS. Tygra and Cheetara have been reduced in age so that they are around the same age as Lion-O which would also drastically affect the way they relate.
The OS also made Tygra their main ThunderCat to reveal flaws in, besides the kittens who had the excuse of being children. The keystone revealed a hidden deep-seated jealousy that Tygra felt towards Lion-O, this new series looks to be building on that. Tygra is younger this go around, it makes sense that he would lack the maturity and wisdom he had in the OS. Though it appears they aren’t going to make him the shy kid he claimed to have been in the OS.
Found it, saw it, loved it :D. It looks to be a promising series. But I am bemused at this clip being a leak since it bears the Cartoon Network symbol. It must have been shown on the channel?
It seems like the leak was on purpose, perhaps to get the buzz going. Like one of those viral videos.
I honestly liked Snarf, didn’t seem like too much of a nuisance. I never liked Kittens in the old show, but they seem interesting in this new take. Tygra is drastically different, but I think I can get used to him. I’d miss his mystic aspect though. I really liked Lion-O’s character, he seems to show sympathy even towards his enemies, which might help down the road when it comes to gaining new allies.
The way Claudus talks about Mumm-Ra seems to suggest that he goes way back, and what was the significance of mentioning him during the training? It does, however, solidify the notion that he is somehow related to them.
I hope they keep the Ancient Spirits Of Evil as an ancient race of Mutants (or simply Plundarians in this incarnation) like was hinted at in the original series.
The Unholy Alliance. When the Mutants enter the tomb chamber of Mumm-Ra’s Pyramid for the first time, they look around at the man beast statues and Monkian says “What do you think? An ancient race of Mutants?”
I also always regard Mumm-Ra himself as an ancient Mutant priest. Even LJN thought this as he is sub titled ‘Evil Mutant’ like the other evil characters…
I honestly never thought of them as mutants. Mumm-Ra was a mummy who lived in a pyramid so the ancient spirit statues just looked like statues of Egyptian gods to me. Most of those gods had animal heads.
Thank you so much. The idea seems plausible, but I personally wouldn’t want the spirits to be ancient race of mutants nor Mumm-Ra to be a mummified mutant. It would be more interesting, well for me anyways, if Mumm-Ra was some old Thunderian priest or cruel king who was overthrown or something to that effect. It would be a good idea to make the spirits something else entirely rather than rooting them in earthly existence.
Mumm-Ra must have had an origin. He must have been mortal at some point.
and the ASOE were living entities, so the statues were much more than potraits of gods to me.
I dislike the idea of Mumm-Ra being related at all to the ThunderCats or their people. To me, its as bad as what they were planning in the canned movie, of Grune becoming Mumm-Ra. If the ASOE and Mumm-Ra are not related to the Mutants race, then fine… but having them related to Thunderians is a really bad idea in my opinion. The good guy gone bad is already done with Grune.
But like I say I’m a fan of the original concepts for the characters.
I always thought that LJN just used the generic term of Mutant for all bad guys. I think both of my MOC Mongors have the “NEW Evil Mutant” sticker on them. Just like Turmagar and Hachiman are listed as Good ThunderCats.
I think the Egyptian backstory makes sense. Pyramid, sarcophagus, mummification, Ancient Spirits of Evil with Egyptian gods’ names. I always figured that the whole “What do you think? An ancient race of Mutants?” line was a random guess by Slithe.
As did I. I mean, Mumm-Ra is without a doubt a mummy from ancient times. Perhaps he was a sorcerer that intended to overthrow the Pharoh and such but was soon arrested and sentenced to mummification.
I don’t see “Crystal Canyon” as revealing Tygra’s jealousy towards Lion-O. If any, it was some jealousy towards everybody who isn’t shy. He didn’t say “I want to be Lord of the TCs”, he said that, as a kid, he felt bad for being shy. So my guess is he always wanted to be more confident (which is contradictory to the fact that he’s a noble TC and a warrior), but not to be lord of the TCs.
They were never really named with Egyptian god names. The only reference to who they were was by Mumm-Ra when he said something like “The statue of the [B]Vulture King[/B]” Which leads me to believe all 4 were ancient Mutant leaders.
It was Monkian wasn’t it? and I disagree. I think it was said as to tie in Mumm-Ra with the Mutants. Though it was never delved into, I actually regard ‘Mongor’ as a Mutant.
There was also one called Nemesis I believe. Though the other two weren’t named. But yeah never had Egyptian names, but shrugs I always figured they just looked like that to fit in with Mumm-Ra’s “theme.”
I also never thought of them as “living entities.” They’re spirits of evil. and they mostly need Mumm-Ra to influence anything in the material world.
