Saw this on Topless Robot this morning. Ocelli and I got a real kick out of it. Some of the choices I thought were kind of strange, but it was still a fun read.
10 80’s Cartoons That Need Thundercats-Quality Reboots
Totally agree on numbers 10, 8, 6, 5 and 1. Don’t know about 9, 4 or 3. And 7 and 2 definitely not! (Though I think 7 might benefit from some more sophisticated stories, come to think of it).
the only ones i liked are bravestarr and d&d. im not sure if they would ever do reboots of them but i have the original series on dvd and they are a couple of my all time faves
Would love to see Gummi Bears, Ghostbusters and a new version of D&D but Jem and the Holgrams? Really?!

I’d like to see Jem, Ghostbusters, Bravestar (loved that show) and overall D&D! I ahve the D&D DVDs.
About Gummy Bears, loved them too, but would be very careful with a reboot. I liked the originals too much and wouldn’t like them to get too “modern”.
I saw that this morning too. I’d love a C.O.P.S. or Bravestarr reboot. I didn’t post the link here though because although it mentions Thundercats, the article isn’t really about Thundercats.

I’d be very interested to see Jem get a reboot. I know Christy Marx, the series creator, has been talking about it off and on for the last few years, and Hasbro’s expressed interest lately in doing something with the property.
It’ll be interesting to see how they can redo it, considering how much the music industry has changed in the last 30 years. And it would be cool if they can get Giorgio Moroder on board and write some really good songs for it.

I’ve never seen most of those shows, but I’m glad the new ThunderCats is being called a success by other places.

Voltron they’re already doing with Voltron Force on Nicktoons. It’s…decent. But nowhere near as good as the new TCats, IMO.
Silverhawks I think will inevitably get its own reboot, probably as a spinoff of Thundercats.
I’d definitely love to see more Robotech!
I know there’s been talk of a live action movie in development, but I’d much rather see a continuation of the story that began in The Shadow Chronicles.
As for Tranzor Z, I’d much rather see a faithful translation of the original anime, Mazinger Z. I ordered a couple of copies that came from Hong Kong and Malaysia, and the English language subtitles are dodgy to say the least. I don’t know why any of the American anime distribution companies have done this yet. I’ve actually been contemplating doing my own fansub of it, but I need someone who’s fluent in Japanese to help me do the translating.
And most of those shows I didn’t watch.
At my job we joke a lot about remakes, constant jokes involve Jem. Watched an episode of it on the Hub. I believe some people need to take of the nostalgia glasses. But that’s me.
Frankly the only 80’s show who I want a real reboot for is Voltron. Damn Nicktoons for loving the halfassed. Had they allowed for it to have the same budget Legend Of Korra is getting, ThunderCats would be having hard competition right now.
The other show would be He-Man, simply because it deserves it. Specially after how the 200X show was treated. I actually enjoyed that show. =/
Maybe Ghostbusters too…I’d love a new telling of the concept.
EDIT: Hell, on the topic of Jem. If they can tackle it in a similar vein as MLP was tackled for it’s new series. Then awesome. Lol.
A lot of them sound intriguing depending on how they were done. It would be interesting to see what kind of changes they would make. Would Jem become a Lady Gaga-esque singer? Would Bravestarr have to be a modern cop? Be curious.

Never heard of it. The only thing I heard of as a kid called Dungeons and Dragons was a game which I never played.
9) The Real Ghostbusters
I liked this cartoon as a kid. I would be more interested in seeing them making a new movie more than re-inventing the cartoon.
8) C.O.P.S.
I know I watched it but I don’t remember it. I do remember that line though after all these years, “Fighting crime in a future time.” I had no idea it was from this cartoon.
7) TaleSpin
Um… Maybe they didn’t notice, but this was not an 80’s cartoon, it was a 90’s cartoon. It aired from 1990-1994. I was certain this show came on after I was old enough not to be interested in it. I turned 13 in 1990.

Um… Doesn’t look familar to me at all. I might not have ever watched this one. The fighting horse looks ridiculous to me.

Awesome, I totally agree. I did watch and enjoy this cartoon as a kid.
I would like to the 80’s cartoon Rainbow Brite and The Littles revitalized. I would also like to see the 60’s cartoon The Space Kidettes revitalized.
Also, they have to take a thinly-veiled pot shot at Miley Cyrus before the end of the pilot.

I agree and Mattel really shot themselves in the foot by not distributing the action figures well. This led to poor sales which led to the end of the series. :mad:

I’d watch a reboot of Jem, but I think I’d miss all the funny 80s outfits! But it was a really fun show, and one of my favorites when I was younger.
Real Ghostbusters I’m iffy on. If they could do it well, yes, I’d love it. That was one of my absolute favorite shows of the time. I was pretty disappointed with Extreme Ghostbusters, though. There were a couple of concepts in it that I liked, but overall, it had nothing on the original, which is still fun to watch even if it is obviously dated now.
I was a big fan of some of the Disney Afternoon shows, but Gummi Bears was not one of them. Never really cared for that. It was something I watched only if nothing else was on. Give me Darkwing Duck or DuckTales over that any day. (And yeah, Tale Spin was a '90s show, not '80s. The only DA shows that were actual 80s 'toons were DuckTales, Gummi Bears, and maybe Rescue Rangers (I think that came out the season before Tale Spin, so '89?) I’m pretty sure.)
Hasbro plans on unveiling a new line of Jem dolls at the New York Comic Con. Since Ocelli and I will be there, we’ll try to take a look and describe what we see. And hopefully we can snap a pic, too!
We definitely need a TC quality MOTU reboot. There is so much potential for a darker grittier He-Man.

The TMNT need a proper reboot, one that will combine all the good stuff about their previous incarnations.
It must include Krang as well as Turtles with irises!
