Your ideal ThunderCats video game?

What with the talk of having TC on the DS, I thought it would be a good opportunity to discuss what would be the perfect video game of ThunderCats be?

I’ve posted this in the classic series because at the moment it’s such an expansive universe compared to the NS.

Way back in 2004, I had a fantastic idea of someone doing an Unreal Tournament 2004 ThunderCats Total Conversion mod (a TC TC mod!). Obviously it’ be UT3 now, but anyway..

On there, you could choose to be on the side of the TC (obviously), Mutants or the Lunataks [not sure how Mumm-Ra would fit in], and we could have a 3-way battle of all kinds of modes (like Capture the Flag, Death Match/Team Death Match - and especially Vehicle Onslaught - etc.); the maps would be awesome to play in as well!

Other ideas of course would be having a ThunderCats RPG game, or even do a beat-em-up!

There are endless possibilities of game types you could do with ThunderCats - it’s all just waiting there for someone to make them! Of course, for that to happen now, it’d need to be based on the NS for obvious reasons.

Any thoughts?

edit Just thought: would this fit in “Collectables and Merchandise” more than here? I’m not entirely sure where the best place for this thread to be is.

Here’s my idea for one.

To be more specific to what Ocelli said, the idea was for it to have been an FPS set in the continuity of our own TCats fanfiction. The Shadris are an elite class of spies/commandos exclusively trained under the Ocelot clan; sort of like the Navy SEALs, Special Forces or the Israeli Mossad. It was also partially inspired by the Jedi Knight games from LucasArts and Star Trek Voyager: Elite Force.

We thought instead of you playing as an established character, it would be more interesting to play as an original character and simply rub elbows with characters from the show. From an FPS standpoint this was more liberating, as it would have allowed you to use the arsenal of weapons most FPSes at the time allowed you to carry. Some of them would have been inspired by the show, such as the Lunatak Gravity Carbine which either would have had your enemies float helplessly or pin them to the ground. The Mutant Heavy Rifle would have been your standard shotgun-type weapon, the Thunderian Laser Rifle would have been your rapid fire assault rifle, etc. We also would have had a unique Shadris weapon modeled after the katar for stealth and melee attacks.

During the course of the game, you would periodically run into some of the Thundercats characters, who in the game would function as NPCs, and they would accompany you into battle and use their own special powers to help you. Lion-O would use the Sword of Omens to blast or cut through otherwise impenetrable obstacles, Tygra would use his invisibility and powers of illusion to silently take out enemies, Cheetara would use her super speed to quickly take out groups of enemies, Panthro would act like a tank in an MMO, and Wily Kat and Kit would use smoke, ball bearings and flashbang grenades to confuse enemies.

We thought the game could have used either the Unreal or the Quake III engine, since it was put to such good use in the games I mentioned earlier. The problem though was I lacked the know-how to actually create a mod as I wasn’t familiar with the editor and didn’t even have the artistic skills to pull it off. But I still thought it would have been a cool idea.

The idea is probably still viable, as we’re still interested in doing the fanfic. And with today’s Unreal engine and modding tools for games like Skyrim and Fallout 3, we could probably make a version that would be even better than what we could have imagined back then. We just need someone who could help with the artwork and programming.

My ideal ThunderCats video game would be a crossover between the 1985 and 2011 universes as the result of a temporal rift. It would be set during the original series’ first season and during the 2011 series.

I dunno, I think it’d be a gyp to have a Thundercats game and not be able to play the Thundercats!

Simialar to lady ocelli, I’d love a vast open world rpg. But I’d have the main character as liono, with the quest to rebuild Thunderian society and unite the races. It fits in with the current cartoon arc, and has a lot of scope for side quests and meeting the other characters, major and minor. It would also be awesome to go on a joyride in the tank!!!

There could also be an option to go back to the tower of omens and switch characters at certain points to play certain missions differently. Ie cheetara could speed through one particular obstacle but Liono would have to find a clever way around or something.

But with that in mind, I do like the idea of creating an original character from scratch too, with the player choosing gender, cat race, characteristics, etc, and building up stats as they go. The game could be played as a Thunderian citizen working their way up to Thundercat as they help the cats to rebuild and unite.

But I still think you can’t beat the classic side scroller commodore 64 game which was tied in with a comic! Awesome! I’m such a geek!

I’d see it like God of War style.

I’d like it to be a massive open world rpg game, but one in which you have the option for story, and then freeplay, the storyline would allow you to use the canonical Cat’s and perhaps even allow you to play as the forces of darkness. To tell a story, or perhaps play as the good guys once, and then the bad guys the other time, or vice versa, to get the whole story line.

Free play would allow you to create your own character, on a different set of missions, and whatnot, perhaps playing online with friends where they download different themes from time to time.

I want it to be in motion-capture or CGI! Kinda like the new Star Wars Kinect game!

Good idea, that could work.

Nothing will ever top this.

Sure brings back good memories, that one!

In response to the original post, I would personally realy like to see a “Street Fighter 2” type of game with Thundercats characters (both good and bad). You could either play against the computer or against a friend. Each character would have a set of special moves based on their powers in the cartoon series like:

Lion-O could shoot bolts out of his sword (like Ryu) and be able to shoot out a line from the claw shield and pull the opponent towards him for some pounding!

Tygra could disappear and reappear infront or behind his opponent (like Dhalsim) and also trip his foe using the bolo whip,

Cheetara’s moves could be similar to Chun-Li’s and Panthro’s to Zangief’s

Does that look like a miniature version of Grune to you there?

Never played that one

Me either because I had a game console made by Texas Instruments.
