We are looking at expanding into different areas and were thinking of publishing and printing our very own Thundercats toys price guide, updated regularly. The demand for it would have to be in place in order to take on such a project. The only way to know what the demand is for such would have to be if you the fan would like to see such a project become reality.
So let your voice be heard if you would like a printed price guide. Its the only way to know.

The price guide would have to list every variation of each figure. not like the typical price guide thats says all mumm-ra figures are worth $96.00 (lol)

I do agree, however some variations may be harder to assess a price on it, being that some are rarely seen. Its a project that could take a while but it is indeed very much within reach.
The Thundercats collecting community really hasnt had anything like a complete price guide and usually the prices are for your standard figures like Lion O or Lion O with Sanrf but it doesnt take into account red or orange hair.
I’m interested. Its gonna be quite a guide given all the varients. Are there gonna be pics as well?
My initial thought was to have it with pictures but that would mean extra costs and therefore would increase the price we would have to charge for it. Currently, book contents with the company we may be going with are printed in black and white only.
Printing a book is in itself a big project and if we were to bring something like that to collectors it would have to be in the most effective and economical way possible. Updating quarterly would be a task in itself because we would have to constantly gather information.
For this post, “time is money” applies, so costs are in both $ and hours…Printing a book is expensive. Much like dollars, every hour you spend should be worth it. If you’re going to do it, do it right. You don’t want to waste either time or money by putting out something that isn’t any good. Printing a book for such a small niche audience might be a one time only thing, if that. If the Plan is to do a quaterly publication on such a niche topic, without pictures…just stick to doing a webpage. If you want to publish a BOOK, do it once and do it REALLY REALLY good. Make it the end all beall of thundercats BOOKS. Invest your time and money wisely and make a book people will shell out $29.95 to buy. Interviews, images, histories…Everything. Have a ton of big color photos and plan so that when the new animated movie hits, your book is on the shelves at every barnes and noble and boarders in the country. Like a NICE 200 page coffee table “BOOK”. Like that Batman: The Animated Series book…the Chip Kidd one. Get the right people on board and do it right.
If you DO want to get into the quarterly or monthly publication side of things, and its more about that plan to go after a much larger market. You’d release one book and realize its not going to go much further…The distribution system is complicated and without distribution, no one is going to be able to buy the publication. There are two types of print distribution that will cover something like this: Newstand and Diamond. Read what Val Staples wrote on that poor man’s guide to self publishing. Everything he is talking about is comic based, but you can take out comics and replace the item with just about anything else. In this case, a magazine. He talks about advertising printing costs and everything…even about selling X number of a product before you cover the cost to produce it.
Yes, there is a third type of distribution-where you make 100 of something because you want to do it all cheap, and a few people buy it, but in the end, your time is worth more than that.
What you’re talking about brings back memories of 1997 in picture below. If you want me to tell you exactly what I did, I would be happy to, but I would recomend doing things differently with a focus on trying to make something that more people would buy. I’ll tell you how I did, the cost, where I went, how I sold it, what went wrong, what went right. etc. I never got to do issue number two.
And bro…you should be on a plane down to Florida RIGHT NOW. FX Show this all weekend. UXW Wrestling Saturday night. They’re even having wrestling matches AT the fx show this year. Like a ring set up and matches during the show.

for the tips, I know its a big project but and its something that has to be planned out just right. i like the idea of price guide but like you say with such a small following now is it even worth it to do a quarterly publication. Perhaps aroud the movie timeframe.

I agree with Andrew, I would love to buy a complete action figures collection book, rather than a price guide (of course I would buy the price guide as well). You guys already have such an awesome detailed toy guide on this site, seeing all that in print with all the pictures would be such a treat 
and will definitely sell out quickly.

Stephen Sansweet’s “From Concept to Screen to Collectible” and “Star Wars: The Action Figure Archive”
and John Kellerman’s Vintage Star Wars Action Figures: A Guide for Collectors.
Of course even if you guys got the money and time to publish this book, I am worried about not getting the proper licensing rights from LJN and WB, since WB will have their own plans to distribute merchandise and grant licenses to various publications for the feature film release.
