At last a game that delivered. Very few games during this world cup have gripped me, but this one was brilliant. Once France equalised at 1-1 it was always going to be a classic. Building up to half time and the entire second half both teams locked horns. Eventually France broke through with a free-kick delivered by Henry and a backpost header from Viera. At 2-1 Spain lifted their game once again desperate to score. After pressing up on the final minutes, Spain were caught on the break and Zidane scored the best game of the night.
I was glad to see Zidane score and probably glad that France won.. Can’t wait to see France V Brazil in the quarters.. This world cup is really warming up now.. some fantastic fixtures on the horizon!!

I thought I would suffer a heart attack during this game. After Argentina scored their first goal I just knew, that this game would end with a penalty kick shootout…and so it did!
God, this is so important for my country, not just for the soccer-world but for the people. This is the first time that Germans realize that it is ok to be proud of their country and their flag!
I know, I am just writing nonsense right now, but I am just happy, happy, happy! :drinking:

Oh, I forgot, did anyone who saw the match know, why they started to fight after the end of the match? What was the reason for it? I didn’t quite get that!

I think Italy got the easiest draw in the quarters.. At least they played a bit more attacking and didn’t sit back on their 1-0 lead..
In answer to your question about the fight at the end… no footage has been released but many sites and the commentators after the game were saying this kind of thing..

Ok I can just about bring myself to review this game.. I was expecting to have to write an analysis of our defeat, but I didn’t expect a game like that.
Portugal were rubbish…so rubbish, they made us looks slightly ok-ish!
Rooney deserved to be sent off.. and we were unlucky a few times that we did not score.. Once we reached extra time I knew it was game over, but even then we held strong… and then it was PENALTIES
What can I say about England and penalties that is not outright obvious! We just can not score penalties. The penalty shoot out reflected our whole tornament.. Gerrard and Lampard’s penalties were equally poor..(as were there performances this world cup) and the one we did score only just went in..(reflecting our form throught the world cup..ONLY JUST)
Even with Portugal playing poor and missing two penalties in the shoot out we couldn’t win..
Therefore In my opinion we did not deserve to progress..

Wow, France kicked out Brazil…
I dont know how the game was, I didnt see it, but when I got back home I was a little bit surprised that Brasil has to go home.

About England - Portugal…I totally agree with you Kyle…Portugal didnt play good at all, but at the end they had more luck.
But what I will never understand is, how can you miss the goal during a penalty kick? I understand if the keeper holds it, but how can you miss the whole damn box?

Honestly its not ability…I watch most of the England players each week score fantastic goals…Gerrard (who missed a penalty for us today) he scored from almost the half way line with a power drive..and yet tonight he couldn’t score from the spot.. So its not ability…its nerves..
The English just seem to get so nervous when it comes to penalties that they take poor shots..We have lost so many times on penalties now.. we seem to be defeated before we even take them now..
The France Brazil game was great.. Zidane was world class as always..and Henry did his thing and scored a great goal.. France deserved it overall… They will walk it against Portugal..

That was a fantastic match to watch as a neutral.. Both teams deserved to go through, but 2 absolutley fantastic goals from Italy decided it. I can not stress how brilliant the two goals were. Having played almost 120 minutes of football, two of the most skillful moves and accurate finishes I have seen this world cup. A pleasure to watch. Wanted Germany to win, but think that Italy deserved it for those two goals alone. Very much in the mood for Portugal and France now!!
Hmm…what can I say…we lost, even though we really deserved to win! The guys played awesome soccer and were just unlucky at the end. Yes, those goals were great and they brought Italy through.
But I have to say one thing, it was absolutely ridiculous what happened to Thorsten Frings after the italian media insisted on getting him punished for the stuff that happened after the match with Argentina. There was no reason for that and if any nation would have had the right to insist on a punishment it would have been Argentina, but they didnt do that because they were the ones starting the whole thing! That was not very fair but oh well, it happened! Just had to get that off my mind. Now everything is fine
I am still very proud of my team and what they did for the German nation
Now I keep my fingers crossed for Portugal and hopefully they will win the whole thing :pumyraveryhappy:

Italy won in the Penalty Kick Shootout with 6-4 I believe, after being tied 1-1.
I didnt enjoy the game, thought it was quite boring!
The match for the 3rd place was much more interesting…not just because Germany played and won, more because both teams just played great soccer and it was fun to watch!

What a way to go out. Zidane is retiring after the tourney and the only thing people will remember he did in this World Cup is his headbutt. I do have to admit though that he looked like a ram

Sorry it took so long to post about this game..been quite busy. Ok.. I really wanted this game to be all about Zidane, which it was But not in the way I had wanted. I agree with Manny in a way, It was an awsome headbutt lol, but it really was a shame he did it in the Final in his last ever game. I was quite gutted when I saw it especially after he scored in the first half… After he did that I straight away decided I wanted Italy to win instead. Which they did..

As I reviewed here.. Spain France - 3 Spain - 1.. a thrilling match with action, goals and the first showing of the real france. I expected Spain and was blown away to see them beaten.

Minus the headbutting incident it deffinately has to be Zidane. Many thought he was past his best and this was a tornament too far, but he once again stood out from the rest. Amazing player, but as usual, the best have floors.
Favourite Moment
From an English view point, there were very few memorable moments. The only time I screamed with excitment was when Joe Cole scored a long range volley against Sweeden. I was so shocked when it flew in:)
So I guess thats it…all I can say is roll on Euro 2008
