Hey guys. I know a lot of people say demand exceeded supply as far the thundercats figures go but thinking about it, back in the early 90s even late 80s my mum was always buying me new toys and amazingly i never owned a thundercats figure. I had everything from that era…ghostbusters, TMNT and im not talking about one or two figures im talking about everything there was to buy from those lines, yet thundercats, were where they? I remember my mum always saying she never seen any thundercats figures and being from N Ireland part of the UK i would of thought we would have had a good supply but i cant remember nothing, not one single iota (obviously there were figures for sale over here but where were they?) Even collectors like yourselves think about it, why was there such small numbers of tongue a sauruses, moat monsters etc compared to other playsets and vehicles for sale?
I think the biggest period for availability of the toys in the UK was autumn 1988. I live in a small town myself and there wasn’t and still isn’t any toy shops here. The closest is the next town which back in the day had a Woolworths, Argos and Co-op department store. But we only went there once every couple of months tops (and I was only 7, so couldn’t go without my mum or dad) So I kinda missed a lot of them.
During that period ( 1988 ), me and my brother got the following: Lion-O (one each from Blackpool on holiday!), Mumm-Ra, Monkian (one each) Jackalman, Vultureman, Tygra, Panthro (one each), Cheetara, Wilykit, Wilykat, Tuska Warrior, Berbil Belle, Berbil Bert, Skycutter, Nosediver, Thunderclaw, Hovercat.
We never saw SSSlithe, Snarf, Berbil Bill, Ma-Mutt, Ratar-O, Snowman, Hachiman, Thundertank, Fist Pounder, Mumm-Ra’s Tomb or Cats Lair’s at retail during this period. Infact we had to pretend our Orko figure was Snarf and Kobra Khan was Ssslithe! 
During this time we also never saw any of the series 3 figures.
Then the next time I got Thundercats was in 1992! It seemed Woolworths were selling them off. During this period I got: Jaga, Cheetara (again as first broke) Safari Joe, Captain Shiner, Ma-Mutt, Snarf, Wilykit, Wilykat, Skycutter (wanted a second one!), Nosediver (first one broke), Sword of Omens, Thundertank. I did see Hachiman, Captain Crackerand Astral Moat Monster but wasn’t interested in them.
So items I’ve never seen for sale at retail at all: Cats Lair, Mumm-Ra’s Tomb, Fist Pounder, Ratar-O, Snowman, Berbil Bill, Driller, The Stinger, Lynx-O, Pumyra and Ben-Gali.
But like I said, I had limited access to visiting toy stores. We basically only went when I was allowed a new toy. I’d be interested in hearing others availability stories!
Probably i must be the only one in this forum who never had the pleasure as a kid to see and purchase Thundercats figures from the shelves of Toy stores. This thing still gripes my soul:lionomad::D. I live in Athens, the capital and largest city of Greece but i really don’t remember seeing any Thundercats toys when visiting a toyshop…The one and only Thundercats LJN product i owened was the Sword of Omens(i have the picture in my Collector’s Showcase!) and this was a present at my birthday, so i don’t know from which toy shop it came from…
I know I owned a few Thundercats figures as a child, but I want to say that most of them came my way as second-hand garage sale toys. I grew up in a town of 30,000 in Oklahoma, USA. There was a Kay-Bee Toys Store there and I can remember seeing Thundercats figures on the rack, though I can’t remember specifics of which figures it was.
The only Thundercats figures i had the pleasure to get MOC and open them as a kid, were in Christmas of 1989. My Uncle was studying in England and brought to me as a present (it must have been from Argos because i remember the Catalogue) one Lion-o and one Mumm-ra!!!Needless to say how happy i was,aside from that i had none other,until 15 years later:lionomad:
I also figured the lack of supply of TC figs was do to them not selling as well as lines like MOTU
This is quite strange, you probably didn’t search enough!
I remember growing up in the Ambelokipi area in Athens and a shop called “Pagosmio” had pretty much everything until its closure in 1994.
I bought every single character apart from the new Thundercats (they were probably never available in Greece)… also, I always wanted Grune and the Cats Lair but they only had a few in stock and I missed them =(
But indeed, apart from that I was able to collect them all easily from 1989 to around 1993. Additionally, a store in Pagrati and one in Kipseli had most of the figures till the mid 90s when they closed.
Growing up in Ontario Canada, I remember seeing a toy isle full of TC along with Transformers and Gijoe all on Canadian cards of course. Wish I had s time machine to tell my younger self a few things

Even though my hometown and the area where i grew up is very close in Ambelokipi,specifically in Exarhia, i don’t recall any of the Toy shops you mentioned.
The cartoon was originally aired in our country in 1987, i think around the same period the LJN figures arrived in Greece too. At that time i was only 3 years old so i couldn’t remember many things. Later, during the early 90s i had a range of figures from other famous Cartoon Series like Transformers, TMNT or MOTU but i don’t believe Thundercats were ever equally popular and in such abundance at the local stores. At least i hadn’t seen any at ‘Jambo’, ‘Toys Academy’, ‘Minion’.
Probably, this occurred due to the European as well as Worldwide growing demand for Thundercats toys.
Hey, dr_slump i assume you must be a bit older and you are more familiar than me with the availability of Thundercats in Greece, please feel free and let us know. I was always interested in this issue. Some friends have told me that they were indeed sold in Greece but in limited quantities and selected stores.
