I wish I could vote for more than one, but if I had to go with a favorite right now, it would be Lion-O. The NS version of the character is one I can really get behind and to some degree identify with. And since he’s the main hero of the show, that’s really important. The OS Lion-O I could hardly stand, and had a really hard time thinking of him as any sort of believable hero. He just had this sort of overconfidence and arrogance about him that - in the way Larry Kenney voiced him - made him sound really insufferable. (Although in some cases, that can be made to be funny. The title character in the Deathspank series of games sounds almost exactly the same way, though since the game is a comedy, it works better).
While the NS Lion-O does suffer that same flaw, it’s not as pronounced enough do be a deal-breaker. And the character as a whole by comparison is pretty understated. Plus Will Friedle is a very likable actor, and that likability carries over into his performance as Lion-O. So in summary, this new Lion-O is someone who, as a protagonist, is someone I can care about and root for.
I also like Wily Kit and Kat too (though slightly lean more towards Kit). I really like the NS depiction of them as junior street urchins/thieves, and I’m hoping we’ll get to see more episodes focusing on them in the future.
Hahaha, well he’s definitely charming and at times arrogant, but it’s nice to see he’s noble too and not just pretty to look at, Tygra comes off callous sometimes but he’s really just a normal big brother, sibling rivalry and protective instincts completely intact. Loving how much he seems to look out for the twins wellbeing and Snarf’s.
Not only that how many people do you know that walk around in what amounts to speedos and a tank top and actually command respect?
Seriously though old Lion-O was pretty corny and at times insufferable. This new Lion-O is way more nuanced. He’s still arrogant at times for sure but he has the weight of the entire kingdom on his shoulders so we should cut him some slack on that. Plus he is on a mission to avenge his murdered father so you have to root for him.
He is also very thoughtful as evidenced by his treatment of the lizards in the pilot episode. He has the wisdom to recognize the value of technology before any of the other TCs do.
Tygra has always been my favorite. In the OS and now in the new series. I can’t wait for them to flesh out his character more instead of having such a heavy Lion-O based story for the moment.
I have been coming to this forum for a while now and finally desided to join. I have liked the original series since the 80’s and had mixed feelings about them doing a new series but once I saw the character designs I was hooked.
Oh yeah my favorites are the twins(in both series) but you could only vote for one so I voted for Wilykit. also the order for the new one would be:
When I was a kid, I liked Kit more than Kat, but I liked them both the best over all the characters, I think just because they were kids and I could relate to them better. As I got older, I felt more sympathy for Kat because Kit could really seem to be a bully to him at times. In this new version, they’ve subdued that in Kit more so she’s actually a lot nicer to her brother, Kat, however, seems to be more the bully now. Not really, but moreso than Kit. He was the one who dared her to kiss a frog and then made fun of her for it. I would have expected that to be something more Kit would have done to Kat in the OS. So a little bit of a role reversal.
I see what you say about the Kit-Kat (not the chocolate bar lol) role reversal.
On the other hand Kat is very preotecive and nice to his sister. Remember what he told her when talking about Eldara? He was making himself responsible for her.
In the OS Kat was nice and funny, but sometimes, for me, he came across a little bit annoying because of how silly he could get. Kit was the toughest there.
Is it wrong that I tend to count Wiley Kit and Wiley Kat as one whole character because anything that happens to one, happens to the other as well usually. lol
