Who Would You Like to Voice Mumm-Ra in the Cartoon Network T-CATS series?

Mumm-Ra has (and will always be) one of my all-time favorite villains. In addition to providing voices for several other central characters throughout the series, the late Earl Hammond delivered Mumm-Ra’s voice with such an ingenious passion. Everytime I watch an episode, I’m in awe of those insanely guttural tones he’d reach; almost as if he were sucking his words through a straw.–And who could ever forget that classic maniacal laugh?! To this day, his voice remains unrivaled & irreplaceable.

However, with the new Cartoon Network Thundercats reboot on its way, the fact that another voice actor will take the helm of this extraordinary character is inevitable. Are there any voice actors (famous or not) you would like to see breathe new life into Third Earth’s infamous ever-living sorcerer?

My vote is for Frank Welker.

The man is a legend in the industry & has been known to immitate everything from animals (at various ages mind you), to inanimate objects like bubbles, creeking doors, and of course human beings. He’s even jokingly immitated the legendary voice of Lorenzo Music! (which anyone who’s a fan of The Real Ghostbusters or Garfield and Friends can tell you was another one-of-a-kind vocal talent). I figure someone with that level of skill & years of experience could tap into all the qualities we loved about Earl Hammond’s voice and could still make it his own.

It’s hard to image anyone but Earl Hammond voicing Mumm-Ra, but Welker is a great choice. To be honest, I’d rather see a brand new villain and have the show stay on Thundera. That way I could treat it as a continuation of the classic cartoon.

Nah, you have to have Mumm-Ra and the mutants in the new show. Be cool if they introduced new Mutants in addition to Ssslithe, Monkian, Jackalman, Vultureman and Ratar-O!

It needs to be a complete reboot. A continuation will be bad I think.

I agree, but I was hoping I could pretend it was a continuation. If it begins with an adult Lion-O on Thundara, I could act like the story is continuing. I guess that won’t really work though.

Seeing new mutants in addition to the old would be really cool! I like that idea. What sort of animals should they be based off of?

Well it be cool to see some that are from the same races as the Man Beast Statues/Ancient Spirits of Evil. It would be great to have a back story of the 4 ancient mutants teaming up and explaining how the ASOE are tied to them…yes I want to an episode about the Vulture King…and also want to find out what the other Man Beasts are called! I’m hoping the new cartoon covers a lot of ground the classic show never touched upon.

Voice-acting wise.. anybody. As long as it was a proper, genuine portrayal. and not some crappy rip-off, I’d support anybody. Frank Welker’s a great voice-actor but it really takes some intensity and madness to pull that one off. You’d need a Mark Hamill like voice-actor to pull it off. So it’s anybody’s game, I guess. Personally, I’d love Kevin Conroy (the voice of Bruce Wayne/Batman for ‘Batman: Animated Series’) to get a role in the show. Seeing as he works very well with Warner Bros. and is extremely talented, this would be awesome.

You know what, I’ve been watching The Clone Wars cartoon recently, and I really liked Cad Bane’s voice. I don’t know who did it, but I think something along those lines might be good for Mumm-Ra.

I could see Kevin Conroy as Tygra. Doesn’t have the same pitch, but his inflection as Batman in the animated series is still in the same calm calculating genius ballpark.

Other than Tony Todd, I think Terrence Carson would make a great re-imaged voice for Panthro. He did the voice of Kratos in the God of War games. I think Todd would be closer to Hyman and a more traditional cast, but if they chose a new edgier bad attitude direction for the character, I could get behind T.C. voicing him. His voice made Kratos.

Been thinking about Mumm-Ra and that is a tough voice to cast. I honestly don’t have any better suggestion than Frank Welker for the time being. I don’t really know if I could hear him as Mumm-Ra (a much better fit for him is Megatron) but, again I can’t think of anyone better off the top of my head.
