I think it goes without saying that each of the episodes of Season one made certain Thundercats look bad (mainly a certain Lion). So this thread is about pointing them out and discussing why they made these Thundercats look bad
Lion-O
The Pilot episodes: Lion-O was getting insulted and mocked at every turn, and it was all just for being who he is
Ramlak Rising: Lion-O was portrayed in that episode as being vindictive to the point of forgetting about the needs of people who need him, while everyone else was portrayed with having a clear head. With this episode in mind, Lion-O can’t even say that he would’ve been nicer to Kit and Kat than that fat Cat the duo robbed in the pilot.
Song of the Petalars: They made it so that Lion-O was feeling cowardly at the time and was unwilling to fight. Which makes Tygra the one in the right because he actually wanted to fight. Tygra even said that Emrick was making a mistake for admiring Lion-O. What’s more, it was considered a good thing that Lion-O lead the Cats into a battle that they likely would not have won.
Old Friends: Panthro was giving Lion-O a hard time for practically no reason and that flashback scene with Lion-O and Tygra as cubs really wasn’t favoring Lion-O.
The Duelist and the Drifter: The basic issue within the plot, enough said
Sight Beyond Sight: Not only did they start the episode off with Lion-O sounding impatient and with that scene right before the race. But they also made it so he needs Anet to advise him on how to use the Sword. And then, when it looked like he was doing a good deed, they make it so that in doing so, he majorly screwed up.
Episode 11 (I forget the name): I didn’t see the whole episode, but considering the way it started out, I’m certain that this was yet another episode where Lion-O was made to look inexperienced while everyone else was made to look more mature. And the worst part of it is I’m starting to see the point of those who thought that Lion-O’s “May the best Cat win” comment might have sounded sexist. No matter how i look at it, it just does.
Into the Astral Plane: Not only do they make Tygra speak out against Lion-O’s plan, but they even make it so that his plan does fail while Tygra’s idea worked. The worst part was that i actually somehow got that “Because i studied military strategies with Father while you goofed off” comment of Tygra’s
Between Brothers: In addition to not even letting Lion-O have this one victory over Tygra, but Lion-O also gets burned at the very end. Why is it that Tygra gets away with his treatment of Lion-O, and gets practically no comeuppance for it, all because of one last minute act kindness?
New Alliances: This episode started out more or less okay, since it gave the impression that Lion-O wasn’t going to make a big deal about what happened in “Between Brothers”. But no, they had to make it a big deal and Lion-O had to be the one at fault here. Heaven forbid that anything bad should happen to Tygra and Cheetara.
Trials of Lion-O part One: Not only does the episode start with the all of the TCats second-guessing Lion-O and then chastising him at every turn with little remorse, but the kittens and Cheetara both chastise Lion-O during the first two trials without a hint of sympathy for him. In the following episode, you could tell by Panthro’s tone that he was just kidding around with Lion-O, but Cheetara and the Kittens were really just blaming Lion-O.
The Pit: Lion-O gets blamed for the misfortune for his people and is nearly killed for it by a Cat who shouldn’t even be on first name basis with him. A Cat he was trying to free, i might add. Yeah, you could argue that Lion-O does have a responsibility to his people, but keep in mind that he was out there risking his life trying to make sure that Mumm-Ra didn’t get his hands on the coveted Book of Omens (something that Tygra, Cheetara and even Jaga all told him to do right away) and that he didn’t get his hands on the precious stones that would’ve allowed him the power to destroy Third Earth and everyone on it. Also, you should keep in mind that Lion-O wasn’t very popular among his fellow Cats, so honestly, he had no real reason to want to help any of them. I know that i certainly wouldn’t have been eager to help the very people who thought i was a fool and was unfit to lead. In fact, if i were in Lion-O’s shoes, i would have just ignored the Cat slaves and went for the SoP. The Cats made their bed by treating the other Animals badly, now they’re finally getting their comeuppance. And Pumyra certainly wasn’t worth sparring, i probably would have just killed her and got out of there.
Birth of the Blades: Pumyra’s comment about Lion-O having alot to make up for was just hurtful. Why would Lion-O want to help someone like that, i’d say keep the sword safe from Mumm-Ra’s forces would have been more important than saving someone like that.
What Lies Above Part two: We all know how that went over; Lion-O got betrayed, had his heart broken into little tiny pieces and was mocked for even having those emotions at all. No one even bothers to feel sorry for him. Kit’s approach does not count
Yes, i know that these are mainly just Lion-O’s bad episodes, but i’ll think of some for the other Cats if given the time, what about you?
