As the title says. Which carded figure would you consider to be the rarest. Give your thoughts as to why you think its the rarest!!! For me the rarest carded figure to find is a 8 back Cheetara without Wilykit. Why you may ask? There has never been to my knowledge one single 8 back Cheetara without Wilykit to surface on Ebay or anywhere for that matter, I have never even seen a picture of a carded sample. This is closely followed by Luna Lasher Mumm-Ra and then Thunderwings Lion-O. So lets hear your personal choices.

hmmm interesting I voted for mummra. As I have never seen one for sale just pics of one, but then again I have never seen the 8back cheetara alone either (pics or anything). I have heard stories of it though. Its prob in some huge collectors hands and we will never see it. Although I think that they (LL mumra and single 8back cheetara) have the same rarity/scaricity. I would also have voted for a Felina moc (never seen one and only have seen 3 loose ones of which I own one). I’ll be interested in hearing everyones reasoning here.
Do we even know that an 8 back Cheetara alone was produced if nobody’s ever seen it? I can prove the Luna Lasher Mumm-ra exists because I’ve seen the loose figure - but I can’t use the same logic to distinguish one Cheetara from another. If we’re talking strictly MOC - I have to agree with Matt. I’ve never seen either of the LL Mumm-ra or 8 back Cheetara alone, so they’d be equally scare IMHO.
Matt, you have a Feliner??? When, where, and how much was that gem (if you don’t mind my asking)?? Also, I’m under the impression that there is no such thing as a MOC Feliner. The ones that are circulating are prototypes, as it was never produced. I do not think that they ever made packaging for it.
The thing about 8 back Cheetaras is that there is no actual picture circulating around so the most likelyscenario is that it is in some private collection. If they made Tygra alone and Tygra with Wilykat then it is only fiitng that they made her all by herself not just with Wilykit. Usually they made the characters by themselves first before they added any sort of companion to it, thats just my best guess. There are very few pictures of LL Mumm-Ra’s circling around the net. We were lucky to get one from an actual collector that was kind enough to submit it to us.
As far as the Feliner goes to my knowledge there is possibly 3-4 out there, thats just speculation and we know for a fact there is one out there in someone’s collection. As far as packaging goes there was no actual packagin made to our knowledge however we did acquire pictures of prototype art that was intended to be used for the Feliner as well as some of the other unproduced items. It is rumored that there are actually about 2-3 Mad Bubblers floating out there in someone’s private collection. That one of them was red another in orange color and another yellow, and that they were sold privately for 3-4K for the red one and about 3K for the yellow one. This was information given to me by a known prototype dealer out of New Jersey. I inquired mutliple times to get further information even tried to get the owners to submit any pictures but nothing turned up so whatever information I got should really be taken with a grain of salt. Some people even recall seeing Mad Bubblers back in the days as is the example from a member here in the boards but its all up to speculation. Is it possible they were in limited production at some point? Absolutely and I want to almost believe that it did go into production at some point. However we may never know because nobody has come forward with any concrete answer.

I wouldn’t say that has a simliar rarity to the LL Mumm-ra or an 8 back Cheetara…it just wasn’t produced around here, so it’s more on the scare side for Americans, but to our southern peers, it may have been a relatively easy to find figure.
Thats the thing Dan is that it isnt easy to find. I spent the better portion of a year tracking mine down. Felino is as common as dust, and it is just the opposite with Felina, it had a very limited run in South America. But yes that is the figure I was talking about. You are correct in assumming that it is easier to find than an LL mummra or 8 back single cheetara, but it is still quite rare. Of course I am more interested in the SA variants than most people.
Well, I voted for the Luna Lasher Mumm-Ra, because as the other members have said it, I’ve also not seen one myself. OK, you can say that Cheetara has never been seen, but for me, that don’t care if it was released on 8 back or with batteries or something else, I find more difficult to find something that is unique like the LL Mumm-ra
There is Cheetara with wilikat but with 14 back or something, but LL Mummra there’s only one and even the Thunderwings Lion-O is not as rare as this one. I’ve seen the one that Manny has and the one that was one ebay last month or so. So that makes 2 and still zero LL Mummra!
Vintage you do bring a valid point and if you were to go by figure itself no doubt hands down LL Mumm-Ra would win the poll. Ive seen one loose LL Mumm-Ra on Ebay in the few years I’ve been collecting. But carded? I think the top two would be Cheetara 8 back and LL Mumm-Ra both being equally as rare IMO Oh and 8 back Panthro? How many have you seen on Ebay…I have only seen 1 and that is the one posted right now. Of course the one I bought a couple of years ago for $60 dollars is no. 2
Hi Manny, not that you talk about the 8 Back Panthro, I have to agree with you, I think the only one I’ve ever seen is yours!
I have only two MOC figures, 8Back Slithe and 14Back Monkian and I must say that although the white splash behind Monkian gives it a nice look, the all black card has a real Vintage look! That’s why I really love 8 backs, not because they are more hard to find, but because they really look old (and I like old stuff )
And off course, Panthro has always been one of my favourite figures and yours is saved here in my hard-disk as one nice picture!!
A lot of people tend to overlook Panthro but truth of the matter is how many carded 8 back Panthros have been seen on Ebay in several years. I really cant recall any. So essentially Panthro could rank up there as one of the rarest. LL Mumm-Ra is rare but there may be several hundred out there. In my opinion just because it doesnt pop up on Ebay doesnt mean its rare. Its up to each person to decide how rare and coveted something is. I mean you can say that since an 8 back Lion-O with battery offer and maroon haired hasnt been seen on Ebay that it could be equally as rare as a LL Mumm-Ra?
Some people pay a prime for Bengali’s and Jagas and i dont understand it because Bengali’s and Jaga’s are about as common as finding a Lion-O. I mean i consider a LL Mumm-Ra a rare item and perhaps one of the hardest to get but I cant fathom someone paying several thousand dollars for a carded sample. I mean a Feliner sold a few years ago for like 3-4 grand so a LL Mumm-Ra or a TW Lion-O for close to that much is just plain crazy. Now for a Feliner which is a one of a kind item paying several thousand dollars is a fair amt to pay
Well, for me that can’t go to places where vintage action figures are sold, the only place that allows me to see how rare an item is, is eBay. I’ve been checking everyday for Thundercats (just for curiosity) on eBay for quite some time and there are some items that I’ve never seen there, or only once: Panthro 8 back, the Cheetara you mentioned, your marroom Lion-O is the first I saw there and everywhere, the TW Lion-O we saw a couple of weeks ago was the first I saw on Ebay (besides yours) and now, I’ll see a LL Mumm-ra! It will be exciting to see how much it will achieve!
If Lion-O was 2500, I dunno… 3000? More, maybe…
I’ve seen loose TW Lion-O, but also none LL Mumm-ra.
It would also be fun to see one of those prototypes. I recall seeing a Star Wars prototype going for 7000$ a few weeks ago! It was featured on eBay’s first page! wow!
It’s very exciting seeing those items turn up like that. The maroon haired Lion-O I had was actually acquired from an 80’s collector, he did know that battery haired Lion-O’s were rare but didnt know anything about the maroon hair variation. Funny thing is that when i got it in the mail i was expecting the typical orange hair and when i looked at it it turns out it was maroon hair. It was a shock to me seeing for the first time this variation as i had never heard of it nor seen it anywhere. I did consult a high profile Thundercats collector and he assured me that there was a variation of the Lion-O. Tough to find and I’m not even sure it will be seen ever again on Ebay.
