Just would like to hear the different opinions on AFA. Sports cards have their grading service,comics do too and within the last few years action figures got theirs. So do you like the service or not and why?
I personally like the service, I move quite a bit and their cases are custom made and protect them from damage (somewhat) also is given a standard grade that one can go by therefor decresing the chances of getting a overly graded or undergraded item from a seller. Whats your opinion we want to hear them!!!
Personally, i have yet to use their service but i plan on it in the near future. It’s just like CGC, the comic encapsulating service, and it should make buying an item much more worry-free. Hopefully they expand their service to be able to one day encase every possible toy out there, from barbie to board games and everything in between. I love it.
Not my thing. Can’t get to the toy when it’s sealed in Lucite. What good is a toy I can’t touch? That reminds me, how do you open the darn things without ruining the toy?
Plus, people forget, plastic and cardboard ages. Bubbles yellow and crack. Eventually the plastic of the figure reacts to the plastic of the bubble and the figure deteriorates. It might have been an AFA grade 90 MOC figure when it was sealed. But in a few years as the toy ages you are going to end up with a sealed toy that doesn’t match it’s grade.
I guess in the end its all about preference I would much rather have my toys on a sealed case to give it better protection rather than take a chance in it getting ruined. Cases help the toy to stay preserved from its original state. I do it more for the protection rather than its grade…the grade to me is just a bonus.
For me I love it because it will preserve it better. So say you had a mint toy and it got damaged like if you move house or something I would be so annoyed but if you got it graded it is safe also when buying a graded piece you know the condition of the item and I prefer my items to be mint. so for me AFA is a yes
Part of me really love that darn AFA thing because it’s well protective and it looks good like a display case in a way. If I’m going to purchase something for a future investment, then yes, AFA is for me.
On the other hands, my other side hated the darn AFA because it too expensive on Ebay :lol: :lol:
As you guys know, I like to purchase MOC/MISB and open them up to get the best of the best condition out of the toy. However, with AFA MOC/MISB their price skyrocket like 2 or 3 time than the regular MOC/MISB.
I buy low grade bad condition MOC to open for my loose collection also. My question to you is would you really buy an AFA item to crack open the case and open it up?
It would be nice if AFA could grade loose Thundercats..I spoke to them at FX 2006 and it seems like theyre considering grading 6 inch figures in the near future
Out of curiosity, how much does it cost to get a MOC Thundercats figure graded?
and how does the process work? Do you phone them and then they ask you to send your figure by mail to them? What if it gets lost or damaged in the mail?
Can you take your figures to them in person and get them graded on the spot?
I very unlikely to ever send anything to them due to the risks of sending overseas, but I still curious all the same!
Just to give you an idea I just paid 75 dollars to get Stinger graded which by the way includes custom casing, shipping and insurance. Thats statewide though,Im sure its much higher for overseas. The faster you want your figure back the more they charge. Kinda like expedited shipping where you have to pay extra. In this case it would be expedited grading and casing
Nothing can be taken in person unless theyre at a convention and decide to do onsite grading. You can just send them the figure and the will go from there
