Mine is The Little Mermaid…I fell for Ariel a loooong time ago. I’m not obsessed, I’m just a dedicated fan. I was a bit disappointed that Disney canceled the limited edition DVD set last year…I was planning to buy two of them!
After TLM…it’s kind of close. Beauty and the Beast takes second, then its a toss up between Lion King, Aladdin, Mulan, and The Fox and the Hound. All great films.
Oh and I have to put in an honorable mention for The Rescuers Down Under and Oliver and Company…highly underrated films that are overshadowed by the 90s stuff…although most of the 80s Disney films are overshadowed. There are a lot of gems that people forgot about.
My favorite Disney animated movie is the original “Bambi”, released in 1941. Even though Walt himself wryly noted that nobody back then was interested in the love life a forest deer, it was a groundbreaker when it came to realistic animation. It’s the main inspiration when I was a child and a pre-teen for my wanting to be animator, though nothing came of that.:cheetaraveryhappy:
My other Disney animated favorites include “Lady and the Tramp” (1955), “101 Dalmations” (1960), “The Jungle Book” (1967), “The Aristocats” (1971), and “Robin Hood” (1973).
My gut instinct is to go with the Lion King. There’s some films which have a deep and moving plot, but the Lion King swept me off my feet. I first watched it when I was about seven, then didn’t touch it until I was 16 when I rewatched. Suffice to say it was like watching an entirly new film. Been abit older I finally understood what it was about and the philosphical and moral dilemmas it dealt with. When it was done I sat in silence for a long while reflecting and marveled at how truly an amasing film it was.
However, for pure Disney pleasure, I may be shifted to say my favourite was Robin Hood. However other close combtants would include The Fox & the Hound and Aladdin.
I gotta go with Manny on this one and say The Little Mermaid with Beauty and the Beast as a close second. One definite reason for TLM is that it has the best music score of any Disney film ever made (Under the Sea).
How come nobody mentioned Finding Nemo which I would rank #3 or are we just discussing classics?
Yeah, I was talking more about the classic animated films.
The problem with the recent Disney films (non-Pixar) such as Meet the Robinsons is that it lacks the musical feel. MtR was a good movie, which surprised me a lot.
Brother Bear was a great movie and was underrated by the audience and critics. It was probably IMO, the last great 2D animated film.
Toy Story and Toy Story 2 are my all time favourite animated movies. Although they are more Pixar films than Disney films for me. As for Disney 2D animated films, The Lion King is my favourite. Another non Disney animated favourite of mine is The Iron Giant
This isn’t quite a fully animated movie but there is a large section of animation in the movie.
My favorite Disney movie is “Bed****s and Broomsticks” The journey to Naboomboo Lagoon and the soccer match between the True Blues and the Dirty Yellows is a classic.
