What would YOU do different?

Yes ofc, but my point is that they probably did not have much freedom on how to do things. This way who ever got the job i think the job would have been pretty much the same with a few differences of course.

Animation used to be much more fun in the past, even though it was never perfect.

The animation wasn’t the problem, it was the lack of a competent writing team.
Also the designs for the main cast really could have been better and been designed more to respect heir original iconic looks.

i liked the new design concept for the NS. my problem just like every one else was the inconsistencies of the story/plot at times.

I don’t understand why they toned down the original designs. Panthro went from having a barbaric spiked harness to a little spiked waistcoat LOL. I am also puzzled about them all going around barefoot. Even more confusing is Tygra suddenly getting hold of Halo armour, when they have no technology…I wont even start about him also being able to pilot a spaceship.

This would have been an almost perfect redesign for Lion-O. Both the outfit(somewhat similar to NS design) and the physical(bigger in mass, and longer, less spiked hair):

if i was to change one thing, it would be Lion-o’s age and physique. i would have him as old as Tygra and a bit bigger. i got a feeling that if they made Lion-o older and a bit mature in personality and fierce in combat, kids would have loved him as a main character. i remember posting on this site a while ago about the Cartoon Network Thundercat forum and how most kids/fans on there stated that Tygra was cooler than Lion-o and how he was their favorite thundercat. a show where the main character isn’t favored by most audiences tends to suffer in the long run.

I think they made Lion-O the age that he was as a compromise from not having the whole trapped in a defective escape pod thing and at the same time wanting him to “grow” in the show.

As for people liking Tygra better, well people like jerks. I mean just like on shows like Buffy the Vampire Slayer, you kinda like Spike more than Angel. etc.

If they wanted Lion-O to grow they would have been better giving Lion-O Tygra’s characteristics. Have him be bold, arrogant and eager for battle etc, then have him learn to be a better leader from the other Thundercats etc as the series goes on.
It’s hard to care for characters that are unlikeable, especially when the cat race are portrayed as the villains on Third Earth.
I honestly can’t believe the creative minds of the NS were allowed to make the decisions they did. :frowning:

It’s definitely true about most people liking jerks more. i am actually a Spike fan myself if you want to know. i really understand what you are getting at but i felt like without that sword, Lion-o was really that interesting. Even his so called love for tech seemed to have lasted for only two episodes. i actually loved the fact that the writers gave that obsession and i thought it was going to be a recurring thing in the series.

That piece of “ThunderCats” artwork is amazing. The Lion-O on the drawing looks pretty similar to 1985 Lion-O.

I honestly think that with different writers, even with the same exact plot, things could’ve been better. I can see what their intentions were when making the show, but the execution of the writing wasn’t always there. The individual episodes could’ve been a little more cohesive with each other as a whole. It just seemed, to me, like the writers took too many shortcuts.

I think the sketch posted was GORGEOUS but I’m glad it wasn’t what the Cats ended up looking like, they look far too human, that was my biggest peeve about the OS, though I love the OS they all looked like weirdo mid 80’s early 90’s wrestlers.
Merged Post:

LOL, yes people can like jerks and Tygra is a bit of one. I was a Buffy and Angel fanatic and I VERY much preferred Angel over Spike, I actually didn’t care for Spike very much after season 4 of Buffy. I don’t really think that’s the formula for some. I like Tygra because he’s a bit rough around the edges and still kinda vulnerable despite trying to hide it if he was as confident and swag-tastic as he acted he would have just told Cheetara he was crushing on her sometimes in the last ten years, painfully shy people suffer in silence for 10 years.

To be fair they did explain why he wasn’t obsessing over tech after the premier .
He was angry at it. Blamed his father’s death and the enslavement of his people on technology.

I was actually wondering if they would have had better luck going with a younger cast. They could get away with making Lion-O and the others act a bit more immaturely ( not that most kids their ages are mature :stuck_out_tongue: ) and maybe amp up the goof factor. Not so much that it would turn off an older audience, but just enough to make it more like the original Ben 10 which was a huge success.
I got to thinking about it after seeing these alternate character designs. Look at preteen Lion-O and Tygra in the upper right. Cute right???!!!

While im on the matter of designs, I have to say I like this Cheetara a lot more than the final product.

You say that like it’s a bad thing.

I can’t tell if you’re joking or serious.

Either way (just to give my opinion) I liked the new designs of the characters besides Panthro. He was too muscular, to the point where it didn’t even seem natural. And coming from someone who really enjoyed the NS, the arms were really stupid.

Joking LOL.

Wow, i never really thought about a younger cast. It actually makes a lot of sense in a broader perspective. CN really should have went this direction if they were really aiming for the younger demographic. As an artist myself, these designs are beautiful and really gives personality to each of the Thundercats. I agree about this Cheetara looking better than the final version. It really is heart breaking know that we might never see another Thundercat series in a long while.

Look good, great job to whoever made them.

I think the artist was one of the concept artists that actually worked on the show. Most of the designs are pretty cool. Though unlike everyone else, I don’t like that Cheetara.
