Thanks, Purrsia. Believe it or not, I have catalogued all of my CDs, cassettes and vinyl…in addition to my DVDs and VCR tapes. After I got hold of some of my vinyl items some of them came out on CD a year or two later. I keep the vinyl for collecting’s sake.

Does anyone collect the Now That’s What I Call Music compilations?
Here in the UK we are on Now 66 now! I’m thinking of picking it up since it has a few songs on I like. Basically these are the kind of things I listen to most because I like all kinds of music and you usually get a good mixture of chart songs on them.
I have quite a few of them, my earliest being Now 16 (from 1989!) Though I also have the year compilations from Now 1984 up to Now 1993 as well 
I understand that the ‘Now’ compilations are relatively new in the USA right? Are you guys on something like Now 30 or around about?

just saw your post and checked out amazon.com…it looks like they are at Now Volume 24 in the States. I don’ know much about the compilation (not my kind of music) but I think we have it in Germany as well.
My taste of music is a little different I guess, I am more into Metal of all kinds, Gothic, some rock and some of the 80’s stuff and also german folk with medieval instruments :cheetaraveryhappy:
I am on vacation in Germany right now and had some time (thanks to my Mom for babysitting the thunderkitten) to go to some awesome concerts!

i’m 30 @ the moment. stuff i listen to is alternative rock, 80s stuff, an r&b / rap song here & there, maaaaaybe some 70’s rock. i mainly like stuff that has a good melody & is something i can sing (or try to) along to.

I’m 53 and partial to retro (I was a mere child during the early Sixties and teen during the so-called “counter-culture Sixties”, which probably makes me the oldest person registered on this website!). What I listen to these days mostly depends on what mood I’m in. It can be the Beatles, Frank Sinatra, the Beach Boys, Carly Simon, Elton John, Duran Duran, Queen, and so on. When Halloween rolls around, I go a bit Goth in my musical tastes. Exploring that genre was an adventure, to put it mildly! Thanksgiving (I’m American) and Christmas returns me to lighter, if not neccessarily seasonal, music. I mean, OMG, how many gazillion versions of Christmas songs can you stomach? Saint Patrick’s Day sees a bit of Celtic music if I want to listen to it. In April, if I wish, I pull out Renaissance music because, as far as I’m concerned, April is Shakespeare month (it should be officially declared that). The rest of the year it’s whatever music I want to play.:cheetaraveryhappy:

Yeah, I bet that the exact same releases get put out right across Europe. They are pretty much the most successful compilation series ever. If you like chart music of all kinds they are pretty good for getting songs by an artist you wouldn’t necessarily buy the whole album of.
Bare in mind that this series started in the UK around 1984. I believe Virgin/EMI launched at over in the US in the late 90’s?
I think they release around 3 albums (2 discs each album) per year.

Almost everybody I see posting in threads like this, whether they can justify it or not, will tend to say “I have a varied taste in music”, and I’m no exception: I have a varied taste in music. 
To copy from my last.fm profile, I try to listen to as broad a range as possible, with my favourites probably being New Wave, trip hop, hip hop (as in stuff like J5, De La Soul and A Tribe Called Quest, not gangsta-rap inspired chest thumping), 80s cheese, funk, disco, doo-wop and glam rock.
The only genres I struggle to enjoy are metal and country. From the former, power metal is ok, but when they start growling in other sub-genres it just feels juvenile: shame, as the musical ability is often very high. Similarly with country, which also has loads of excellent guitarists, the drawling twang gets on my nerves, as does the occasional religiosity. But hey, I like Dolly Parton. 
I use last.fm as a handy way to keep track of what I listen to: my page is [u]here[/u], which means you can see exactly what I’ve been listening to since July 2007 (I listen to music off my computer 95% of the time, so last.fm is ideal for me). At the moment, the top 10 consists of:

I like techno, electronica, classical music (Bizet and Dvorak are favorites), movie soundtracks, hip hop…
But my absolute favorite decade of music is the 70’s…I love all of it… rock, disco, the musical parodies you name it I probably have it.
Except… Rick Dees’ Disco Duck, I buy every copy of that I can find at flea markets record stores etc. and break them.
