Quick question - I’ve just seen this comment from hairybeastman in the Great Void thread about George W. Bush:
Now, I know the Great Void is for sticky subjects and so a different attitude is taken than with other forums, but is posting in there “I hope so-and-so dies” or “I hope they all die” acceptable? My instant reaction when I saw that remark was to edit it or at least ask that such language be toned down a bit, but didn’t know what the rule was on such things. Perhaps someone could LMK, just because I’d be interested. Many thanks!
Thanks for the response, Manny - I’ve now edited his post to remove the reference to wishing Bush’s party would die! I didn’t leave a comment as thought it would die down quickest if I didn’t, but if he asks why his post was edited I’ll tell him. Thanks again for the speedy response to this!
id say leave it. Its his opinion, and is the great void only people that subscribe to it can see it. It doesnt send a very positive message to edit posts that are all opinion based. Its says we have this adults only section but we are going to treat you and your opinion fine as long as it meets the status quo and doesnt offend somebody
I’m torn to be honest. It’s definately borderline.
But you probably made the right decision. Afterall he could have put his point across in a more toned down manner. For example saying he wishes Bush and his party would disapear.
Thing is though, does that mean that in a forum such as the Great Void or He-Man.Org’s Tar Swamp that you can just post whatever comes into your head? Saying “I hope Bush’s party all die” (or whatever), isn’t that the same as posting “I wish all Muslims would die”, “I wish all socialists would die”, “I wish all gay people would die”, “I wish all straight people would die”, “I wish all ThunderCats fans would die” - you get the idea. Yes, the Great Void is a place for folks to express their differing views on sensitive topics, but my own $0.02 is that it’s not acceptable to go onto any public forum (particularly on a website like this) and say “I hope so-and-so dies” - that’s just unnecessary.
It was the right call. Expressing views is one thing, but it has to be made in a way that isn’t hostile. I’m all for free speech, but if that post was made in an open and more populated forum, I think it would have been really bad.
Chris I get what your saying but to me that’s non offensive. I live by the creedo I may not agree with what you say, but will defend to the death your right to say it.
Maybe we should put that in the rules then that threats to specific people or groups no matter how idiotic, or base, or unattainable they are, are not allowed and will result in the post being edited accordingly. Something along those lines so people know in the future.
winces There’s my favourite word again! I’m pretty sure that no one was ignoring you, Matt - if so, I’ve been ignored by multiple members of the team repeatedly over the past couple of weeks and months, LOL! As with most things like this that happen I suspect the person or persons in question either missed your comments when skimming through a thread or saw them when in a hurry and neglected to reply, something of that nature.
Anyways, I’d definitely be happy with you moderating the Great Void forum, not least of all because I don’t want to, LOL! Joking aside, the final decision on this is MannyC’s, but I’d be happy with you doing it!
I’m sorry i think i may have missed it however im glad you can moderate it, it seems like it has picked back up and so i think you will do a kick ass job. On that note i have made you a moderator for that forum and should be able to edit thread and do all the fun stuff ;).

I think the meeting would definitely help re-establish what our responsibilties are. Hopefully, you’re not too upset Matt…I personally don’t mean to skip over your posts!
no biggie everyone. Im not mad nor am I upset. I know things come up. and I know I threw it out there in the middle of a long thread. I was really only messing around (not about moding the void but about being ignored) should have put a smilily or something at the end
