The Is Thundercats Fandom slowly dying? and the replies on there got me thinking about the possibility of a new ThunderCats toyline.
With the cancelation of the 2011 ThunderCats reboot and sub par “Classic” action figures released by BanDai, the chances of a ThunderCats Collector Line (like MOTUC) seem at an alltime low.
Unlike the He-Man brand, which knows many incarnations, the 80’s ThunderCats “only” had 130 episodes, accompanied by 40 odd action figures. In it’s day ThunderCats was a huge hit and today the Cat’s still have a solid fanbase. If the fanbase is large enough to convice any company to produce a serious “ThunderCats Classics” line is doubtful and that got me thinking.. the ThunderCats show had 2 “sister” shows: SilverHawks and TigerSharks. With roughly the same creators, voice-actors and animation studio. Now, both show did very well (Silverhawks a little better then the Sharks) and both had an action figure line attached to it, the SilverHawks by Kenner, the TigerSharks by LJN. Both these lines are highly collectible, with the TigerSharks figures being very rare and hard to obtain.
So I thought, what if this hypothetical line would cover characters from all three shows, based on their animated appearances. Released/offered in waves of 3 figures i.e. WAVE 1: Lion-O, Quick Silver & Mako WAVE 2: Mumm-Ra, Mon*Star & T-Ray etc. The cardback could, just like the MOTUC figures, feature bios of the figures and maybe connect the three universes as a whole. That was my idea anyways..
I created a FaceBook page called “Thunderforce Action Figure Line”, Thunderforce being a workingtitle, reffering to this image
