I was reading the press release again, and it mentions a brief synopsis of the cartoon’s plot. What do you think the “Stones of Power” refer to?
Could it be a reference to the “Treasures of Thundera” from the original series? Or do you think it’s a brand new plot device?
I really hope the search for these stones isn’t the main storyline because it would feel like Pokemon’s quest to get gym badges all around the world.
Then again, if the story was more like Aang from Avatar where he has to go around the world and master the different elements (Lion-O finding the stones to fight evil), then I think it would be epic!
I mean they got someone from the Avatar animated series to help produce the cartoon. Avatar is AMAZING.
I hope ThunderCats will be the same! I have high expectations!
I hope that it refers to something from Thundera… Ideally it would be something along the lines to special/mystical stones that provide the Thundercats with power/energy/access to their ancestors. They had them on the ship but they scattered when the ship crashed or were stolen by locals.
Another possibility is that they borrowed from Terry Brooks (who probably borrowed from someone else) and the stones are being used to transport the general population of Thundera… Again they were lost/stolen after the crash and they need to collect them all to free their people on the new world.
What I hope they are NOT is something native to third earth that they hear about and decide they must quest to find, and that that is the main plot of the series. I can’t see new comers becoming so enthralled with local lore that they spend all their time searching for something that the locals couldn’t find but they just happen to have the right knowledge and equipment to track something they have never heard of before.
I just hope it doesn’t turn into StonesOfPower Z, where they’re constantly collecting them and then they get scattered and they have to find them again for something. It would just feel borrowed. The stones being what they need for there insignias is the best idea I’ve heard so far for this. That way they could play an important part in the beginning, and hopefully the writing team can come up with other creative storylines for the “arcs” (that hopefully rarely involve Pumyra, Bengali, or the Lunatacs but heavily feature Grune, Vultureman, & Safari Joe)
Yeah, sure… there are seven of those stones, and when they collect them, a huge chinese dragon appears and they can ask for a wish. Afterwards, the stones get scattered again…
That’s the best idea so far. I hope it’s something along those lines.
It would be nice to link the Stones of Power with the Treasure of Thundera.
Additionally, it would be a smart way to link the Old with the New Series. More or less, this has to be done at some point.
Besides there are many mysteries left to be solved about this mythic treasure.
I’m thinking it may be something along the lines of the old “Doctor Who” storyarc “The Key to Time” (the fourth Doctor and Time Lady Romana have to find and reassemble the six pieces of the cube-shaped crystal called the Key to Time so balance can be restored to the universe). The twist might be that Lion-O must find the Stones of Power to empower the ThunderCats, save his people (if not necessarily Thundera itself), and prove his right to succeed his father. Apart from that, I can’t think of anything else as to why these Stones are so important. :liono
