Well, with the site re-launch set to take place any day now, there are just one or two bits and pieces we need to finalise. For me, the most burning issue is this one…
As you guys know, one of the biggest things that Kyle & I have undertaken in our joint management of the Cartoon Section is a re-design of the Episode Guide pages, and although I haven’t been able to complete as many as I wanted, we have six ready to go up. These pages can all be accessed from here:
(If you look at that index page you’ll see that parts of it are a complete mess that need sorting out - but that’s a matter for another day.)
Every Episode Guide page has a whole bunch of screenshots, thumbnails which open up a larger version when clicked on - so far, none of these images are watermarked. I’m now wondering whether these images should be watermarked somehow, or whether they should be left? On the one hand the watermarks do spoil the images (plus they’re something that will always need doing - for the entire series that will be something like 1,500 images to watermark!), and it’s worth saying that, whilst we’ve taken the time to create them, they’re not exactly something that are hard to come by given that all we’ve done is grabbed from the DVDs. However, they are nonetheless images that we’ve gone to the trouble to make - so, I’m in two minds on the issue!
Please can you guys LMK your opinions as to whether or not these images need watermarking, as this makes a big difference as to whether or not the new-look Cartoon Section is (nearly) ready to go live or not. Many thanks for your input, everybody!
Well I don’t really see the point as like you say, with the DVD’s out (or coming out as they are in the UK now) it’s pretty easy for folks to make their own screen grabs. If they feel the need to steal ours without giving us credit that I feel sorry for them more than being angry. So I’d say don’t bother.
But I didn’t spend time making them, however just my thoughts is all.
I dont think its necessary either, I can understand watermarking rare or exclusive material, but screen shots are now easy to get a hold of. And even if people do steal them, I dont think its cause for alarm
…Which pretty much backs up what I’m thinking! The other difference between these screengrabs and the images in the Toy Section are that these aren’t really images that could be used for (rip-off) eBay auctions - so, they’re less of a worry there.
I would still welcome the opinions of all the rest of you guys - what do you think about Neil & I are saying here?
EDIT: And Martin did, whilst I was typing, LOL! Thanks for the input my friend - anyone else?
As you mentioned Chris it is something we’ve worked hard for but at the same time I’m not too keen on watermarking them because i think it would take away from the picture. I dont think there would be too many people out there who would take them for their own personal gain.
