Apologies for keep bombarding these Boards with comic material-related threads. 
However, this is one thing I’d really welcome your input on! 
Searching the Internet for ThunderCats comic material, I stumbled upon a website called http://www.comicartcommunity.com. They have hosted a wealth of beautiful (all Wildstorm) ThunderCats artwork, mainly completed covers pre-logo/barcode/image cropping/etc. Go to their “Gallery” section and do a search for “thundercats”, and prepare to be amazed!
I spoke to the webmaster of the site, Terry (who I assume is a male Terry rather than female, based on the spelling, even though he has a female avatar on that site’s message board!), and he informed me that none of that material is copyrighted to him, his site just hosts the images and that the copyright belongs to the artist and/or owner of the pieces hosted.
To start with I found he was rather off with me, and he reacted very badly to one thing I said, which was when I told him that we watermark all images to prevent image theft. He stated, “Being brutally honest - that’s pretty crappy (IMHO). I don’t watermark those images - because they’re not mine. Ask the copyright holder and/or artist for permission to watermark. But be prepared, they may not like the idea either. :)” I then talked my way out of that, by stating that “please don’t misunderstand, we’re all of us at TCL.org happy to leave images with no watermark, in fact in an ideal world I for one would actually prefer it! However, I know from personal experience that some people become concerned about images from their personal collections being showcased online without some form of marking to prevent it being downloaded and used elsewhere without their permission. However, please be assured that if someone dislikes the idea, we are more than cool with the concept of not using watermarks - thank you for drawing this to my attention! :)”
…After which, he was eating out of my hand, even suggesting we advertise this site through his (although I’m not sure what he had in mind with that)!
However, before approaching any of the owners of these pieces of comic art, I thought I should gauge opinion and ask whether you guys are comfortable with the concept of us showcasing images on this site that are not watermarked (obviously at the owners’ own risk, even though we’d need to find a gentler way of putting that! ;))? Also, do you think for some of these pieces that we could theoretically, if requested, come up with a slightly more understated watermark (such as putting www.thundercatslair.org in one corner)? What do you guys think? I’d very much welcome your input here - many thanks!
