Note - I’ll be referring to the 80s series Snarf as the “RB (Rankin Bass)” Snarf and the new series Snarf as the “WB (Warner Bros) Snarf” I won’t be referring to picture orientation (top vs. bottom) but it should be obvious which one I’m referring to.
Also since Snarf had no weapons or garments, I’ll be breaking him down into face and body
[SIZE=“3”]Snarf’s Body[/SIZE]
RB Snarf was obviously modeled after a house cat, as he not only bears the most resemblence to a feline in the series, he’s also the only one that walks like a quadruped. RB Snarf is primarly covered in a dark redish fur pattern fully covering his back, neck, the back of his head, sides, the top side of his tail, arms down to but not the paws, and his legs down to but not his feet. His fur has secondary gold striped sections, including thick stripes running down both of the front of his legs starting at the hip, and down both of the outer portion of his arms. He also has a very large and prominant gold stripe starting at the base of his back, meeting the back of his gold hair, and running all the way down to the tip of his tail. Note that while he does walk like a quadruped, he is instead a biped as he has seperate hand paws on his upper torso that are prehensile, and he can and does walk upright.
His feet paws, hand paws, underside (chest, abdomen) and the underside of his tail are bare and are a peachy flesh color. His underside and the underside of his tail are one continuous furless segment with thin, black, horizontal stripes.
The WB Snarf differs slightly in that he, from the initial leaked photo, does appear to be a true quadruped as there is no noticeable distinction in appearance between the paws on his front and hind legs. However from the leaked figurine, we can ascertain that he too can at least stand upright. While he may or may not be able to walk upright, his paws are noticeably smaller than the RB Snarf. WB Snarf also keeps the same predominantly slightly dark red with gold stripe color pattern, but with a difference in the gold stripes. Gone are the stripes down the front and hind legs we saw on the RB Snarf as they are solid red fur on the WB version. He does retain the gold stripe down the back, however some noticeable differences appear to be that it possibly may not reach his tail in the WB version (the tail in the shot is solid red in the portion that we see), and the stripe down his back appears to have a seperate, more textured and fluffier fur section on top of his body coat. Additionally, there appear to be stripes directioned around his circumference, though not far reaching, that start out from the predominant gold stripe down his back. The final and possibly most noticeable difference is the WB Snarf has a white fur tuft at the end of his tail where the RB Snarf did not. Unsure if this will prevent him from being able to prop his body off the ground as the RB Snarf was able and prone to do or not.
Also while both versions of Snarf were plump, the WB Snarf appears to be slightly portlier (though not necessarily bigger overall) than his RB counterpart.
[SIZE=“3”]Snarf’s Face[/SIZE]
The RB Snarf, like in body, mostly resembles a longer fur breed of cat in the face. He has a white heavily textured fur “beard” that completely covers his cheeks, mouth and chin. Where Snarf does deviate from almost all breeds of cats is he is sans noticeable whiskers. He has a small red nose, eyes with reddish brown irises and white scleras, heavy golden hair, and two very prominent, pointy ears. The back of his ears are covered in red fur while the frontal and inner portions are bare and the same peachy flesh color as his hands, feet, and underside. His face above his “beard” is covered in white fur except for one small bare patch around his eyes that too is the same peachy flesh color. His hair is a heavily textured long fur of the same gold color as his stripes and extends down to the top of his back and down to but not covering his eyes or ears in the front.
The WB Snarf’s face again heavily resembles his RB counterpart with a few key differences. His beard is still white and still very heavy and furry. The only difference is that in addition to heavily furred sections that jut outward from the side of his face, he also has a longer section jutting downward as well where in most cases the RB Snarf did not. The WB Snarf also has a different face pattern as this time his nose is significantly smaller in size (and a slight pink color vs the red color on the RB snarf), and he doesn’t have the bare patch around his eyes. Instead around his eyes his face is completely covered in white fur, with the exception of a red stripe forming at the base of his head where his hair meets, ajoining with the red fur going behind both ears, and running down between his eyes to his nose. This gives the appearance of white “eyebrows” and a redish nose bridge. His eyes are the most striking difference his eyes are entirely shades of green: the iris a darker shade and the sclera a slightly lighter green shade. They also are not small and beady in size like the RB Snarf’s and are a much more prominant part of his face. His ears are mostly the same though slightly larger in scale to his face compared to the RB snarf. They are also striped this time in the bare inner fleshy section, and contain whispy tufts at the ends. WB Snarf’s ears are also a more angled orientation compared to his face as opposed to the straight up orientation used on the RB Snarf.

Strictly speaking of leaked images of the show (not considering Mummy Mumm-Ra yet), Snarf appears to be the most faithfully transferred and heavily borrowed from of the original RB cast of characters. He keeps the same fur colors, flesh colors, and overall same appearance sans a few significant changes. Fans of the original Snarf should like the faithful translation here, while people that didn’t like the character likely won’t like at least his appearance that we’ve seen thus far We’ve already seen that they will be treating his role with the other Thundercats differently (by not having English dialogue with Lion-O or the others), but this may allow for him to steal the show as he did occasionally in some episodes, without some of the dialogue to go along with it that some found annoying in the RB show.
Overall I’m extremely pleased they stayed so faithful and look forward to his role in the upcoming series.
