Curious to see who you want to do the voices in the new series…
Personally I want the old voices all the way. If there are any new characters I think it would be great to get Ocean (Beast Wars and every subsequent Transformers series except RiD, New Adventures of He-Man, 2002 He-Man) for the work. But I can’t accept anything but the old voices for the old characters.
Any other thoughts?
It would be nice to have the old cast (the ones living still, of course), but it is highly doubtful that the powers that be would even consider using them. They have their own “fresh” talent to go with the “fresh” look WB is more than likely going for. Listen to the fans? I can hear WB laughing now.
I would say this: Lion-O would not be Lion-O without Larry Kenney, so any new series has a strike against it already in my book.
I think it’d perfect if Larry Kenney could voice Lion-O’s father Claudus…if Claudus has any time on a new show.
But will they tell good stories, that’s the question I’m curious about.

Well I would love to have Frank Welker and/or Peter Cullen in there some where but that won’t happen so whoever as long as they don’t speak with Recieved Pronounciation.

What do the old cast sound like now though? (aside from Larry who I’ve heard on our site welcome message) Could they still manage the voices. I’m asking this because I haven’t viewed the doc on the Season 1, vol.2 boxset yet.
If the voice actors still sound good I think it would be great if they used them for a brand new series. However I have to admit that it’s very unlikely to happen, as like someone else said, they would probably want everything aspect of the new cartoon to be new.

I’ve seen the documentary, Neil, and I have to say that the surviving members of the TCats cast can still do the voices almost perfectly! 
Lynne Lipton’s natural speaking voice is actually very like WilyKit, but she can also do Cheetara’s voice perfectly - oh, and at one point in the documentary too, Larry Kenney actually acts out a conversation between Lion-O and Jackalman, it’s hilarious and brilliant!
If the powers that be were interested in getting Larry, Lynne and Peter to reprise their roles, you’d never know they’d been gone!

Okay, if a new cast does the roles, I could handle that. I would have to.
Now with regards to Chris’ comments - omgosh. I saw the documentary as well. It was very cool as an adult to see these talented actors that gave voice to my animated heroes, and I agree, they can still do it!!
So, if the original cast members still with us reprised the roles, that would be great, but, I’d keep an open mind as well to a new cast.
Here’s a thought - combined cast, new and old?
As Chris has stated, Lynne Lipton’s voice is near perfect, as is Peter’s. The conversation between Lion-O and Jackalman was nothing short of amazing, and entertaining, and if anyone would be willing to reprise their roles, it’ll be Larry. Larry has a love for his characters unlike any other. He truly loves his craft.
Now, I enjoy the voice work of Gary Chalk, David Kaye, Scott McNeil, and the others at Ocean Group, but I am unsure if their style is right for ThunderCats.
The reason why Frank Welker , Peter Cullen, Michael Bell, and other popular voice artists don’t do much current voice work is because they have strict guidelines they have to follow. They are SAG members, and can’t do any non union work, this is also why they don’t do any work in Canada, and why
the Ocean group has been used for many current animation productions.
You know… I’m with the idea of having as many of the original members to do the voices. They all can do them quite well, still. And it would never be the same otherwise. Did you know that the man who did Panthro’s voice (Earle Hyman) was the same man who played Bill Cosby’s father in “The Cosby Show”? Take a look - he’s one and the same! I was surprised to find that out. Two shows I grew up with loving…
Good ol’ Russell Huxtable was one of the more memorable characters as well. Earle Hayman was also a Shakespearian actor who has done a lot of Broadway shows. Even Lynne Lipton has done some broadway as well.
Anyway I hope to see a behiond the scenes voice recording on the final DVD set, knowing our luck they won’t have any extras at all, which is fine I guess.
Getting the series on DVD was enough for me.
I would be gutted if they changed the voice of Mumm-Ra. For me it is one of the most distinct recognisable voices I have heard for a character. It is scary yet comical. The way he addresses Ma-Mutt is brilliant (decaying dog, horrendous hound etc..) Also Hammer-Hand another classic. It deffinately needs a return from Earl Hammond.

Earl Hammond will never be replaced in my mind, but if there was
a new series, he would have to be. It depends on if this is a SAG
sactioned cast, or if they have free range of a cast to chose from.
Arthur Burghardt would be a good choice. Now when WB began their
re-newal of the Scooby Doo franchise they chose a new actor for
both Scooby and Shaggy, but then Frank Welker took of Scooby, and
Casey kasem reprised his role as Shaggy. So in Hollywood you never know
what will happen.
Wow, I didn’t know that Earle was a Shakespearian actor. Interesting… And I agree with you that the final boxed set should have a behind-the-scenes of the people, as well. But if not, I am also thankful that they have at least released them on dvd. One of the best things they have ever done!
Shakespearian trained I should say, as are most theatre actors of his time.
I can only hope they include a voice recording session with the
Special Features.
