UK News! (This One's For you Chris)

A little birdy has slipped me some news…

 1. Season 2 Part 1 is being pushed back from March 28 to April 14.

 2. WHV is releasing the complete season one with a limited edition run of a new ThunderCats comic!!! That will be released on February 18 in the UK.

I want to reconfirm everything first before we make this news public, but this source just joined the ThunderCats division at Warner Home Video so I think he’s reliable.

Also, he asked me a favor and was wondering if anyone on the team who lives in the UK knew of any big ThunderCats events going on in the UK. I’m assuming he wanted to do some sponsoring or advertising. Since we have Martin, Chris, Neil, and Kyle in the UK…I would ask on behalf of him.

A new ThunderCats comic, eh? ::looks at Chris:: :jaw:

Chris here…

Man, that’s a shame, although I suppose those couple of weeks won’t make a huge difference - at least now we have official confirmation that the set is coming out in the UK!

:jaw: Manny, where the heck did you get this info from?! It’s amazing!! When you speak to your source, please can you ask if they have any info as to the creative team involved in the comic? This is amazing news - how fantastic to see ThunderCats getting such an awesome treatment!

Quick question - will this complete season 1 release (complete with the comic) be another HMV exclusive, or will this be made more widely available via other retailers? Again, Manny, perhaps you could do some digging…?

A new UK ThunderCats comic packaged with a UK DVD release - I’m kind-of in shock here right now…

INSERT EDIT: Another quick question - I’m jumping the gun here, assuming that the comic would be packaged in with the complete season 1 set. Is this definitely how it will be available? Another question is whether UK TCats fans who have already purchased the two separate parts of season 1 over here will be able to acquire the comic some other way, or whether it will mean re-purchasing the sets a second time…?

That is amazing - even more amazing is the fact that ThunderCats now has its own division at Warner Home Video, LOL! That’s incredible!!

If in the re-confirming you could fire those questions above at him Manny, that would be absolutely brilliant - many thanks!

Is he able to clarify what he means by “ThunderCats events”? In terms of ThunderCats conventions, etc., as far as I know there is nothing at all - I’d be shocked to discover such a thing existed, as I would have thought it would be advertised somewhere on the Internet, and I’ve never seen or heard of one. It would be awesome if such a thing were to take place, although I doubt that the hardcore fanbase who’d be willing to shell out for such a thing would be large enough… :frowning:

Like I said above, I’m kind-of in shock - I would love to know who was working on that. I would say too, if the creative team on the comic was well-known enough, it would be worth them actually pushing that in their press releases, etc., as sometimes these things can be a tangible selling point.

This is incredible news!! MannyF, you are a legendary figure my friend!

Take care…

All good questions. I just sent him an email which now that I think about it, I should have waited to send since you have some great questions Chris. I don’t want to bombard him with emails, so I’ll wait a little bit before I send him your questions.

I did ask him if it was possible to give us access to WHV press releases regarding the DVDs. Not only would it be easier for us to track down official release dates, but it would definitely help promote the DVDs through the site.

Yeah, I was confused as to what he was referring to as well, though I believe he was probably just asking about some sort of gathering of fans. I didn’t want to say there wasn’t any right off the bat since he was able to give me this snippet of information and he was looking for a favor from me. I did however, suggest that if he wanted to run some sort of promotion/contest through this site, we would be happy to!

Chris here…

No worries - obviously this would be your call, my friend, but one suggestion would be that when he gets back to you with confirmation of the info you might then be able to let him know that you’ve spoken to me re: whether or not there’s such a thing as a UK ThunderCats convention, etc., and then pass on my questions as part of the same e-mail. What do you think?

Awesome thinking, Manny my friend. I know that WHV were sending info about the UK DVDs directly to Neil, but if they now have someone different in charge of TCats, maybe this will have changed…?

Again, brilliant thinking Manny, and something that would benefit everybody concerned - this site because we would be gaining access to exclusive info, WHV because they would be able to utilise us as an advertising resource, and fans because we’d be providing them with exciting info!

Out of curiosity, do you know if this guy has been in contact with any other ThunderCats websites or just us? If we were able to get on good terms with them, maybe they’d consider printing www.thundercatslair.org on the back of some of their UK box art in the same way that BCI Eclipse print www.he-man.org on the back of their He-Man & She-Ra DVD releases…

Take care…

Great news! I haven’t been in contact with WHV UK in a while :frowning:

Exciting news!

I can’t wait to see what the comic is about. I’m also really glad I held off buying the Dvd’s until now, as I can pick up the complete Season One, and hopefully Season Two!

I sent him an email with Chris’ questions. I should get a response from him soon.

He did tell me that I could publicly announce the new release dates for the dvds, but still have to confirm the comic. I just want to make sure we’re getting the correct information.

Hey guys,
I received a reply:

Hi Manny,

Absolutely. I will try and get some of this information to you. I have not seen it myself yet as it is still being made. The complete season 1 will be available trade wide but there may be an incentive to buy your copy at HMV and other retailers I am investigating possible exclusive material. The only way unfortunately to get the comic is to buy the complete season 1 and the run is planned to be only 10,000 of the comic. I will be sure to send you a couple of copies when we get them.

Hopefully, he can send us some free copies, or at least for the guys who are in UK! Anyhow, I got the greenlight to announce the comic so I’ll be making a post on the front page about it.

Oh please please can i get one??? Excellent news Manny two thumbs way up!!!

Seeing as though you’ll be in Germany, I’m sure if I tell Sam (our amazing source) to send it to Chris, he can forward it to you or anyone else  I’m hoping we can get two or three and have one as a site give away to help promote the DVD release as a way to thank Sam for the heads up on all of this. That would be a great give away and an awesome way to promote the site too!

Chris here…

Manny my friend, your work is amazing! Thank you so much for this info!!

I definitely concur with your thinking - however, please can I beg and plead for a copy of the comic if there is a free one going spare, you have no idea how much it would mean to me to have it and (without wanting to turn on the sob story! ;)), to buy ThunderCats season 1 for a third time (bearing in mind I own both the US and UK versions released already) for me on my income is a lot of money. That said, if that’s what it takes to get one then I’ll definitely do it, but if it would be possible for me to have a copy then I’d definitely be happy to take one, LOL!

My own selfish grovelling aside, though, I definitely think it would be a good idea to give one away to promote both the set and this site - also, I would add that if you want to have any sent to me for me to send on (for example to MannyC in Germany), I’d be fine with that, no problems whatsoever!

This is so awesome - again, double thumbs up to the legend that is MannyF for this great news!!

Take care…

They now have the cover up.

Surely that isn’t Tygra on the side again? :?

Oh and Manny, remind WHV that series 2 was never shown in the UK, so this is the first time these episodes I’ve been available.

I told them about The Transfer episode and they included that info on the last boxset.

Chris here…

Hey gang, HMV’s website are now showing the ThunderCats complete season 1 boxed set available to pre-order, complete with box art!

http://www.hmv.co.uk/hmvweb/displayProductDetails.do?ctx=285;5;-1;-1&sku=742941

I want to post this info up on the front page - please can you guys advise me if there’s a special link to post that allows for TCL’s HMV referrel to kick in? If someone else, such as MannyF, who knows how to do this wants to post the news up on the front page instead that’s OK by me - please can you guys LMK about this ASAP, as having just found this by chance today I don’t want TCL to get “scooped”. Many thanks!

Take care…

Would this be the one with the exclusive comic? (was there any more news on that?) I still haven’t bought any Thundercats Dvd’s due to my holdin out for region 2 sets, then this.

Chris here…

Hey Martin, yep, as far as I’m aware this should come with the exclusive comic - I’m surprised that the blurb on HMV’s website doesn’t reference the comic at all, as I would have thought that was a big selling point! :?

Take care…

Sam sent me an email on the 23rd, but I only received it this past Sunday because I had not checked my site (TCL) email until just recently. He wanted to do advertising through the website (what’s with all the ads stuff recently?) and asked me for stats. I haven’t received a response yet.

Anyhow, as for the HMV referral link, I actually don’t know how to directly link to specific pages of HMV with the referral link which is why the front page HMV link is still going to S1V2 instead of the S2V1 preorder page.

May be Neil knows?

Chris here…

Advertising as in advertising WB ThunderCats releases? If so, to be honest I think that would be an awesome thing to do anyway, even without the financial incentive - maybe ask if one of the perks of doing so would mean that we could be the absolute first to announce news re: any of WHV UK’s ThunderCats releases? Which is not quite as exciting as it sounds given that there is actually only one more DVD set left to come out in the UK, but it might also give us the scoop on the official DVD/Blu-Ray/HD DVD release of ThunderCats: The Movie come 2010!

In that case, if no one has any objections, what I’d like to do is post the news, small box art pic, and link directly to the set for now, and then if Neil or someone can provide me with a referral link and I’ll edit my post in the blog - how does that sound?

EDIT: Just added it to the front page - hope everything I’ve said is OK. Thanks for all the help with this, MannyF!

Take care…

I dunno whether the link was working or not? We were not getting any purchases :frowning: So now I’m wondering if my links worked?

Good news about WB UK. More than I ever got :frowning:

Update on the comic…it’s still coming…limited to 10,000 copies. If you preorder, you’re likely to get it since retailers have ordered less 10,000 sets. When I asked about the details of who’s working on the comic, he only answers by saying he’ll be sending me a couple of copies…I didn’t want to bother him with details since he’s already offering us free goodies.

Not sure why HMV has nothing on the comic though. :?

Has anyone ordered the complete season 1 DVD set? Just curious…

I do have good news though…

Sam sent me an email saying he’ll be sending me copies of the S1 DVD with the comic. I originally thought he’d be sending us just the comic, but he stated he’ll be sending us the whole DVD set!

I don’t know how many…but since he wrote “copies” I’m assuming more than one. I was thinking of may be doing a site giveaway to help promote the DVDs further. I think it’s the least we could do for Sam’s generousity.

What do you think?
