i was curious if anyone wanted to share any cleaning tips/products or sites that they have found that’s useful for our figures. i’ve seen several things on the internet but i thought i’d ask you guys since i want to know what works best and what to avoid specifically for our Thundercats.
MannyC told me to wash my She-Ra’s doll hair with Johnson’s Baby Shampoo, which is gentle enough to use, so if you have any non-ThunderCats figures with hair that needs cleaning, this is something you might want to try. I also heard somebody mention a product called “Gunk Be Gone” for cleaning goop of toy action figures. You might want to ask about that. :cheetaraveryhappy:
any idea if the 3rd series guys are different in cleaning needs like pumya and bengali and such since they can tend to “spot”? i didn’t know if they were a different kind of plastic or if that mattered either.
I can’t answer that one, Copper. You’ll have to ask MannyC about it. He’s very knowledgeable on the subject of keeping your action figures in tip-top shape.

My newest Pumyra that I bought had that sticky stuff on it and I cleaned it with rubbing alcohol all over and it got rid of it with no harm to the paint. A little red came off the boots but I think it would have anyway because of that sticky stuff.
The areas that were painted copper oxidized and there is a ring of brownish black green a little past the neck and forearm where the paint corroded. I think the MEGO moltish type of plastic degredation sweat helped integrate the discoloration into the plastic.
I think its there for good… but just to satisfy my curiosity…do any of you know if anything will get rid of that blacking ring on the flesh tones of Pummy’s arm? :duh:
I have not tried to clean my Pumyra yet with the Goo Gone, but I will post the results. And my Pumyra also has the oxidization around the collar.
To make the toys last longer, I think we should clean it in proper way. So it won’t damage the toys.
Hi all:
Last year, when I purchased a ThunderTank off of EBay, I did clean it.
Basically, it had been stored in someone’s basement for years, so while it was in awesome (my opinion) shape (and still had the treads!!), it was a bit dirty and covered in dust and dirt buildup just from sitting for all those years.
I took the treads off and dunked the whole thing in a dish basin, warm water with mild dish soap. Let the tank soak for about an hour and a half, kept rotating it, that sort of thing. Finally, I just ran clear water over it to wash it down.
It looks great, and is at least ninety five percent cleaner (there are two stains (front control area, cargo area) that won’t go away, and I really think they are from years of being exposed/used or what have you.
The other figures I ordered (Panthro, Bengali, Jackleman, Monkian) and one Skycutter, I honestly didn’t have to do anything too. All from different sellers, all well kept or at least well stored.

Another nice product I have found is Meguiars (spelling) dash board detailing foam. Its a product used to detail the dash on your car but is great for figures. It has UV protection in it and gives them a nice new looking shine. I dont use it to clean the figures as such, but more to protect them after cleaning. I dont apply it heavily, just a bit on a cloth and then wipe the figure down with it. I find it also works great on the tracks of the Thundertank as it helps prevent perishing.
