It could be entertaining to see Lion-O, determined not to make the same mistake he did with Cheetarah, assume that Pumyra’s romantic interest in him is something purely platonic. If she’s still a healer he would say that she only cares about him the way a doctor cares about a patient.
Nice pic, but if they use that design she would be older then Lion-o, Cheetara, and Tigra. So if that is the case she more then likely wouldn’t be interested in Lion-o.
I’m just throwing it out here, but why does Pumyra have to be a love interest for anyone? Why can’t she simply be a developed character in her own right? Why can’t Liono be a strong leader without the need for a love interest? Not everyone has to get together you know! I think now that we’ve had the whole love triangle thing that dragged and started to dominate a bit too much (hopefully that will be done and dusted at the end of the trials) and Tygra is with Cheetara, we don’t need any more soap opera love interests.
We have the lost city of the Tigers and a hint to Tygras past to look forward to (plus some potential flashbacks to what happened between the Lions and the Tigers to make the Tigers ‘lost’, great way to get Larry Kenney back as a Claudus cameo, yay!) We have the development of the Kittens. We have the introduction of Pumyra and the potential of Bengali and Lynxo, possibly leading onto stories about finding other pockets of Thunderians and reuniting their people, etc etc etc. There are so many other avenues to explore, so I think/hope the writers don’t go down the romance path and concentrate on different stories.
Well, I don’t think she’s got to be a love interest to be an interesting character in her own right, and for all we know at this point she might not even be(there’s always Willa if not;)). And if she does develop a relationship with Lion-O, I personally think(or hope) it’ll be done slowly/organically. Hopefully it’s not something that seems forced.
I personally don’t have a problem with romance. If it works for The Justice League and The X-Men, why not Thundercats?
Hi Pum Ra. I agree, I think Pumyra has great potential to be a very interesting character, possibly the most potential given she was so underused in the OS, yet many seem to want to simply pigeonhole her into ‘yay a girlfriend for Liono.’ There’s nothing wrong with relationships and romance in and of themselves, for example I think it would be nice if Cheetara and Tygra continued as a couple, subtly in the background, both supporting and helping each other grow as characters, but what I don’t want to see is romance DOMINATING the group dynamic, if that makes sense? I absolutely agree that it would be suicidal writing if they forced a quick relationship just to compensate those resenting that Cheetara chose Tygra over Lion-O. I just think that now we have the romance aspect being dealt with, there are much wider stories to tell, more adventures for the cats to have, rather than it just descending into a cheap soap opera. But as you say, at this point we don’t know what will happen, but it’s fun to speculate? lol
Oh, I absolutely agree. And again, it’s all about doing it “organically”. Look at the Justice League show; there was romance between Green Lantern and Hawkgirl, and between Batman and Wonder Woman, but the romance was not what dominated the group dynamic. Each episode focused on different aspects of the characters. I hope that’s what will happen in Thundercats.
What I love about the NS is that they are giving the OS characters some well deserved Justice…especially those characters that were very much neglected like Pumyra. My hope is that Pumyra will get her “day in the sun”…and from the looks of it she will…especially now that they are introducing her as a “fighter”. I believe that through Pumyra, the now post trial Lion O will learn to see Cat Women beyond how his teenage mind view’s them as…did anyone notice how “seductive” Cheetara appeared to LionO in the Trials? thats not her..thats LionO pulling the strings there..hopefully that will change post trials as he Matures.
Also through Pumyra, Lion o may also learn what it really means to be in Love, and as a result finally understand and accept his brothers relationship with Cheetara as something truly genuine rather than a “competition”. Hopefully we will see LionO apologize to Cheetara for being mean to her simply because she “chose” Tygra instead of him.
Mousecat, hi. She still may not be a ‘fighter’ as such, she may be hopelessly outmatched in the arena, but it is certain that she will have multiple episodes devoted to her, the writers have stated as much.

I like the apology/acceptance idea, I think this will happen too. But please no more romance, why does liono have to LOVE pumyra? Why cant they simply form a great, close friendship?
Thx michael…romance is part of an epic fantasy adventure…and its really one thing i felt was lacking with Lionos character in the OS…Absolutley agree though that they shouldn’t use romance as a main plot point in the series…but it should be present as part of the characters development in the series. Liono is growing up..and romance is unavoidable with that. Sorry NoRomos..its the truth.
I wouldn’t mind if LionO gets with no one until the very end of the series…tension between two characters through out a series is more than enough to keep the shippers out there satisfied and watching…I just prefer that tension to be between LionO and Pumyra. The pairing between cheetara and tygra was perfect in my opinion… i just hope they keep it that way and move on out of the whole love triangle thing, and get going with battling Mummra’s forces.

Romance is not really a part of it. In that sense it HAS to be there.
Lion-O has just been in a romance, kind off. We dont need him to do it again so soon. Let Tygra and Cheetara have their fun and be the couple that will run into trouble and what not will happen in the show further on.
Yet again he can’t grow up faster then anyone else. King or not you can’t speed up that process other then you try to do more mature things but he’s still gonna be a “boy”.
A very decent thought this is, and somewhat echoes my suggestion of not rushing a possible Lion-O/ Pumyra(assuming she will join The Cats) relationship as it there might be a risk that it might come off as trying to compensate certain fans for Cheetara choosing Tygra. So, first, as you said, Rizefall, have Tygra and Cheetara have their fun, and let it be established that Lion-O has outgrown his jealosy and is completely comfortable with them being together. Once that is done, then, slowly, begin building a chemistry between Lion-O and Pumyra(or whomever the love interest will ultimately be). This way the relationship can come off in a way that seems “pure” and also be distinct.
Agreed! I fear a romance might overshadow any potential Pumyra has, but if it must come to that, then please let it be plain as daylight that Lion-O is no longer crushing over Cheetara. Please.
Technically LionO has been in a romance by himself lol…poor guy. Learning how to love is a trial in itself. While it shouldn’t be emphasized too much in the series it should be recognized…and it has to happen in order for LionO’s character to come full circle. While yeah he could learn that through his brother’s relationship with cheetara…it’s not the same thing.
I think that they really need to start digging deeper into the characters backstories..as well as to start to make connections to previous episodes..and peoples…
