I was thinking over some of the history of Third Earth, and I thought we might be able to put together some sort of timeline. I know a lot of its history is shrouded in mystery, but I think the show has given us enough to work with. Here’s what I think.
Five Thousand Years Ago:
Mumm-Ra begins his conquest of the universe and acquires three stones of power.
Spirits of Evil tell Mumm-Ra to create a weapon to hold the War Stone.
Mumm-Ra destroys the galaxy of Plun-Darr to forge the Sword and Gauntlet of Plun-Darr.
Leo and Panthera gather the leftover metal fragments, and forge the Sword of Omens and Claw Shield.
Tygus takes the War Stone, Leo and Panthera take it from him and place it in the Sword of Omens.
Leo and the animals rebel against Mumm-Ra, defeat him, and the Black Pyramid crashes to Third Earth.
The stones of power are split between the Cats, Elephants, Birds and Sharks, and the animal races go their separate ways, populating Third Earth. They all agree to make the Black Pyramid forbidden ground, and shun technology, save for the Birds.
Between Five Hundred and One Thousand Years Ago:
The Bird Nation builds Avista.
The Book of Omens is hidden away after the Lizards try to take it, sowing the seeds of hatred between the two races.
The Soul Sever is created by the Necromechs after he comes to them for aid. He turns on them and tries to bring his family back to life through technology.
Between One Hundred and Three Hundred Years Ago:
Ratilla discovers the Sword of Plun-Darr, rises to power to become king of the Rats and starts a series of conflicts with the Cats.
Jaga kills Ratilla and seals the Sword of Plun-Darr in Mount Plun-Darr.
Around Twenty Five Years Ago:
Claudus becomes king of Thundera.
Claudus marries his queen.
Around Twenty Years Ago:
A series of conflicts begin between the Cats and Lizards, called the Lizard Wars. Slithe leads the Lizard armies.
Panthro meets Grune, and are awarded medals by Claudus for saving him.
Tygra is born, is sent away by Javan to escape the Ancient Spirits of Evil’s curse, and is adopted by Claudus and the Queen.
The Queen dies giving birth to Lion-O a few years later.
Snarf takes care of baby Lion-O.
Panthro and Grune are captured by Lizards, escape, and fight Spidera. Grune loses his fang to save Panthro.
Panthro is forced to fight in the Pit alongside Dobo, then escapes.
Around Ten Years Ago:
Dobo becomes boss of the Pit.
Panthro and Grune are made generals.
The Lizard Wars end, with the Cats victorious.
Tygra and Lion-O go to the forbidden ruins. Tygra gets Lion-O stuck in a well.
Lynx-O is made general of the army, while Panthro and Grune are sent to find the Book of Omens.
Rataro becomes king of the Rats, and begins looking for the Sword of Plun-Darr.
Between Five and Seven Years Ago:
Tygra meets Cheetara. Cheetara joins the Clerics.
Vultaire becomes prefect of Avista.
Hattanzo loses to the Duelist.
The fish men lose their home to the Ramlak.
One to Three Years Ago:
Lion-O meets Jorma.
Conquedor begins abducting Berbils.
Panthro and Grune find Mumm-Ra’s pyramid, Grune frees Mumm-Ra and betrays Panthro.
Panthro escapes from the pyramid after finding the Thundertank, and wanders the wilderness as he learns how the vehicle works.
Grune and Mumm-Ra recruit Slithe and begin massing their forces.
Wood Forgers move into Viragor’s forest.
Months Ago:
Kit and Kat’s father is swept away by a twister.
The Petalars are swept away to the brambles.
Tookit recruits Jenyo, Albo, and Gusto.
Kit and Kat runway from home to find clues to El Dara in the city.
Start of the Series.
Only thing I can’t really place is when Tookit got the Forever bag, but I’m guessing he’s had it for about ten years.
The flashbacks with Leo weren’t Hundreds of thousands of years ago. There was a little feature video thing when the show first premiered that had interviews with the crew and I think it was Ethan Spalding that said Mumm-Ra has known about the Sword of Omens for 5000 years. So that means all that only happened about 5000 years back.
Also Snarf is as old as Lion-O is, if not older. He was his nurse maid when he was a baby in Butterfly Blues.
Noted. I’m not sure Butterfly Blues is canon, but I might as well adjust it. I just thought that since Snarf is basically the equivalent of a pet cat, he wouldn’t be that old.
Why would it not be canon, cause it’s different? If the media, the looks or anything is not “as it it should be” it can still be canon for all we care.
How much of the numbers is “real” and not speculation? I just hate when fans try to boss around and say THIS IS HOW IT WORKS or HOW IT SHOULD BE.
Like Tookit and the forever bag, where is ten years coming from?
That’s why I have speculation in the title. Aside from the first events happening five thousand years ago, as Balgus pointed out, just about everything I have here is my own speculation. And I’m not bossing anyone around, I’m just posting what I think the timeline is, and if anyone has their own speculations on when things happened or the order of events they can post it here. That’s the point of the thread, to speculate. I even said right in my post that I don’t know where to place when Tookit got the Forever Bag. I just guessed ten years, I never said it definitely was.
Some guesses are more valid than others. I place certain events where they are based on how old I think a character is in a flash back. I try to leave a lot of room because I can’t be absolutely sure. Tygra and Lion-O are both close to being twenty years old, so I put events concerning their very early childhood around that time. I put Panthro and Grune’s meeting at around twenty years ago because Panthro’s age has been stated to be around mid 40’s, and judging from the flash backs he and Grune were just starting their military career, and I assume they would have been in their twenties, or close to that. I put Kit and Kat running away at a few months ago because they don’t look to have aged much at all since the flashback showing that, and I don’t think they’ve been in Thundera for too long, just long enough to become good thieves. Maybe a year at most.
There is a lot that I really do have to just guess at because there’s so few details to go on, like when Avista was built, when Jaga fought Ratilla, Soul Sever’s creation, when the fish men lost their home, etc.
As for whether “Butterfly Blues” is canon or not, I did not believe it to be canon because the art style is different and it’s much more cartoony, but also because I don’t think Claudus would have realistically entrusted the care of the infant crown prince to what is basically a very intelligent pet. Snarf acts smarter in the short as well. If you want to believe it’s canon that’s fine with me because I don’t think it has a big impact on the story either way.
I also believe Butterfly blues to be canon, just framed a bit differently for the sake of humor. It may not have HAPPENED as it did in the cartoon, which was very looney tunes like.
But pets have been used to guard small children of royalty before, and numerous animals do live longer than one thinks. Snarfs could very well live to be hundreds of years old.
I’d like to see a pre setting stage, as to how many years you believed Mumm Ra raised to power, learned of the evil spirits, etc.
By the by, how did or do you know it is the sharks who have the last stone?
Also perhaps showing in the timeline when the Berbills came online, or existed?
Actually I remember the crew blog saying Butterfly Blues wasn’t official canon, but the fact remains they still portrayed Snarf as alive when Lion-O was a baby, and that it’s our only real source of info for that time period.
I went ahead and added Snarf taking care of Lion-O, whether or not the short is canon.
^^^Some things I just can’t tell because there’s not enough info for me to go on. I imagine Mumm-Ra’s been rising to power anywhere between ten thousand to one hundred thousand.
I could tell it was the Sharks that got the last stone because they’re the only animal race left we haven’t seen yet, and we know which animals did and did not have the other three. Plus, in the flashback, the hand that takes it appears to having webbing.
^ fair enough.
And also it could have been an amphibian or other fish like species, I suppose.
Although I like the idea of it could be the sharks… as we could see Tigersharks more in the mix.
