This one clearly has the sword, shield and light ring and looks to have the light up eyes. Could someone shed some light on this?
You got me on this. At first I thought you were just looney but yeah, if you look at the eyes, they look just like the âlight upâ eyes on the regular Lion-O figure. You should try e-mailing the seller for a close up pic or just an explanation.
Itâs quite possible Rainbow Toys in the UK released a Lion-O with light up eyes with the Thunderwings, along with accessories.
That is actually the first Thunderwings Lion-O Iâve ever seen on a Rainbow Toys card⌠a very interesting and rare item indeed⌠wish I had a spare 6 grand!
It is probably a differentiation of the original making it even more unique. Generally, Thundercats and especially Lion-o each time he was produced whether from Ljn,rainbows,rainbows Logo 2(i am referring to the main and most acclaimed brands) or from series 1, 2 and 3 appeared to have,except the common variation we are all familiar with like hair and accessories colour or neck position some small and slight alterations bestowing a singular quality,as if each figure was hand painted differently. I think at the AFA grading this is what they inspect chiefly when subgrading the Figure alone. For instance the UK Lion-o version has rounded eyesocket and eyes bulging out, also the eyebrows are more circular and bend. Personally, i donât like so much the Rainbow Lion-o because his face seems a little dull,especially the imprecision of conveying the intensity of the feline sparkling eyes which are a main attribute of the Thundercats characters with many close up captions in the episodes,the LJN Lion-o is by far better in shaping the dynamic stare of Lion-o . However the Rainbow logo 2 Lion-o,the maroon one, resembles in face modelling much to the LJN counterpart but seems to be very radiant in colour, lighted all over his body,face,legs,arms but for his brown-skined chest which stands out in the first glance. Another minor detail but enough to seperate one fig from another is the paint appliance on mouth and lips on some Lion-o figures. The ceramic white,the powder-resembling substance!, outlining Lion-oâs eyes as well as covering around his mouth and lips in some figures it is applied to such a large part making him look as if totally tight-lipped or with no lips at all.Furthermore, the whole colour spread and appearence of some Lion-os lies short of harmony and eyeappeal. Like the boots are not so deep blue,the red hair are pallid,the open-blue dye of his armor and the dark-orange symbol of thundera at his bely are overshadowed by the orange chest and arms,the joints of his arms are so loose like they are ready to fall. It is absolutely reasonable to expect a few defects at the figures because at that time the toyline companies didnât have manufacturing tools and methods to construct in broad numbers figures devoid of flaws and blemishes, and most of them bear these traits blatantly. But every now and then you may stumble upon some very few extraordinary Lion-o figures with perfect balance and analogy,this apparently happened by chance during production,which impeccably single them out from the lot. These minor details along with the well-known variations justify the collectivity and rarity of each individual Thundercats figure that nowdays can yield crazy profits. Of course it hepls the packaging where the figure on MOC is at full display. I donât believe they knew before hand the huge and lasting success it will have 20 years later,it was just a lucky coincidence of visionary ideas put together and coming in fruition.
This Thunderwings Lion-o is something like that, but i really donât think,with all due respect, that a Thundercats toy or any other figure ever made deserves that amount even if graded and it is the reason they wonât sell in the long run in my opinion.A price of $1.700 usd maximum for once in a lifetime purchase always referring to top graded Thundercats not simply excellent MOCs it stands somehow,being very skeptical, to reason because i understand and consider the graded figures as a way for the collector to pay homage to his beloved character and cartoon but there ought to be a limit,definitely.
