Hello there my esteemed Thunderfans. Been a longtime fan of the series who actually watched Tcats back when it originally aired on broadcast tv in the eighties. For a nine year old who had just come home from a long day at school it was some classic mindless entertainment.
The thing that I always loved most about the show was the beautiful animation style which was way back before the rise of anime in the US. I also very much dug how the series would blend science fiction and fantasy elements together so seamlessly. It really had a throw everything to the wall and see what sticks mentality when it came to writing.
As you can probably judge by my avatar my favorite character from the show was Mumm-ra the Everliving who was so brilliantly portrayed by the late, great Earl Hammond. The man would scream and rant his head off every episode while spouting nonsense incantations about transformations but somehow made it all seem authentic and believable! Definitely one of my favorite voice overs ever.
Anyway I am really very excited to see Tcats back where it belongs on TV and in prime time no less. While I think most of us here have nostalgic feelings for the old show we grew up with the future looks promising for fans of Mumm-ra (and Thundercats too!)
hey there welcome to tcl im one of the big 80s toons fans and i agree that mummra was defenitly like no other in that series one of the top evil villians ever in my eyes
The thing I always thought was cool about Mumm-Ra - and it seems to be just me here - is that he bore an uncanny resemblance to Eddie; the corpse/zombie thing that graces just about all the album covers of the Heavy Metal band, Iron Maiden. Just google some images. Personally I think it’s hard to ignore. Plus it doesn’t hurt that Maiden is an awesome band IMO, so something like that just makes him a little bit cooler.
Damn you’ve hit the nail on the head there friend. Being an also longtime Iron Maiden fan you are correct that there is a unmistakable resemblance to Eddie in Mumm-ra.
Until of course when he transforms and gets his steroid injections. :liono
