Just watched Queen Of Eight Legs now as well as the feature about the making of the cartoon (which I thoroughly enjoyed!)

I’ve also gone through all the episodes and can confirm that all 32 episodes have their title cards intact!

and from first inspection of the episodes, they are excellent quality, perhaps slightly better than the episodes on S1V1.

I’m not too thrilled with the covers though on this set as the art looks a bit amateur to me. The character art on the first volume was much better.

I’ll probably watch some more of the set later tonight..

I’m a bit miffed that Lion-O’s Annointment is spread over the set rather than in one continuous run.

Queen Of 8 Legs/lion-o’s Anointment

I have all 130 episodes. “Queen of 8 Legs” is not one of my favorites. The character of Spidera isn’t scary because her face looks way too human. The Cats can’t overpower Spidera, even with the Tank, until Lion-O calls with the Sword, something else I didn’t care for. And that extreme worm’s eye view of Lion-O’s crotch just before he takes off after the captured Snarf is nearly obscene!:shocked:

Like EternalKnights, I too was annoyed that the 5 episodes of the anointment story weren’t placed back to back. It’s very hard to believe that the Cats would take the Sword and the Claw Shield away from Lion-O for one a day out of the week; in the “Trial of Strength” story, Tygra clearly states, “If all goes well, by the end of this week we’ll have a newly anointed Lord of the ThunderCats.” Therefore, no matter in what order the episodes were originally aired, the anointment trials ran for five days straight, not once a week.:thumbsdown:

I did try to tell Warner about putting the Annoinment Trials back to back for continuity, but I guess it was just easier for them to put them in production order… shrugs

Although I have to confess I haven’t got this latest UK set yet (I plan to pick it up when I’m next able to get to an HMV store, as I have an unwanted gift birthday present that I want to part-exchange for a set), I suspect that why Warner have kept the running order the same as the US sets is because in this way they’re able to use the packaging from that set rather than have to modify it to show a different running order for the episodes. :slight_smile: I definitely agree though that, whilst it is correct for the airdate order (and the production order for the episodes also shows the Anointment Trials out-of-sequence), it is a very stupid and frustrating thing that they aren’t all together on one disc! :frowning:

Mine arrived prety much the day the were released and I am loving the quality of episodes. Some of them I have not seen like this before (as I must have missed them when I was young).. They blow away the Cartoon network recording versions :).. As mentioned in this thread, the individual covers are not as amazing as they could have been and the distribution of the trials over the disks is not ideal. But I am not complaining one bit.. The quality is what I care about.

OK, I finally managed to get my set today, which I’m delighted about! :slight_smile: One of the most significant things about this release is that, unlike the UK release of Season 1 Volume 1 which in terms of the interior artwork was more or less a straight reproduction of the US version, for this release in artwork terms there are differences between the UK and US versions! :slight_smile:

One difference we’ve talked about already is the front of the box the discs come packaged in - on the US set we have Lion-O artwork, on the UK set we have the Eye of Thundera logo coloured blue, in what is basically a recoloured version of the UK S1V1 set. The other difference already talked about is that on the spine of the US S1V2 box we get another image of Lion-O, whereas on the UK version we get an image of Tygra! :slight_smile:

However, there are more differences! One of those is with disc numbering - whereas with the US season 1 set the disc numbering from the previous set would carry over (so, the first two discs of the US S1V2 release were “Discs 7 & 8”), here in the UK they start the numbering over again - so, the first two discs of the UK S1V2 are numbered “Discs 1 & 2”! :slight_smile:

The other big, big difference is that the US set features artwork of the Mutants which is absent from the UK version!! I was shocked to see such a big change to the UK artwork - here are some comparison pics:

Even though the changes are quite minor, this is nonetheless exciting stuff to me - hope you guys enjoy these comparison pics! There are, of course, two more sets of these, featuring Tygra and Cheetara, but I decided not to clog up this thread with them all - if anyone would like to see these others, I will, of course, be happy to oblige! :slight_smile:

Something I have noticed is that the print quality of the images on the UK set are much sharper in terms of the colours, definition, etc. - however, I still think it’s a shame that they left the Mutants off the UK artwork! :frowning:

Just a quick comment about The DVD set.. I LOVE the special featurette with the original voice actors. Watching these guys all of a sudden burst into character is amazing!! Really worth checking out!!

Yeah, IMO that featurette is the very best one of the ThunderCats DVD sets that were released in the US - if I could’ve had one thing, I wish it had been longer! But, nonetheless it is amazing, I love it! :slight_smile:

Oh, you bet about the voice actors, Kyle. Seeing Lynne Lipton, Peter Newman, and Larry Kenney go into character at the drop of a hat is really something. I’ve long felt that voice actors are the most underrated and most unappreciated people in show business, so it’s wonderful to see them profiled like this. They more than deserve it. :smiley:

I have the American DVD packages, so I have the covers with both the Cats and the Mutants on them. The only thing I don’t like about the renderings of the Cats is that they have fangs. It makes them look vampiric. :frowning:
