ThunderCats soundtrack petition (plus good news for this site!) :)

Hi gang,

This is just a quickie - I’ve had a PM from forum member Sonia Lai (slai), the lady who is running the petition for WB to release the ThunderCats soundtrack. She asked me whether it would be possible for me to give her petition a plug both in the form of sticky-ing her thread on the Cartoon Forum and also giving it a mention on the front page of this site. I’ve told her that I don’t have the authority to do these things off my own bat as these aren’t items of TCL-site-related news, but that I’ll ask you guys what you think - and so here I am! :slight_smile:

For myself I think stickying the thread is no problem whatsoever - for the front page thing, I’m open to opinions. On the one hand I think it would look good for us to do something “community minded” like that, particularly given that I for one would love to see the TCats soundtrack released! :smiley: On the flipside, I don’t really want to see us start using the front page of this site to promote every fan initiative that crops up… :slight_smile:

The biggest thing that would influence me to say yes to her request is that I (we) actually owe her a big favour, and this is actually exciting news that I have to share! Sonia is in touch with Bernard Hoffer, the guy who composed the complete music score for ThunderCats - I asked her if she could put me in touch with him, she contacted him to ask if it was cool to give me his e-mail address, and he agreed - so, there should be an interview with Bernard Hoffer hosted on this site very soon!! :smiley:

So, my own recommendation would be that we help her out by giving this a plug on the front page, maybe as a footnote as part of a different update - I think ultimately everyone would benefit from it. However, I will always defer to the judgement of MannyF as Site Leader, and welcome the opinions of all the team - please can you guys LMK what you think? Many thanks! :slight_smile:

I’d do a sticky, and even a front page announcement. Hwoever any more petitions to be placed via the front page would have to be looked at carefully. I dont mind myself but if we see an influx of petitions and requests then we will need to put a stop to it

I agree with a lot of what you say, MannyC - the biggest thing I’d say (and something I’m only able to get away with now that Angie’s not able to read these comments) is that several other TCats sites on the Internet actually promote other site’s intiatives such as this soundtrack petition, Angie’s site being one of the most prominant of these. To an extent, if we say “Nope, we will only ever use TCL’s front page for TCL-related updates + general ThunderCats news”, we actually look like the bad guys, not because that’s unreasonable but because other sites will give these folks the exposure they want… :frowning:

For myself, a good way to play this I think would be to wait a short while until the Larry Kenney petition is a couple of weeks old and then post a “status update” about it on the front page, pushing it back to the top of people’s awareness, and then as a footnote say that we’ve also been made aware of another petition which we thought might be of interest to fans of the cartoon, that being one asking WB to release the TCats soundtrack. In that way, the non-TCL petition has had a plug, returning Sonia’s favour to me, but it also hasn’t received its own front page update, instead it’s been tied-in with TCL news. What do you guys think of this as a kind-of compromise idea? :slight_smile:
