Hey all I do art for a living and really am a big nerdy fan of the Thundercats. I wanted to do some fan art that would possibly represent what a Tcat film character could look like. I loved the cartoons growing up. I think for a 21st century film the costumes and proportions could be shaped for todays movie audience expectations, but also keep the main designs intact like the Tcat symbol, Lion-O’s glove and the sword of omens etc.
I also feel grounding them within a solid art direction that has a cultural art aesthetics say more “Aztec Egyptian” etc would be great to define details for there costumes, armor, tech and weapons.
I know WB is working on a film now and I wish them the best I hope they seek out the best talented visionaries to make this happen.
Please enjoy these as I do art for a living but rarely do any for myself. Feel free to download these and send them to friends etc if you like as long as you give proper credit to me JP.Targete and onlly use for personal purposes etc.
This is just eye-popping mindblowing work here JP. Would you share with us a bit about how you rendered this? It looks like it was all done on a computer?

I am so enthralled with the details you’ve re-imagined into these three characters that I’m finding it hard to comment on any in particular that I love most but I’m putting these all on my desktop so that I can enjoy them for hours.
Are you working on any of the other characters? I’d LOVE to see what you do with the Cats Lair.
I gotta agree with Grizzlor - your work is nothing short of incredible. Your line work, detail, shading and imagination are humbling, to put it mildly. I’m a fan of all 3 pieces, but the Mumm-ra is my favorite. You’ve somehow managed to keep his look traditional and at the same time, splice him with a Blade-esque vampire & a demon. I’d love to see more of your work.

As far as my technique, I usually draw in pencil first scan it and then use photoshop to paint the colors, however lately I’ve been skipping the drawing stage and going straight into colors, the Panthro was straight into colors and has a more looser fluid paint job then the other two, its always a trade off for detail over fluidness and visa versa.
Oh yes I’d love to do a take on the Cats Lair and Mumm-Ra’s Pyramid and the mutants. It’s a little difficult for me to find tie but as soon as I get some I may do more.
I really love the kind of fandom and appreciation for a cartoon we enjoyed and grew up watching. I feel to properly translate such a loved iconic cartoon to the big screen or any medium you have to study it and feel the magic of it all.

Your in great luck before I got busy with other duties I was able to do a rendition of Cheetara, however its not my 100% difinative re-imagined design but a starting point to develop it more. I wanted to go for a more slender version more built like a cheeta then a typical “bombshell” hour glass figure we are used to in the 80’s and comics.

That’s a beautiful version of Cheetara, I’ve never seen her captured like this before… there is something much more real about this version of her… like you said, its closer to the slender Cheetah of Africa, the big cat that doesn’t waste an ounce of fat on their frame. I’m from South Africa and have always had a special affinity for the wildlife of my birth country. Somehow a Cheetah always reminded me of a scavenging alley cat. The Cheetah is opportunistic and thrifty in how they invest energy. There’s a roguish quality to them that comes through on your piece.
This Cheetara is still beautiful in her human attributes. What I loved most about Cheetara in the show was always her voice. She carried of the regalness of a cat better than any of her fellow T-Cats, and most of this was due to Lynne Lipton’s performance. I can imagine her voice in this rendition of yours JP.

It’s a great honor for me and a pleasure, and thank you so kindly Mark. Yes I am a big fan of wildlife I love the discovery channel and enjoy documentaries on animals and dinosaurs etc.
I imagine Cheetaras movements being like a Cheetah of course with humanoid attributes etc very stealthy but extremely fast and graceful when on the attack something the cartoon captured very nicely at certain times.
I also enjoyed looking at artwork other artist have posted its amazing to see the different takes on the Tcat characters we all grew up watching.
I do hope the Franchise develops into either cg or live action films that celebrate and do justice to the cartoons but also brings something new and fresh to the medium of and genres of sci-fi and fantasy films. Creativity is boundless if you let it flow 110%, if the industry focused less on profit and more on art the money side of things will take care of itself because for the most part decent art sells.
Mumm-Ra THE EVERLIVING :mummra: - you really made a very impressive drawing of him! The other pictures are of course great too but as Mumm-Ra IS simply the best Charakter of the ThunderCats series - his picture is my favourite one!
Btw. - talking about great ThunderCat Characters - did you also drew Slite? Yesss? :slythe:

friendly spirit in helping promote thundercats, i managed to make 2 clips.
1 is a tribute to “Mummraaaaaaa” in my fav Heroes and Villains clip,
& the other is a part emotional, part music remix using parts of the thundercats theme tune (also including
some of “he who summons ancient spirits of evil”
