I don’t see any threads on this So I thought I’d make one. 
One of the main things that I have always loved about The Original Thundercats was the music. Even today, you can play a tune from the show and immediately recognize it as Thundercats Music.
Does anyone else wonder how the music in the new show will be?
What do you think they should do? Create all new music? or (what I personally would like) update some of the old tunes with new versions?

My guess is that they’re only going to keep the original main theme tune around, for both the opening and as some music stings for BGM. For the tone of the new shore, the old scores don’t seem quite dark enough. They could update the old scores and make them darker though. I really hope that Mumm-Ra’s theme is kept intact because that would fit the new tone.
Now I don’t think they should keep ALL the music. But some are just iconic to the show.
At the very least the end theme. That bit of music was so cool that I ALWAYS stayed til the end of the credits to listen.

I would really like it if all the character themes were kept.
Ever since I got my hands on the soundtrack, I can’t stop listening to it.
Soundtrack!? I must get my hands on one! As for the music in the new tune, if they aren’t going to keep the old one I at least hope they keep the lyrics and maybe just update the instrumental parts. In my opinion most if not all of the cartoons today lack the awesomeness that the cartoon intros of the 80s had, especially lyrically.
I remember the original music being sort of hit-and-miss. There were some cool ones (Mumm-Ra’s theme, Panthro’s theme and Cheetara’s theme), but some others fell flat. I felt there was too much of an overreliance on horns and wind instruments when I thought strings might have worked better. (Maybe horns were all they had, or that Bernard Hoffer just really liked them?)
Personally now having seen the trailer, I’d like to have them give it a score similar to what Bear McReary did for Battlestar Galactica. I think that might work better. But it would still be nice to somehow work-in little references to the original score.
I actually havent seen Battlestar Galactica yet. (sacrilege I know lol) so I don’t know what kind of music it has.
But I agree that some of the songs probably should be left in the dust (Tygra’s theme for example), but others I would like updated or at least alluded to.
It has kind of a “World”-influenced sound; a lot of ethnic instruments with some emphasis on percussion. Considering the grand approach they’re going for, plus the variety of environments and civilizations found on Third Earth, this might work well.
I guess the best example of BSG’s music would be in its opening theme, which I can link to. And you can find other examples on the links from there.
To me, it wasnt just the cartoon, but the music that made Thundercats..
To not have similar music for each character or even the theme we all love would be extremely disappointing…
The new 2011 trailers music shouts out and has the tint of Thundercat music to me. So lets hope theres more of that!!!

I’m sure my massive fandom of Tygra has absolutely nothing to do with my opinion :p, but no seriously…I have it as my msg tone on my mobile forever, and there have been multiple remixes of it online etc!
Cheetara was nect best IMO then Panthro’s (out of main Tcats anyway).
Are you kidding me? (Ok, I know you are not lol). Tygra’s theme, along with Cheetara’s, was the best of the old series. It was kinda Hindu with a note of mysticism to it. It was a really good one, but they rarely gave him enough camera time in the action scenes to play it completely (it was usually cut up, but the long version was great).

If they’re going to start at the top and work their way down, from reading on here and other forums Panthro seems to be the most brought up example of people’s favorite theme.
I have to agree. Ultimately what you looked forward to in a show like Thundercats, was fighting, and them kicking the Mutant’s behind back to Castle Plun-Darr, or Mumm-Ra back to his pyramid. No other character’s theme embodied a sense of “Uh oh, somebody’s gonna get their @** kicked!!” like Panthro’s.
His is an absolute must. The only other two that I hold dear are the Thundertank, Jaga’s, and Mumm-Ra’s (mummy form, or maybe better suited to be labeled the Pyramid theme? Since that’s where in the show the one I’m referring to is mostly if not exclusively found).
Although I was pondering this today, even though I really liked Mumm-Ra’s music (quite gongy sounding) I wouldn’t be opposed to something totally different but still just as eerie. Quite a challenging feat though as I’m a tough critic when it comes to Thundercats, and not easy to please.
I always thought Jaga’s music was very inspiring for some reason. If I were down or feeling unsure of myself, his theme I think would pull me out of the funk and bring back confidence. Maybe that’s a subliminal implant based on his role in the show as that seemed to be exactly when he popped up. None the less, that’s what I think of when I hear his music and I do get a rush from it. Different kind of rush than Panthro’s, but a rush none the less.
At the end of the day, if I can consistently get only Panthro’s theme and the others had to change, that would be enough for me. However having the Thundertank, Mumm-Ra (mummy), and Jaga’s worked in would be icing on the cake.

I LOVED every characters theme music especially Tygra’s noble upbeat theme. The only time I disliked the music was when they did that jazzy ( Kenney-G ) flute instrumental rendition as the camera panned on a group shot towards the end of the show.
I must say Jaga’s theme brings a lump to my throat! lol soppy I know but there u have it! Suppose it just reminds me of him sacrificing himself for them and how noble and brave he was.
On a side note I would LOVE to have a show/movie/story of the ‘chronicals of Jaga the Wise’, in depth stories about him fghting in the 1st mutant war and him growing up etc…

Wow! That’s excellent news and a fantastic nod to the original 80’s series. For everything I’m not thrilled about with the new cartoon, there seems to be some postive news to balance things up!
I can’t wait to see just how they incorporate the classic theme!! :eek:

I had suggested this idea some time ago here in the Forum and the way i see it, the music will pay homage to the legacy of Thundercats!!
Besides it is so unique and contemporary as well that will fit perfectly for the 2011 Series.
