This isn’t news, we reported as much here in these forums months ago. Sad though… its a real shame because we had high hopes for the movie
Ah, sorry about that. I tried to do a quick scan to see if this had been reported or not - my bad. It was just linked today on ComicBookResources.com, so I thought it was new.
Agreed - not sure why they are backing out on this project. Seems with the success of the other 80’s franchise films this would be a no-brainer. Perhaps in time…
I know this won’t be a popular opinion, maybe not even factually based, but I suspect they released the early images of the movie to see how fans would react. And since we all picked and complained they shut the movie down.
Course I can say this cause I liked the art they released.

If our “complaining” and “picking” are the only reasons why the movie didn’t fly, well then, WB must finally have its ears on, listening to the little, old fans.
We should vocalize our opinions, AE. It’s our hard-earned coin, we decide on what we spend it on, and I wish people would remember their power in that truth. It would be no less than amazing on what taking back the responsibility would do for the quality of things out there. I believe it’s not too much to ask for whatever any one or any company is offering us to buy to be of at least excellent if not superior quality for our money.
If any “blame” is to be had for the movie not happening, it should fall on WB, not the fandom. All WB cares about is its bottom line. It has the say in not to take the risk of a flop, fine (which, really, is possible for any movie, even tried and trues).
Really, though, on the blame thing…let it go. The movie isn’t happening, that’s that…for now.

I wonder if this is because WB may still be in litigation with Rankin-Bass? Or maybe R&B won and WB doesn’t want to fork over more $$$ to them. Either way, I don’t have much sympathy for R&B after hearing how they screwed Leonard Starr. The message is from over a year ago, but here’s the liink to R&B.

Avatar had nothing to do with it. We announced that the T-Cats move was placed on hold in early August last year which means the decision was made in July last year sometime.
The article suggests that creating an Avatar like T-Cats movie makes sense. No duh… everybody is going to want to make Cameron style 3D movies now… lol… and I for one think that’s a great idea. If Third Earth was rendered in Avatar quality realness I think I’d goo my pants.
Well, so much for the movie, I guess.
But look at it this way, everybody. Better to have no ThunderCats movie than a ThunderCats movie that’s a total disaster. And even if there’s no film, there’s always fan-fiction to read and enjoy. And, from what I’ve seen of some of it, I’d wager that a good fan-fic writer can do a better job of writing a ThunderCats story than any hack writer that Warner Brothers could hire.
