You can now add me to the list of fans who have heard EternalKnights’s version of Bernie Hoffer’s ThunderCats music. It’s impressive! How interesting that E.K. weaves the various themes together so the entire arrangement sounds like the overture of a movie score. While it was playing, I had pictures popping into in my head of various ThunderCats scenes in an attempt to illustrate E.K.'s composition and the setting seems to be tilting toward New Thundera. Goes to show how music gets my own artistic impulses going! :cheetaraveryhappy:

Just to warn folks there is a hint of bad language in that article, so don’t read if you are offended by that sort of thing - but, that is an amazing, compelling and just generally fantastic article and an excellent argument for a ThunderCats movie!
This bit was the most revealing, and the first I’ve heard of this:
In early June of this year, Variety reported that Warner Bros. studios is currently working on a live-action CGI movie based on the popular 80’s cartoon television series Thundercats in conjunction with producer Paula Weinstein (who most recently produced The Astronaut Farmer and Blood Diamond), action animators Dick Robertson and Lew Korman, and writer Paul Sopocy.
Now, I may be wrong, but this is the first time I’ve actually heard names affixed to this project - can anyone shed any more light on this?

Just got through reading the article, Chris. There’s so little bad language in it that it’s nothing to worry about. Now, if you want a truckload of profanity, read the comments following the article. Those people turn the air blue!:yikes:
“5 Reasons Why a ‘ThunderCats’ Movie is a Must” doesn’t say anything we don’t already know. The writer, Paige MacGregor, is merely tossing out actors’ names as what-ifs, so that’s nothing to be concerned with, either. I’d rather have an official announcement from Warner Brothers as to who’ll be doing the voice-overs.:bengali:

Neil’s quite right - I should have read that file all the way down, and when I saw those comments removed those links, as we like to try and keep the external links posted up as clean as possible - whoops, my mistake! :oops:
However, what I’m going to do is post up a copy-and-paste the text of the actual article itself, so that folks here can still read it - even though it is, as has been stated, just a speculative article it is nonetheless very interesting to read!
In early June of this year, Variety reported that Warner Bros. studios is currently working on a live-action CGI movie based on the popular 80’s cartoon television series Thundercats in conjunction with producer Paula Weinstein (who most recently produced The Astronaut Farmer and Blood Diamond), action animators Dick Robertson and Lew Korman, and writer Paul Sopocy. Thundercats fans know, however, that this is not the first time a major motion picture studio has dangled the promise of a Thundercats movie in front of adoring fans—originally the live-action version of this popular cartoon was set for release in 1998, nearly a decade ago, a date that was repeatedly put off before the project was scrapped altogether.
But in this new age of films born of the cartoons and comic books of old, what would be more perfect than a CGI-rich action film about a group of humanoid cats from the planet Thundera (come on… just picture a bewhiskered Kate Beckinsale in yet another skintight bodysuit and wielding a battlestaff… exactly)? So, here are the top five reasons (there would be ten, but then this article would just be way, way too long) why following-through, finally, with the production and release of a Thundercats movie is a MUST:
1. There is no way, under any circumstances, that the Thundercats movie could possibly be worse than X2 or X-Men: The Last Stand.
It would take a considerable deal of effort to surpass the combination of horrid acting, poor casting, lack of chemistry and deviation from the comic book stories that attempted to masquerade as the final two chapters in the X-Men saga that began with director Bryan Singer’s groundbreaking X-Men (2000)… And with the potential earning power of a Thundercats movie on the line, I just don’t think Warner Bros. has it in them to screw this movie up to that degree (and I know I’m going to get flack for saying this, but at least they didn’t put it in the hands of Michael Bay).
2. We have the CGI technology to pull this off. It’s really as simple as that.
Realistically turning Kate Beckinsale into Cheetarah, or even making Jake Gyllenhaal into the orange and white, emotionally conflicted leader of the Thundercats, Lion-O, is far from difficult. Just look at movies like 300 and Transformers if you want to see what Hollywood’s CGI capabilities look like now, and then tell me that we can’t make a few people look like giant furry, medieval-weapons-weilding cats? While it may very well have been the technology that stalled and ultimately prevented the release of a Thundercats movie back in the late 1990s, that certainly shouldn’t be a problem today.
3. Timing.
With a tentative release date of 2010, Thundercats will ride the coattails of the great comic-book- and 80s-cartoon-inspired movie wave, following in the footsteps of current releases like Transformers, as well as movies like Iron Man, The Incredible Hulk, Sin City 2, Hellboy 2: The Golden Army, and The Dark Knight, all set for released in 2008, as well as Spider-Man 4, Superman: Man of Steel and He-Man: Masters of the Universe, which are slated for release in 2009.
Appearing in theaters in 2010, the Thundercats movie will be able not only to capitalize on its preexisting adult fan base, the result of the cartoon’s popularity with children of the 1980s, but will be able to do so without coming too close on the heels of other cinematic adaptations of comic books and cartoons while simultaneously benefiting from this preexisting trend.
4. The choice is no longer in Warner Bros.’ hands.
Since I have taken it upon myself to cast all of the important characters, the studio now has no choice but to go ahead and produce the film. As I already mentioned, Kate Beckinsale as Cheetarah and Jake Gyllenhaal as Lion-O, and then Vinnie Jones (Gone in 60 Seconds, X-Men: The Last Stand) as Panthro, Freddie Rodriguez (Grindhouse) as Tygra, and as for the twins, Wiley-Kit and Wiley-Kat, the boy who plays Leonidas’ son in 300 and another unknown child actor as his female counterpart. As for Mummra, the disturbing but nevertheless necessary villain, Ed Harris would have to step in as both the old, wrinkled and bandaged mummified version and the crazy, bat-like, ultra-jacked version. And now that I’ve cast virtually every important character in the movie, Warner Bros. really has no reason not to finish this movie by the 2010 deadline. Hell, I’ll even give them until 2011, if it helps… and I’m not a patient person.
5. A Thundercats movie would ****ing rock. Period.
This reason is pretty self explanatory, and after everything else I’ve already said it may seem a bit redundant, but honestly I think that it’s virtually impossible to overstress the degree to which this movie just needs to be made. Who wouldn’t love to watch giant humanoid cats running around with medieval weapons (can you say swords, nun chucks, maces… and if that isn’t enough, a sick Land Rover-esque vehicle that can tear through just about anything) and kicking the ass of an ancient crazy mummy bent on their destruction?

Yeah, that’s what we try and go for, like I say that was an oversight on my part leaving the link active when I saw the bad language listed below - I have to say, after many years of surfing the Internet and also receiving more spam e-mail than you can shake a stick at (literally 100+ e-mails a day) I’m kind-of de-sensitised to the seedier side of the Internet so half the time I will just see profanity or provocative content and just kind-of block it out without even noticing it properly. Basically for moderating over here I need to re-train my brain (such as it is)!!
Anyway, hopefully now folks will still be able to enjoy the article - despite the one use of the f-word, it is actually a very positive and entertaining article!

Hi, Chris. It’s good that you keep the four-letter words off this site, as we do not need them. Your reply to my post makes me wonder if you have any members here who are younger than 20 years of age. Most of the membership seems to be anywhere from 20 to 35.

To be honest, although I’d be lying if I said I’d studied members’ profiles in any great detail, I’d be surprised if there was anybody here younger than about 20, I suspect most of our members would be around my sort of age (25). However, if a new ThunderCats movie or cartoon series comes into being, chances are that this site (and indeed, all ThunderCats sites everywhere) would be likely to get traffic from a much younger audience, which is why we lean in the direction we do with regard to profanity, etc. Then again, when you revealed your age to me I was (pleasantly) surprised, so who knows, we may have a couple of Thunderkittens posting here that we don’t even realise we have!

I agree with that last statement, Chris, and it describes the one big downside of the Internet. You can have people pretending to be someone and/or something they’re not, so it’s a wise thing to keep the no-profanity rule in business. It would save TCL a lot of future embarrassment, and worse.:bengali:

[I]Warner Bros. has tapped its top Thundercat.Vidgame vet Jerry O’Flaherty will helm the studio’s CG-animated “Thundercats” feature, based on the popular '80s cartoon series, comicbook and toy line.
The project marks the first feature directing gig for O’Flaherty, who served as an art director on such bestselling games as “Gears of War” and “Unreal Tournament 3” for Epic Games and the “Command and Conquer” series from Westwood Studios.
O’Flaherty had been looking to make the leap into movies and was considering several projects, even live action.
But the “Thundercats” story appealed to him, as well as the fact that vidgames are increasingly incorporating lavish animated sequences that mimic pics, making a toon a much easier transition.
“It feels like a natural thing for me to step into,” he said. “Games have come so far now. The last four years of my life have been about bringing the energy of filmmaking into the videogame experience.”
O’Flaherty will now work with scribe Paul Sopocy on the script.
Warner-based Paula Weinstein will produce through her Spring Creek Prods. banner, along with Dick Robertson and Lew Korman.
WB optioned a “Thundercats” script from Sopocy this summer ([/I] [I]Daily Variety, June 5). The origin story expands on the major heroes and villains from the animated series, with the plot focusing on Lion-O coming of age as the leader of the Thundercats.
The property revolves around a group of humanoid cats who must flee the planet of Thundera, which is destroyed. Once crash-landing on another planet, Third Earth, they must thwart Mumm-Ra, an evil sorcerer bent on killing them off.
O’Flaherty plans to remain faithful to the “Thundercats” franchise, which began in 1983 and spawned several animated series, the most recent of which aired on Cartoon Network; a toy line produced by LJN; and comicbooks published by Marvel and DC imprints. Warner Bros. has owned the rights to the animated series since acquiring Telepictures in 1989.[/I]
Excellent news! It’s looks like things are going apace as far as the T-Cat film is concerned. Now, if they really want to remain faithful to the cartoon series, they should get Larry Kenney, Lynne Lipton, Peter Newman, Earle Hyman, Doug Preis, and Gerianne Raphael. I’m stretching my neck out here by telling you this: I did dream one night, some weeks ago, that Larry was the only one of the original cast who the film makers hired while everybody else were Hollywood actors. But we’ll see who they get.:bengali:
The thing is the movie may be part CGI however if its full CGI then Larry should get the part. You really cant cast Larry if its a partial CGI movie
