I always thought that the Thundercats would make realy cool martial artists, maybe if there was a ‘thunderean’ style of fighting and what not. With them being part feline they would be so fast..
I’m sure Panthro had to be some kind of a “Sensei” back in Thundera, I always saw him as the “kung-fu Thundercat”.
He even had nunchakus!

If my memory serves me correctly, I believe the UK comics gave Panthro’s martial art as being “Kottr Kwan-Do” - not knowing too much about martial arts I don’t know if this is a real or fictional fighting style, but there’s no listing for it on Wikipedia…!

Apologies for necro, but can’t resist the question.
If I was to hazard a guess, looked like the style they gave to Panthro was heavily influenced by the ninjitsu craze (hence tabi style boots) which was going around in the early 80s, along with the usual high kicks you’d get in the majority of martial arts movies seen in the US, and finally the nunchucks, probably due to the exposure from Bruce Lee (esp Way of the Dragon, or Return of the Dragon in the US).
Panthro’s fighting skills were definitely influenced by that particular martial-arts craze that was going on in the USA; in fact, I recall a 1981 news report on gangs using nunchucks in street fights. :shocked: But I have to agree with salty in that a live-action, martial-arts ThunderCats movie just ain’t gonna happen!

If we could timewarp the film back to 1980s Hong Kong and get Sammo Hung to direct, I’d be all for it. Even getting him to direct now wouldn’t be too bad: Sha Po Lang had some decent action sequences a couple of years ago. 8)

It’s from the UK ThunderCats comics’ continuity - basically it’s like a winter festival, created by the writers on the comic to come up with a Third Earth version of Christmas that the characters could plausibly celebrate given that Third Earth was/is a different planet (or at least a post-apocalyptic version of ours several thousand years in the future)…
If I remember correctly, the festival was referenced twice - in #41 (published 26th December 1987 - so, on Boxing Day!) and also in the 1990 ThunderCats Annual, which, bizarrely, in the longstanding tradition of UK hardcover annuals, was actually published in 1989! The latter story featured the UK comic continuity’s debut of the Tower of Omens, which I never found out actually featured in the cartoon show as well until nearly 10 years later!

To that, I have to hold my hand up and confess I have no idea! I guess the name is somehow derived from the festival of Whitsuntide - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Whitsuntide - but I have no clue if there’s any meaning to the “Rammas” part of it!

The Thundarian martial arts in the movie should incorporate some serious parkour action, which fits perfectly with the sort of cat-like agility that our heroes are likely to have.
There’s no specific name called with their martial arts but we can see combination of stunts from different fighting techniques.If this hope will be granted,many fans will be happy for sure.
