Thundercats items by Unitoys (Venezuela)

Better later than never, here’s some pics from the non-minifigures items made by Unitoys in Venezuela. The molds from the figures are the same Playfull molds, you can check that on the feet copyright. Enjoy! :panthrohappy:

I’m not an expert on prototypes, test shots, etc., but the guy who sold me the unpainted Lion-O said that it’s a test shot, but I’m not totally sure about that. It looks very cool, with the same quality and molded plastic colors from the painted one.

Wow very cool…my first impresssion of that first Lion O is that it could well be either a protottype test shot or a very good fake. But Im very inclined to say that it is a test shot…Very nice indeed, I’d definitely love to have it thats for sure. I’m going to contact one of our toy correspondents that has been in the toy business for quite some time and see what he says. He may be able to give us more insight. As far as the rest of the figures and role playing toys I totally dig em’ very cool especially Cheetara

I love the costumes. I actually am watching a complete set on Ebay right now hoping to pick them up for fairly cheap. And you already know my feelings on the figs (hoping some day to actually pick them up especially Lion-o and Cheetara)

ugh. Again im jealous. I have the colorless felino. But that felina is awesome. I have the white monkian the a colorless hiachman and a few others. Nice mini collection, cant believe you have 3 snurfs (one moc), I really like the color variants on monkian (brown) the all white vultureman, and the rattaro. If you ever want to part with some of those (or even your moc snurf or moc blue panthro) I would definately be interested.

Interesting that this toyline from Venezuela has “ThunderCats” instead of the Spanish name for the show: “Los Felinos Cosmicos”. Can you shed any light on that, matt or Figurasdeccion?

I love the Lion-O and Mumm-Ra figures. Not too sure about the Cheetara one, though, as her costume and body coloring is wrong. I don’t mind the unpainted figures because they give you a good idea of how the painting process was done (I take it that one layer of color was manually painted on top of another. Is that correct, matt?). But I don’t like the unpainted WilyKat and WilyKit miniatures; they look like chubby toddlers when compared to the regular-sized figures of Kat and Kit.

I like the ThunderCat shield. But what’s the red belt item? Is that a Lion-O buckle, or is the whole item a mask of some kind? And who’s the orange character with the fangs and the red mask?:?

The whole collection is quite interesting to look at. Thank you for sharing it, Figurasdeccion.

The only 2 countries that I have ever seen that have changed the name from the english to what ever is appropriate are France and Korea. France actually printed cards that said Cosmocats, and then had stickers saying Cosmocats placed over Thundercats. I think the sticker was towards the end of the line and they just recycled what was left over from the US and Europe to save on production costs. The korean ones are minis and have korean characters as a sticker put over thundercats

The belt you are referring to is a “lion o” mask. If I am thinking of the same item you are.

The Felino and Felina are the only mini figs that dont resemble the actual characters. You are right that they are clunky. the paint jobs on them are awful (snurf is bad too, but not as bad). The unpainted figs figurasdecision and myself are under the idea that they were also released at the end of the line to save on production costs. I used to think that they were bootlegs but he has an all blue Panthro moc. As far as the painting process, its not really something I know. Your idea makes sense, and it certainly looks like (from the felino and felina standpoint) that they were painted a layer at a time since they look awful.

Im not sure who you mean by the guy with the fangs. If it is who I think it is he’s a knock off with a sparkle warrior head and motu style body. New variations of knock off motu figs pop up all the time.

Thank you, matt. If you look at the group picture of the toys (it’s the last one posted), you’ll see the orange character with the fangs and the red mask in the top middle of the photo, right behind the Slithe figure. That’s the one I was asking about. Maybe Figurasdeccion can tell us who the character is.

Yeah, I saw the two Snarf figures and you’re right about the paint job being lousy on them. It also seems to be poorly done on the Tygra figures as well. Were the LJN figures originally made here in the USA? Granted, the paint job on them isn’t perfect, but it’s far superior to the Venezuelan work. I remember the Korean versions whose pictures you had posted. Even they look top-notch when compared to the Venezuelan ones.

In the spanish dub from the cartoon, “Los Felinos Cósmicos” (the cosmic cats) was more like a subtitle, the intro said something like “Thundercats, los felinos cósmicos”. In spanish, Lion-O screams “Thundercats, Ooooo”. All the venezuelan stuff I’ve seen always reads Thundercats, even the sticker album. But, in spanish, some of the mutants names were changed. On this way, Slithe was translated as “Reptilio”, Vultureman as “Buitroc”, Jackalo as “Chacalo”, etc. But I don’t know why the sticker on the mini Panthro reads “Slithe” instead of “Reptilio”. That’s weird.

On the minis, you can see the evolution on the paintig process. Figures like Lion-O, Mumm-Ra, Tuska Warrior and Slithe are pretty well painted, but in the other hand, Vultureman, Ratar-O and Monkian are awfully painted. The painting and quality control was on decrease, the last produced figures were one-color or unpainted at all. The cool thing about Felino, Felina and Snarf is that they weren’t made on the american line of minis, they were made only in Argentina and Venezuela.

The orange figure on the middle top, is a knockoff, I don’t know from wich line. The head is from a line called “The Sparkle Warrios”, the torso and arms are the same from all the Masters of the Universe knockoffs, but I don’t know where the legs come from.

The belt-like item is a Lion-O mask.

I really like the blue Cheetara, I’m always pleasured to see color variations on the figures.

Those mini’s look cool too! I don’t think any of those ever got out in stores here… We only got the regular action figure line and the Sword of Omens toy…

Heh, heh, I think the Panthro-in-a-Slithe package means somebody was in such a hurry that they just tossed the Panthro figure into the package without checking the package’s front. Or someone simply didn’t care which figure went into which package.:roll:

Let me explain you that Leppardra, the spanish name for the Thundercats is “Thundercats, los felinos cosmicos” it’s like “Thundercats, the space cats” Anyhow we know them just as Thundercats too.

Holy sh!t! This is the set and sword of Omens I have been searching for! My friend who lived in PA with me at the time had all this stuff and I distinctly remember that sword. Wow, what a find. Although it’s made in a totally different country, they must have been shipped here in English because my buddy totally had that. I’m 100% positive. Does anyone know what company made them for USA distribution?

Here’s another pic I dug up of some cool weapons. I always loved role play weapons because when I was a kid I could actually feel like the I was in the show battling it out with the good guys. I would have loved to have this Panthro nunchuck set. I still think Ghostbusters had the best role play toys around and the most usable ones too!
